James 3:13-14

James 3:13-14 King James Version (KJV)
13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.

14 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.

James 3:13-14 New Life Version (NLV)
Wisdom from Above

13 Who among you is wise and understands? Let that one show from a good life by the things he does that he is wise and gentle. 14 If you have jealousy in your heart and fight to have many things, do not be proud of it. Do not lie against the truth.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

13 We shouldn’t feel a need to brag about the wisdom we have but use it instead in our walk with the Lord. True wisdom shouldn’t bring out pride because pride is not wise. We as Christians should consider other more then we do ourselves.

14 Often times people who brag feel this miss something in their life and bragging brings them some joy that they feel they are missing. We often times can be like that but we are to be more like Christ and let the truth be seen in our lives.

If we boast it should be what God has done and, even in that, it is important to ask for wisdom in how we share as it is easy to indirectly give ourselves the credit by saying nothing like Gideon did in Judges 6-9. when someone gives us credit for what God has done. So we boast, as scripture says, "in the Lord."

When someone lacks confidence they may build themselves up (temporarily) by bragging about something they have or do or think. I think beginning each day in Praise of God and in committing all to Him helps us resist a tendency to brag. We ask for humility and we ask for wisdom in what we say and do. For what we say and do always has impact and matters to those we encounter.

Hello Sandpiper;

What you posted made me think. We should also be careful as Christians when we share about past sins that there isn't a "tone" of boasting. We are to tell the truth when we include past sins but remember to use an expression of humility in our voice and offer an uplifting praise to Christ who saved us.

God bless you.

Hi Bob,

You reminded me of how God has helped me to remember that i don't have to give all the details when sharing with someone what has gone on in my life. The point that they need to realize is that I have walked in their shoes or at least can identify with what they are going through, and that can speak louder than all of the details of our past.

God bless you and your family

So true, especially online. Thanks for what you do share because I know you pray about it. :)
