Peeved over his son's refusal to pay him a princely sum of Rupees five, a man axed the 24-year old to death at Jhirpai village in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand, police said today.
According to the complaint lodged at the local police station, Madhu Gope hit his son Mangal Gope (24) with an axe on Sunday after Mangal turned down his father's plea to give him Rupees five and said he would not allow to squander the hard-earned money.
Mangal, a daily wage-earner, slumped on the ground as his mother Pusuwa rushed to her son's aid and screamed for help.
A police team later went to the spot after being informed by the woman and recovered the body of Mangal, who was to get married soon.
Madhu was finally arrested by police last night.
