The Gospel

Hello there,

A previous thread discloses and discusses 'The gospel of the grace of God', by which you and I were saved, but there is more than one gospel in Scripture. The gospel is simply 'good news', and there has been more than one form of good news proclaimed, in God's time, and according to His purpose.

'The Everlasting Gospel'
'The Gospel of the Kingdom'
'The Gospel of God'
'The Gospel of the Grace of God'
'The Gospel of the glory of Christ'

These are worth studying, with an open Bible and a concordance.

Any thoughts?

'And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven,
having the everlasting gospel to preach
unto them that dwell on the earth,
and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,
Saying with a loud voice,

"Fear God, and give glory to Him;
for the hour of His judgment is come:
and worship Him
That made heaven, and earth, and the sea,
and the fountains of waters.'

Hello again,

* 'The Everlasting Gospel?'
This is a command to mankind simply to "Fear God" as the Creator. There is no mention of grace, or glory, or of a Redeemer. There is no call to repentance either, is there?

* Why is it called 'everlasting'?
Is it because the acknowledgement of God as Creator springs from the very beginning of time, and is a constant, being foundational, and which proclaims it's truth from the very heavens:-

'The heavens declare the glory of God;
and the firmament sheweth His handywork.
Day unto day uttereth speech,
and night unto night sheweth knowledge.
There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.
Their line is gone out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world.
In them hath He set a tabernacle for the sun,

(Psalm 19:1-2)

.See also Psalm 33:8):-
'Let all the earth fear the LORD:
let all the inhabitants of the world
stand in awe of Him.'

* The acknowledgement of this, gives the condemnation of Romans 1:18-32 great poignancy, doesn't it? and brings us to the setting of judgement in which this gospel is proclaimed (Revelation 14:6,7)

'For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen,
being understood by the things that are made,
even His eternal power and Godhead;
so that they are without excuse:'

(Rom 1:20)

Hi Chris,

If we look up the definitions of the Word kingdom we find that it refers to the Kingdom of God that had been set up since the beginning of time. When Jesus walked this earth He told them that the Kingdom was in their midst. I believe it was because He was operating in direct connection with The Father, or in other Words The Father was operating through Him because he was fully submitted to His will and never acted on His own (John 14:10).

If we think about and meditate upon the Kingdom being inside (within) of us (Luke 17:21 kjv, ylt, ampc), one can gather from all of the Scriptures pertaining to the Kingdom...that it encompasses all of the attributes of the Father (trinity). The Holy Spirit (Whom lives inside of us) is the key to His attributes being within us. If we don't accept Jesus as Lord and Savior then The Holy Spirit is not within us. And in my opinion if we don't submit our flesh to all of Jesus commands and ways of being righteous, then He is not really our Lord, and the fruits of The Spirit will not be flowing or evident in our lives. It's something that has to be done on a moment by moment basis.

As I pray and ask the Holy Spirit's guidance on all of this, I thought I would share what He gave me, how He led me.

As you have already established.... the gospel is everlasting because it started from the beginning and will also be involved in our life in heaven. It never passes away, because it's God's ways of doing things and He never changes.

Let's look first at grace. Grace is God's overwhelming desire to treat us all as if sin had never happened. The garden of eden that God created to put man in, had no curse in it. Adam and Eve enjoyed a life of no sickness, disease, poverty, calamity, etc... for the curse was never present. God provided for everything that they ever needed. They never experienced any lack. If we look at grace...God is desiring to get us back to that place. To give us what we don't deserve.

Eph 2:8 — Eph 2:9
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Romans 4:16
Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,

Now let's look at Luke 4:18-19
The Spirit of the Lord [is] upon Me, because He has anointed Me [the Anointed One, the Messiah] to preach the good news (the Gospel) to the poor; He has sent Me to announce release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to send forth as delivered those who are oppressed [who are downtrodden, bruised, crushed, and broken down by calamity], To proclaim the accepted and acceptable year of the Lord [the day when salvation and the free favors of God profusely abound]. [Isa. 61:1, 2.]
Luke 4:18‭-‬19 AMPC
http://bible.com/8/luk.4.18-19.AMPC

Do we deserve any of this? Jesus proclaims the day when the free favors of God profusely abound. And then in vs. 21 says "today, this verse has been fulfilled while you are present and hearing" ampc. Is this good news? Does this compare to heaven? In heaven we are told there is no sickness or disease or death. No curse or sorrow. No one is downtrodden, oppressed, crushed or broken down (Rev 22:3). So it resembles heaven completely. All are fully whole in spirit, soul (mind, will and emotions) and body.

Salvation by definition in the Greek (G4991) and Hebrew (H3444) is
(yeshû‛âh) BDB......salvation, deliverance
  1. welfare, prosperity
  2. deliverance
  3. salvation (by God)
  4. victory
  5. Strong's Definition: Feminine passive participle of H3467; something saved, that is, (abstractly) deliverance ; hence aid, victory, prosperity: - deliverance, health, help (-ing), salvation, save, saving (health), welfare.
(Soteria) Thayer.....deliverance, preservation, safety, salvation
  1. deliverance from the molestation of enemies
  2. Strong's Definition: Feminine of a derivative of G4990 as (properly abstract) noun; rescue or safety (physically or morally): - deliver, health, salvation, save, saving.
These two definitions also are identical to how heaven is and the definition of the gospel as in Luke 4:18-19.

In both 2 Corinthians 4:4 and 1 Timothy 1:11, they refer or point to the gospel that Christ (Messiah) preached. What was the reason why Jesus came? According to 1 Jn 3:8 it was to destroy the works of the devil. And according to John 10:10 He came to steal, kill and destroy. And looking at Genesis, we know that there was no curse in the earth until Adam and Eve turned the lordship of it over to the devil (satan). And is why the devil is still called the god of this world. So in his ways are poverty, oppression, lack, death, etc.

As we look at the Word kingdom.... its royal power, authority to rule, kingship, and domain. So the gospel of the kingdom is the good news where God reigns. The believer whom is submitted to God's dominion over them, or they have given God authority to rule over their lives. And God's royal power is at work in that believer, and for that believer (John 14:21).

Can we on our own power achieve total wholeness, wealth, healing, deliverance, victory, or preservation, and still be able to have eternal salvation? The worldly wealthy can achieve prosperity...but not the rest, and at what cost do they obtain it? They have to either toil to get it, or they gain it by dishonest methods. But in Christ as explained in Luke 4:18-19, Jesus (and The ways of Him and the Father, by inter leading of the Holy Spirit) is the one we can rely on to cause us to gain without toil (working incessently, exhausting physical labor... proverbs 10:22)

Gospel of God... encompasses the trinity. All three have a part to play in making the good news of the gospel (Luke 4:18-19) come to pass, along with the committed believer. For the believer has to have faith in Gods ability to bring all this to pass.
In Thayer's definition of God (G2316) # 3 a and b refers to the things of God, His counsels and interests...and #4 says whatever can in any respect be likened unto God or resemble Him. And Jesus and all of us were made in His image and likeness (Genesis 1:26).

Blessings to you

Good question Chris. Is the good news the same all the time????

Consider for one, the people who are saved during the Tribulation. Is the gospel then the same as it is today???

I would submit to you that it is not. Just as the other examples you posted are different, so is the one during that time frame.

Not only will one have to accept the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour, in addition to that they must not take the Mark of the Beast.

Rev. 14:9-10.......
"And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb".

Also, it appears that those who accept Christ, refuse the Mark of the Beast must also keep the commandments of God.

Rev. 14:12...........
"Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus."

What are your thoughts Chris?

Hi Major

It's so good to read so many of your entries today, thank you.

It is clear, from the features you have described, that the gospel prevailing at the time of Revelation 14:9-10 is not that by which you and I were saved. Why do I say that? Because, going by the content of the verses you have raised, firstly, no one who has been saved by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ will ever drink of the wine of the wrath of God, because for them there is no condemnation (Rom 8:1,2):-
'There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus,
who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.'
Secondly, for those so saved (today), the commandments of God play no part in their salvation, for it is all of grace.
So, I believe that the people who are the subjects of this period are of a different dispensation (as you say) and so is the gospel they have received.

The warning given in Revelation 14:9-10 are very solemn indeed, aren't they? I do not believe that they can be interpreted of the Church of God.

Thank you, Major

'And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world
for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.'
(Matthew 24:14)

Hello again, Major,

Just one more thought, Is not the gospel by which the people of that day are saved, not, 'The gospel of the Kingdom'. For it will be preached again before the end comes, will it not? (Mat 24:14):-

This gospel which had been the subject of Old Testament promise and prophecy, was 'at hand', when preached during the Lord's first advent, for those who had waited for 'the consolation of Israel' (Luke 2:25); and who 'looked for redemption in Jerusalem' (Luke 2.38); and who 'waited for the Kingdom of God' (Mark 15:43). Many believed this 'good news' and 'trusted that it had been He who should have redeemed Israel' (Luke 24:21).

But, after the Kingdom had been rejected, and the King crucified, it was again proclaimed to Israel, and the announcement made that the King was ready to return (Acts 2:38; 3:19-21), on the one condition of national repentance. The response by the leaders of Israel on behalf of the People was one of opposition, and the preachers of this 'Gospel of the Kingdom' were 'threatened' (Acts 4:21). So Israel was temporarily laid aside in unbelief at the end of that period (Acts 28).

Yet those words of Matthew 24:14 have yet to be fulfilled, don't they? Just prior to the end, and our Lord's second advent. It was certainly not fulfilled during the period of the Acts.

Hello again,

The Everlasting Gospel (Rev 14:6,7), has been considered in reply#6,

'And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven,
having the everlasting gospel to preach
unto them that dwell on the earth,
and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,
Saying with a loud voice,

"Fear God, and give glory to Him;
for the hour of His judgment is come:
and worship Him
That made heaven, and earth, and the sea,
and the fountains of waters.'

Leaving four more to consider:-

'The Gospel of the Kingdom' (Matthew 4:23; 9:35; 24:14; Mar. 1:14,15)
'The Gospel of God' (Rom.1:1; 15:16; 2 Cor. 11:7; 1 Thess. 2:2,8,9; 1 Pet. 4:17)
'The Gospel of the Grace of God' (Acts 20:24)
'The Gospel of the glory of Christ' (2 Cor. 4:4; 1 Tim.1:11) - Literal translation.

I do no think so Chris. Jesus said, in John 18:36 that ......“My kingdom is not of this world”. So, although we must live here until God calls us home, we are not to live for ourselves or according to this world’s value system. Those who have been bought by the blood of Jesus have been given the right to live according to God’s value system. Citizens of the kingdom of God live here on assignment from our Father the King. Living with a kingdom mindset empowers us to make wiser decisions as we invest our lives in furthering the gospel of the kingdom.

The gospel of the kingdom is the good-news message of repentance, redemption, and restoration offered by God through His grace to all who will receive Christ. Those who accept this offer become part of His eternal kingdom.

When Christ came on the scene He began His ministry proclaiming a coming kingdom. This kingdom was the very kingdom the Lord had promised Israel many years earlier. His ministry was ONLY to Israel. He was not proclaiming a kingdom to anyone else. Many today read the gospels as if Christ's coming and ministry was to and for all men but the Bible proves them wrong to all who believe it.

It is a little difficult to explain this fully as we are not allow to speak of the Rapture Doctrine, however, believers in the future Tribulation will not have a new nature, be placed in Christ, or have Christ permanently indwelling them. Simply put, the means of salvation as we know it today will no longer exist. The differences in the time frames will make it impossible for a believer to be born again as we now understand it, placed into Christ's Body, or keep eternal life by faith alone. Instead of being like salvation in the Church Age, salvation will be very similar to the way it was in the Old Testament with works playing a part.

Those who are saved during the Tribulation are saved by a different gospel. They are saved by faith in Christ Plus something else. First of all, they must reject the mark of the beast and secondly they must follow the commands of God.

At least that is the way I understand it.

Thank you Chris. You are always say such nice things and have such a sweet disposition. Your Christianity is showing!!!!

Yes sister, I agree completely. That is why I have always said that getting saved in that coming time is going to be really difficult.
But then you know what, when I read about the 1st church and how it was persecuted, it also was a time when it had in precedented growth.

Persecution makes us better. Most of us are just like the church. When there are no more rivers to cross, we put out boats in storage. That makes us lazy.

When there are no more mountains to climb, we put our climbing boots under the bed. That makes us lazy.

What the believers have to do in that time will make them better Christians, hard, tough and even though they will be persecuted, they will grow to a multitude that John said he could not count. Praise God for those dear people because eI for one think that their time is really, really close!!!

Hello Cturtle,

It seems that in answer to the questions, 'Do all these expressions mean the same thing?' and 'Is the good news the same in each case?' You have answered, 'Yes' by the content of your response. Whereas I believe that God has given us these differing definitions because there are differences to observe.

* I believe that we agree that the words, 'Kingdom of God', refers to the sovereign rule of God.

* However, with respect to you CT, I do not believe that Luke 17:21 tells us that the kingdom of God is 'in' us, I believe that in that passage, the Lord Jesus was telling the Pharisees that the kingdom of God was 'in the midst of them', for He (their King) was there in their presence. He would not have said to the Pharisees (who sought to destroy Him) that the Kingdom of God (or His sovereign rule) was 'in' them, for they were obviously not of God, for they did not believe on Him.

* Also, when I spoke of the everlasting nature of 'The Everlasting Gospel', which is proclaimed in Revelation 14:6,7: it was to that gospel only which I referred; for it is not is not descriptive of every form of 'good news' made known throughout Scripture, but only of that one, for it only was the gospel proclaimed from everlasting:-

'Fear God, and give glory to Him;
for the hour of His judgment is come:
and worship Him
That made heaven, and earth, and the sea,
and the fountains of waters.'

* Please do not be offended by me, Cturtle, for I appreciate the work that went into your response; but I cannot venture into what you have said in detail without deviating from the purpose of the OP.

With love to you.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your taking the time to read what i felt led to write. I am in no way offended By Your disagreement of it. For it is your choice to believe as you desire.

I do not desire to have any control over how someone perceives what God gives me, It's their job to meditate and study the Scripture and allow the Holy Spirit, to bring them the light and understanding of what it means. And I am in no way the all knowing God. :)

It is my job to sow the seeds of what I believe God to show me and let the Word speak for itself. For even the Apostle Paul said that he is just the seed sower and God is the one who waters it. So in all honesty my job is done unless someone else decides they have any questions on what was given to me.

As far as your responding and taking this thread in a different direction...its your thread and if you desire it to go in a different way that is up to you. For many times a good discussion is like a river, taking many turns and such.

May the Lord richly bless your study of this topic and lead you in the way everlasting, that brings you much peace, and bears witness with your Spirit.

Love in Christ
Gina

(John 18:33-37)
'Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again,
and called Jesus, and said unto Him,

"Art thou the King of the Jews?"
Jesus answered him,
"Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it thee of me?"
Pilate answered,
"Am I a Jew?
Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me:
what hast thou done?"
Jesus answered,
"My kingdom is not of this world:
if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight,
that I should not be delivered to the Jews:
but now is my kingdom not from hence."'
Pilate therefore said unto Him,
"Art Thou a king then?"
Jesus answered,
"Thou sayest that I am a king.
To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world,
that I should bear witness unto the truth.

Every one that is of the truth heareth My voice."

Praise God!

* The words, 'but now', are important aren't they? For though His Kingdom is not 'of' this world, it will be in this world when it descends from heaven to the earth, and all that has been promised concerning it in Old Testament prophecy, both for Israel and the Nations will be fulfilled at that time.

Thank you, Major.

Hello Major,

Thank you again for this response. I agree that what pertains during the Tribulation period will be different from that of today regarding salvation. Though I see these things concerning end time events very much 'through a glass darkly', I'm afraid.

'The Gospel of the Kingdom' (Matthew 4:23; 9:35; 24:14; Mar. 1:14,15)
'The Gospel of God' (Rom.1:1; 15:16; 2 Cor. 11:7; 1 Thess. 2:2,8,9; 1 Pet. 4:17)
'The Gospel of the Grace of God' (Acts 20:24)
---------------
'Now after that John was put in prison,
Jesus came into Galilee,
preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,
And saying, 'The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand:

repent ye, and believe the gospel.'
(Mar 1:14,15)

Hello again,

This 'good news' was regarding the subject of the Old Testament promise and prophecy regarding the Kingdom: the good news being that it, 'is at hand' How wonderful this news would have been to those who had waited so long for it's fulfillment. The one condition for fulfillment was national repentance, and as we know that did not come. The Kingdom was rejected and the King crucified.

However, after the Kingdom had been rejected, and the King crucified, it was again proclaimed to Israel, by Peter and the Twelve, and the announcement made that the King was ready to return (Acts 2:38; 3:19-21), on the condition of national repentance. But this proclamation was still opposed by the People through their rulers (Acts 4:17,18); and the preachers of this 'Gospel of the Kingdom' were 'threatened' (Acts 4:21).

When Peter's ministry to the Circumcision ended in his imprisonment (Acts 12), and Paul was commissioned and sent forth, it was with
the added good news of Grace. This is what was time and again claimed by Paul as, 'my Gospel.' (Rom. 2:16; 16:25; 2 Tim. 2:8) . So that when his epistle to the Romans was written, it opens with the words, 'Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an Apostle, separated unto the gospel of God'

This was good news of a different character. This was news of grace proclaimed, not to Israel only, or to any one nation, but to individual sinners of the Jews and of the Gentiles alike; to all without distinction. It was grace proclaimed to Jews who deserved God's wrath, and to Gentiles who deserved nothing. So it is called, 'The Gospel of the Grace of God'.

This was further good news, as set forth in Romans and the other Church epistles. It was the good news that those who are in Christ are reckoned by God as having died with Christ and having risen with Him; and that when this gospel shall have accomplished its object and gathered out from Jews and Gentiles all who believe on His Name, then they will be gathered together unto Christ in resurrection glory.

There is only '
the gospel of the glory of Christ' to be considered now. Although I would have liked to have looked at each one in more depth, but time won't allow.

Thank you for your patience.
In Christ Jesus
Chris
