- Construction worker...married with 4 children....saved in 1972
I was saved at the age of 18 in a farmers house while attempting to run from the Lord....at one point I was trying to find the Lord, but had decided to change course after becoming aware of the change I was going to have to undergo.
I thought I was saved at one point, but then began to go some meetings where they seemed to think I wasn't. They were reaching out to me and were completely absorbed in serving God.
I was getting very uncomfortable and had decided the best thing was just to very nicely say something like, '...thanks for all your help, but I don't think I will be coming any more..."
They had been picking me up for meetings almost every night for about a month or so, and I had decided that this certain night was going to be the last one.
On the way home, they had a flat tire. With no spare, they all got out to use the phone at this farmers house to call for some help. I knew they were all going to 'pile onto' this farmer and start preaching at him, so I just kind of sat on the floor hoping the farmer would not ask me any questions and listening to the conversation as we were waiting for someone to come and help.
They were telling him how he needed to serve God, and he was saying he had things to do and didn't have time to serve God.
While I was listening to this conversation, I was thinking this guy sure seems to be making a lot of excuses for himself, but then I started seeing myself in this farmer.
The Lord convicted me of my sins right there in this farmers house, and I took off my old black leather hat and got down by the coffee table and asked everyone to please pray for me, and that I needed to get saved.
They were more than happy to comply. The farmer had gone in to check on his baby, but when he came back into the living room he found everyone gathered around me and calling upon God.
I didn't know how to pray, but all heaven came down when I just said, 'Lord, I believe you...'
I got up from that coffee table and went over to the farmer and said something like, 'I didn't know what this was all about when I came in here, but it's real.'
The next day I was all over town witnessing to everyone I could find about what had happened to me the night before.
As Paul said...'Having obtained help from God...I continue unto this day witnessing to small and to great...
