People predicting the end times....

What do you think of people always trying to pinpoint exactly when God is going to come back?

I know God will come back but no one knows when... Yes there will be signs but no one will know exactly when....

I think its pointless honestly.
Funny you should ask this... I posted this just this morning on another site:

I was thinking about all these predictions, and it dawned on me that this is exactly what the word of God prophesied about:

2 Peter 3:3-4 (KJV)
Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

Each generation has their own date setters, but within my 50 years, there have been a whole lot of them! Which is leading to "Second Coming Fatigue" which leads to some asking, "Where is the promise of his coming?" fulfilling more prophesy!

To me, these are all just sign posts. Nothing happened after the 2014 Blood Moon Tetrad like the many times before, but does that negate the sign, I don't think so. Until we hear the trumpet (if you believe in a rapture) or the arrival of the Two Witnesses, we'll just have to wait patiently.

As others here have well noted - this is a fine example of how a horrible signal to noise ratio propagates....

Can you recommend a matched filter to counteract it?
I wish I could tell you I could...

My lament over the past few years is that in general - the signal to noise ratio has been extrordinarily unfavorable.... And this is within the church...

For example - how many "Men of God" predicted the economic crash in 2008 - and then also predicted the subsequent recovery of the real estate, stock, and bond markets? None that I know of...

This is nothing new, though... Read Jeremiah and Ezekiel.. Read Josephus.. Even King Josiah.. Read the accounts where there is ONE prophet of God beinging a message against 400+ false prophets bringing lies....

Sorry I can't offer any better news or advice... Just because you know the noise is overwhelming the signal - it doesn't mean you can make sense of the signal...

The honest best advice I can offer is... To quote Jesus...
"For wherever the carcass is, there the eagles will be gathered together."

I think what the matched-filter rejects would be the carcass. If so, then the matched filter is what Jim said, the Holy Spirit. It knows the name of Jesus Christ (Philippians 2:10)

Nobody knows when the end will come. It is more than likely that we (here now) will simply die some day and go home to the Lord if we believe and accept that He died for us so that we could have eternal life. For centuries various people have predicted that the end was soon and we are still here. As for the last days or end times..perhaps that means from the time of Jesus on to ????. With the Lord a day is like a thousand years. "But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day." 2 Peter 3:8 NIV

We should stay alert, however.

"Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away. But as for that day or hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on your guard and stay alert! For you do not know when the appointed time will come.…" Mark 13:31-33. Berean Study Bible

Its also worth considering that so often. - prophetic vision was not given to the people at large until LONG after the prophecy was given... I can think of a few instances where some prophecies were made in public or the contents were made public very soon after - but it appears most were not..

Many times the prophecy at the time was only given to an individual or perhaps to a select group.... Kings, rulers, etc...

The fully "public" parts of their ministries could be pretty bewildering if that's all you saw... Not knowing anything else about them - you would probably conclude the fellows were insane....

Often the communications with kings and rulers was privaleged and not released for "public consumption" until sometime later... For example - the "great scroll" of Isaiah was maintained either as a single huge scroll or 2 smaller ones by the priests... This was his entire lifetime of writings...

I know God will come back but no one knows when... Yes there will be signs but no one will know exactly when....

It is pointless to try to predict the day and time. Jesus affirms this. Only The Father knows these specifics..

But it is not pointless to prepare and to be ready. That part is clear.. Be ready because while you don't know the specifics... You do know it's coming.

For example.... In the 40 or so years between Jesus resurrection and the destruction of the temple - Christians received prophecies that they would have to leave imminently. It turns out that very few Christians got caught up in the destruction of Jerusalem because they believed and fled or were driven out prior....

Just subtract 7 years from any dates set and if the tribulation hasn't or doesn't start then they can be ignored as a false prophet but if it does start then you better start listening to them.

Abdicate, why is everything related to numbers in Hebrew?
Sorry if this is a stupid / simple question, but I see a lot of people posting information from the Hebrew text and they are always saying that a letter represents a number. Why all the numbers? Thanks for helping me understand.....

No problem. Around 200 BC, the Jews decided to use their alphabet as their numbering system. Here is the value of the letters.

So here is today, 15 Nov 2017 written in Hebrew as Heshvan 26, 5778:

כ״ו בחשון ה׳תשע״ח

כ is 20
ו is 6
"26"

בחשון is "in Heshvan"

ה׳תשע״ח is 5778

ה is 5.
ת is 400.
ש is 300.
ע is 70.
ח is 8.

5+400+300+70+8 = 5778

But you say "that doesn't sum up to 5778" and you're correct. The ׳ indicates a "thousand unit" so ה׳ means 5000 and you add the letters between the extra markings, so תשע becomes 400+300+70, and the last valued number, after the ״ is tacked on, so 770 + 8 = 778 or in all 5778.

The decision to use their letters for numbers unlocked a miracle since the written word of God was 1500 years older than this decision. When the mathematics was discovered by the letter number meanings, miracles and impossibilities presented themselves.

The decision was simply to do what the Greeks did, A=1, B=2, C=3, etc. As a result, we have wonderful amazing gems stored within the word of God just waiting to be discovered. And WHAT a discovery! Mathematics is a universal language that needs no translating. It is no less than proof the God wrote the word of God.

I hope this helps present a new and exciting part of the Hebrew Scriptures.

This also shows why "666" isn't in the word of God. God never does this in the plain text. When He wants to say, "1000," He says, "thousand." When He wants to say 778, He says, "seven hundred and seventy eight." In fact, because χξς means nothing in Greek (from Rev 13:18) they applied this letter/number in their translation. It's called Gematria. χ is 600, ξ is 60 and ς no longer exists, but it was used to represent 6. Hence they chose to translate an untranslatable word as three numbers, thereby changing the meaning. Since they chose to use numbers, it also changed the translation of the preceding words in that verse. "Count" can mean also mean "calculate, reckon or compute," and "number" can mean "multitude of people." John warned about adding to or removing from his book because he wrote what he saw. What he saw, in my opinion, was the Arabic phrase "in the name of Allah." Therefore, the verse can be understood as:

Revelation 13:18
Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding reckon the multitude of people of the beast: for it is the multitude of a man [Mohammed]; and themselves believe "in the name of Allah" [with the crossed swords of χ].

This is why no one can pin down what 666 is, but mathematically it shows up three times in Genesis 1:1. Collectively, the all the word except "and the earth" sum to 1998 (666x3) and since 666 is a triangle number, surrounds the triangle words "and the earth". Here's what it looks like:

The three sets of 666 surrounding (gold circles) "and the earth" (white circles) represents the Godhead as the Man Jesus, the Creator surrounding the earth. Here is a bit of the amazing math from Hebrew numbers.

I hope that it's not lost that the whole of the verse Genesis 1:1 is an isosceles triangle (3 equal sides), with three 666 isosceles triangles (Father, Son, Holy Breath) surrounding one isosceles triangle representing mankind. Perfection. 6 is the first perfect number in mathematics, which is defined as ( 1 + 2 + 3 + 6 ) / 2 = 6. How fitting.
