Abide in Jesus

If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered.

– John 15:6

If I were to ask you to make a list of a hundred things you need to do to please the Lord today, you could do it, couldn’t you? In fact, you probably have so many spiritual “dos” and “don’ts” cluttering up your mind that you’d hardly know where to start.

But you can relax. I’m not going to suggest you make a list of them. Instead, I’m going to help you simplify things by giving you only one: Abide in Jesus.

The one thing you’re truly responsible for is your union with Him. If you keep your union and fellowship with Him intact, everything else will be taken care of.

“But Gloria, I’m facing some big problems right now. My life’s turned upside down. I’m so rushed I don’t know whether I’m coming or going. I don’t have time to fellowship with the Lord today.”

That’s when you need to do it the most! You need to maintain your union with the Lord particularly when the storms of life come. I know that’s often not easy to do. Whether the storm is a sickness in your body or financial problems or family strife, the temptation will be to settle your attention and your mind on that problem. You won’t even want to think about anything else.

That’s what the devil planned on. That’s the reason he sent that storm in the first place. To distract you from fellowshiping with God. To draw your attention away from your union with Him.

Don’t fall into the devil’s trap. Instead, keep your thoughts and affections trained on the Lord. As you do that, the force of faith will begin to flow out of you. And that flow will repel every form of darkness. It will bring you in triumph through every storm.

Fellowship with Jesus today.

The more one abides in Jesus, the smaller the storms become.
As one abides on a daily basis, one starts foreseeing storms.
And when abiding all the time, one walks through storms fearlessly, and see its truth as nothing but a show of wind and smoke.

Thank you for posting this. I learned a lot about myself spiritually this week through all this stormy weather in Houston. I am not nearly a good christian as i thought i might be. I didnt stand up and pray as often as i should have. i was so tired and i gave into that and let the enemy of this world control my thoughts. i am so ashamed of myself spiritually right now. i know God forgives and understands, but i also see now where i need to improve and do better myself. i cannot give into all that and i need to continuously trust in God no matter what. i am learning alot about myself right now. thank you for posting.

even the hard truths about ourselves.

Hi Peter Luke,
What I have learned and will continue to learn is if the Lord shows us something about ourselves and it is "hard" to hear or accept then we are more about ourselves then about Jesus.

What I mean is, for those who have learned to fellowship much deeper with the Father and have learned to accept what He says no matter what, well it's these folks who simply say Yes Sir and repent and make the needed adjustments immediately.

This is when things change immediately as well.

It's amazing how things just work out better the more one learns to be submitted more unto God.

Blessings

All glory to God! For He desires that we grow and strive to become more like Him. To throw off all of the old nature, and hang on tight to the new one that He is trying to fabricate within us if we have eyes to see and ears to hear and a heart and mind that understands, and truly desires to be more like Him.

The first step as you have realized is seeing those things about ourselves that is not pleasing to the Lord. But once we see them.. we have to make a choice... allow ourselves to be pruned and those yucky things removed (John 15:2) or stay in disobedience and watch our lives get tougher.

It definitely is not fun going through purging and pruning, but Glory to God for His grace and mercy! If we allow it to happen when He brings it up... it turns out much better for us, than if we choose to kick against the goads and have to be brought to submission through harsh circumstances that could have been avoided if we had not hardened our hearts in the beginning. At that point many people will blame God for bringing the ugliness in our lives, when in all reality it was us being rebellious and submitting to the enemy's ways which brought about the distruction.

Good thoughts my friend! You are truly blessed!

True. Accept accept accept, acceptance is the key to serenity. As soon as we accept it, all concerns disappear. Fear turns to fearlessness.

This reminds me of a time when I decided to try and accept everything. I had to walk a mile into town to pay rent. As I started my walk I decided to thank the Lord for every thought and action along the way. The day was bright and sunny, "thank you God for the lovely outdoors of nature". Then it turned cold, "thank you God for the cool breeze". Then dark clouds darkened the place and it started to rain, "thank you God for the rain on my face to refresh my stance with nature". Then the wind picked up and blew my hat off, "thank you God for getting me to become vigorous and playful in chasing my hat". Then the wind stiffened even more so and a pieces of wet paper smacked me in the face, "thank you God for the wet paper in my face, to strengthen my resolve to accept my God my All". Then the next thing I know I am entering the main street as the clouds parted to allow the sunshine through. Through my acceptance of everything, unconditional love for the Lord, engulfed me. It must have been evident, because everybody who passed me on the footpath greeted me with a welcoming smile as if they knew me.
