The Armor is Christ

What is the armor that we are to put on? The armor of God is Christ. We look not outwardly to defeat the devil but turn to the Christ within who has already defeated him. By giving the mind to Christ and allowing the word to renew that mind, the believer has power over his enemy.
Thus, the new enemy is the enemy set against Christ. When the believer fixes that in his mind, he ceases to be a devil-chaser and a demon-conquer and instead rests in Him Who has already given us the victory.

We look not outwardly to defeat the devil but turn to the Christ within who has already defeated him.

Scriptures, God's Word are what defeats the enemy.

Now then unless you are built up in His most Holy Word and submitted to God to the point you actually are walking up right in His ways , you can sling scripture, hoot and hawler and do nothing more then shadow box and loose the battle.

Head knowledge of God's written word does very little for a person.
Scripture says out of the Heart the mouth does speak and not once said out of the head or mind the mouth does speak.

Just wanted to add this little tid bit.

* We can certainly only 'put on' the armour of God by faith, for it is a spiritual armour: and the act of 'putting on' is one of 'reckoning', reckoning on the efficacy of the finished work of Christ. Who through faith we have also, 'put on', by His grace (Gal. 3:27).

* This armour has only six pieces, called elsewhere, 'the armour of righteousness', and, 'the armour of light'.

The Girdle = Truth or faithfulness
The Breastplate = Righteousness
The Shoes = Gospel of Peace
The Shield = Faith or faithfulness
The Helmet = Salvation
The Sword = The Word of God

* Paul worked to ensure that those under his care were 'thoroughly furnished' as 'good soldiers' of Christ Jesus. He taught them, so that they would know what the Lord Jesus Christ had secured for them, and would therefore with confidence, 'reckon', on the faithfulness of God to accomplish all that He had promised for them.

* We cannot acknowledge by either word or deed what we do not know and are fully persuaded of. Therefore we are to be no more children but mature in the knowledge of God in Christ Jesus, and by constant use able to wield the Word of God skilfully, that we may STAND in His Name.

Praise God!

How does this prepare a believer for knowing how the enemy operates and attacks and how to fight or resist these attacks using our armour?

Blessings

By living the new life within "Christ."
He is still the only power a believer has in any event in life.
The verse, Gal. 2:20, really sums up true life.
We have only one life and it is Christ, to try and live some kind of life apart from that will be total confusion and doubt.

True Jim, I would add if I may; proper understanding and rightly dividing the word in our day, will be life or death, spiritually.
Present truth, 2nd Peter 1:12, is at hand, and will be either accepted or rejected by the believer.
The mind will always reject revelation because it is not a controllable component, the little word "yield" plays a big part in the believers growth.

I appreciate your taking the time to answer, but honestly that does not answer my question. For there is a lot more to living by Galatians 2:20 then one can see at first glance. And walking according to this verse does not tell anyone how to know your enemy, how he operates and how to resist or fight against him.

One has to know about each piece and how it works, and then to realize that it is never flesh and blood we are fighting against, but against principalities, and evil rulers of this world.

I also believe you are incorrect about the mind being uncontrollable. Romans 12:2 says to renew your mind, which is a huge part of controlling it...and 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 is the other major key to controlling the mind...and is the biggest and most important part of winning the Battle in the mind, and greatest defense that we have in the spiritual warfare area. It's vitally important to our armour. With out it and understanding that it is key, one will loose more battles than win, and will always wonder why they are leading a defeated life.

God bless

Hello Cturtle,

I do thank you for your entry, for it has brought me to a line of enquiry that always brings me joy. I hope you will bear with me, while I consider this. Years ago now, while attending a Bible study group, a verse from Romans came up for discussion, it was, Rom 8:13:-.

'For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die:
but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body,
ye shall live'
.

Three of us spent time discussing this, and I can see their lovely faces in my mind now.
Praise God!

The question was, 'How?' How do you 'mortify' the deeds of the body? What does 'mortify' mean? It means 'to put to death', yes? But How? After some consideration, we found the answer in Romans 6:7-13

' Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him,
that the body of sin might be destroyed,
that henceforth we should not serve sin.
For he that is dead is freed from sin.
Now if we be dead with Christ,
we believe that we shall also live with him:
Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more;
death hath no more dominion over him.

For in that He died, He died unto sin once:
but in that He liveth, He liveth unto God.
Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin,
but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body,
that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin:
but yield yourselves unto God,
as those that are alive from the dead,
and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.'

* I believe that the same thing applies to the mind, it is a matter of reckoning ourselves to be dead to 'the carnal mind' of the Old Nature (Rom. 8:7, Gen.6:5, Isa.55:8), and alive to the mind of the New Nature that we have by faith in Christ. The mind of the old nature cannot be improved, cannot be changed (Rom.8:7,8), but the mind of the New Nature needs no improvement (Romans 7:23,25). It serves the law of God (Rom.7:25), and delights in it (Rom. 7:22).

This is nothing new to you, Cturtle, I know, but it is good to share these things with one another, isn't it?

Praise God!

'Stand therefore,
having your loins girt about with truth,
and having on the breastplate of righteousness; ... '

(Eph 6:14)

Hello again, Cturtle

As you have said, the Bible gives us instruction regarding the warfare between flesh and spirit, it informs us of the wiles of the Devil, and of the armour of God that He has provided, and knowledge of this is vital. Knowing also of the armour that God has provided equips us mentally to reckon on it's efficacy, and to stand and see the salvation of our God: for it is He Who is 'our Salvation,' 'our Righteousness', and all that the armour represents for us (1 Cor.1:30).

We now live before God, as those who are raised from the dead, reckoning on the armour God has provided, and it's equipment of us, in Christ: and live in the knowledge of His abiding protection; for we are raised far above all principality, power, might and dominion (Eph.1:21, Col.2:10), in Him, and our life is hid with Christ in God (Col.3:3). What blessed assurance that is isn't it?

This is again a reiteration of what you already know, but it is good to do.

Hello Complete
Actually it needs improving by being fed daily. Yes we have the mind of Christ in our new nature but it still needs development other wise every born again believer would not have any struggles in their lives.

We need to renew our minds daily so our new minds of Christ may develop within us. Just as Faith must be fed to develop so must our minds in this new nature.

Romans 12:2. 2 Corinthians 10:4-5.
Galatians 5:16. 2 Corinthians 9:8

Romans 12:2 ....
And be not conformed to this world; but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind that ye may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God

(Get His word in you each and every day and speak His word each and every day)

2 Corinthians 10:4-5
4... For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to pulling down strong holds

5... Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.

(Begin to practice the words you speak and thoughts you think for our thoughts and words to control how we act or react and believe. Our own words do more do influence our thinking then most of everything else)

Galatians 5:16
This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh

(The more you do the first two the more you will begin to walk in the Spirit and you will be amazed to say the least)

All done through the Grace of God who maketh all grace abound to me. (2Corinthians 9:8)

Blessings and love in Christ

And thank you as well, I do understand that one question or answer leads to another.
Starting with, Galatians 2:20, Paul talking about the "I am crucified" life is speaking about a life that came about by the cross.
It is not a life that comes about by our doing anything.
When Jesus died on the cross we died with him, all in Adam are dead.
The world is dead in Christ, 2 corinthians 5:14, that's why we need to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation.
Point being, we are dead, we have no life of our own, Christ is the only life of the believer.
Seeing our completion in Christ, is to be renewed in mind to who we are. The battle is no longer ours but belongs to christ.
A life spent trying to defeat the enemy is a life spent separated soulishly (mind) from the Christ within, there is no separation in spirit ever. He that is joined to the Lord is one spirit, 1 corinthians 6:17.
He became sin that we might become the righteousness of God, in Christ. The in Christ word, term, vernacular, principal, position, whatever title we want to give it, it is the message.
Most bible students know, when God uses a verse or term once we listen, when he uses it twice, he is stressing a point, we have the in Christ message as doctrine over 150 times.
That is a lot of weight in scripture, mostly found in the epistles of the apostle Paul.

Excellent thoughts all. Speaking to Romans12:2 and the idea of being "transformed by the renewing of your mind", is a wonderful miracle of the work of the Holy Spirit.

That is because man can not renew himself in the spiritual war that we are fighting today. Man can reform and try to make himself new, but the old nature we all have will eventually take over again.

The miracle of transformation...not reformation, of the mind comes about only when we surrender our body, soul and spirit to God.

I always enjoy your thoughts and clarity. I would also agree with you that the warfare of the believer is with the corrupt and sensual desires and potentials of the undegenerated human heart, for "the heart is wicked above all things and desperately wicked" (Jer. 17:9).

We, believers are also at war with external corruption and ungodliness with all forms of sin and sensuality. We war against powers of darkness and spirit of evil that continually seek to destroy us. That battle folks will go on until we are safe at home with our Lord.

Praise God!
Thank you for your reply Chris! I quite enjoyed reading it! And I do enjoy sharing with one another I agree.

In my thinking we as seasoned believers who are getting or have already gotten grounded in this truth, have to take it a step further for those who are just starting out or have not come across this truth before. Because it is so contrary to the way the world thinks.

I like the way the nlt puts Romans 12:2....."
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

And the way the amplified reads as well....." do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to it's external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideas and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].

Striving towards the goal to attain or become one with the mind of Christ takes mind renewal to the ways of The Word. Our mind was not born again upon salvation and obtaining the mind of Christ is not automatic. Yes, it belongs to us because we are a Child of God, but, It's a progression, or a transformation that has to take place continually, from what I understand the Scriptures to say. Like you said we have to make a conscious decision or recon ourselves to this truth.

There are way to many influences in this fallen world that try to tempt us to allow our minds to be subject to its ways. And if we will decide to continually renew our minds to the Word, then we will have a mind that always agrees with God's Word. And then the more Word that is put into our spirits, will produce an abundance that will come out of our mouths, which is another vitally important thing for us as believers to live a successful Christian life, another important piece of the puzzle so to speak :)

Colossians 3:2 says....
And set your minds and keep them set on what is above (the higher things), not on the things that are on the earth.
Colossians 3:2 AMPC
http://bible.com/8/col.3.2.AMPC

1 Peter 1:13 says to gird up the loins of your mind. Which in my thoughts means to protect your thoughts and mind from junk (worldly thoughts and things) or wrong thoughts.

And if we keep our minds centered on Jesus, and His ways of doing and being right and what is above and according to Philippians 4:8 (For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them].
Philippians 4:8 AMPC
http://bible.com/8/php.4.8.AMPC) then we will have a greater chance of keeping the mind of Christ as our own.

Many new believers or ones who have not grasped this concept will read what is written and say "ok, I agree with that or it bears witness with my spirit...but how do I put that into action in my life?" This is something I have come to understand only because it is where I have been many times. Someone will say just do this and my mind says "how". :) And is the reason why I chose to go a little more in depth in my response.

God Bless you sister! Thanks for the opportunity to reply

Stand in His name? Meaning what?

Hello Fish Catcher Jim,

We are to stand on the promises of God in Christ Jesus, trusting in the armour of God which is ours in Him. This is a matter of reckoning on the faithfulness of God in Christ Jesus, and relying on the surety of His Word to us.

- In order to stand on the promises of God in Christ Jesus, we have to know what they are.
- In order to stand on the sure foundation of the finished work of Christ, we have to know what He has accomplished.

This requires, as you have said FCJ, that we feed on the Word of God, and get to know the things that God has accomplished in Christ Jesus, by His sacrifice for sin, and by His resurrection from the dead. By so doing our faith grows, and becomes established in Christ by God's grace. It is then that we can stand against the wiles of the Devil, and be thoroughly equipped to, 'Cast down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ' (2 Cor. 10:5).

This is an internal work, and the fight is for the most part an internal fight. For the mind is the control centre of the body.
'Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;' (1Pe 1:13)

Hi Nobleman,

As I was reading your reply, this quote puzzles me a bit. Because in all honesty if we don't fight the enemy by taking every thought captive and casting down all imaginations that exalt themselves as truth above the knowledge of God, and use every piece of armour that God has given us....then all the ungodly thoughts and lies from the enemy, and ungodly images and imaginations are the things that keep one from full unity with Christ.

When we are fighting the good fight of faith and using our God given armour to protect us from the attacks of the enemy is when we are most connected in unity to our Savior. The Holy Spirit leads us and guides us into all truth. And abiding in the vine is what allows us to use our armour effectively.

Blessings to you

'Although the fig tree shall not blossom,
neither shall fruit be in the vines;
the labour of the olive shall fail,
and the fields shall yield no meat;
the flock shall be cut off from the fold,
and there shall be no herd in the stalls:
Yet I will rejoice in the LORD,
I will joy in the God of my salvation.
The LORD God is my strength,
and He will make my feet like hinds' feet,
and He will make me to walk upon mine high places. '

(Hab 3:17-19a)

Hi there,

I remember, many years ago now, when I was struggling to get to grips with this concept of 'reckoning', standing in the garden, in the rain, waiting for my husband to close up the house, for we were going out together; my mind in turmoil, feeling under siege. For all I could see was my failure, and in my misery I cried out to God, and said, 'Oh Lord my God, I can see no fruit on the tree of my life, no evidence of the sanctifying work of the Spirit to latch my faith on to, but I will trust you, for I believe what you have told me in your Word.' That moment marks for me the transitional period in my life, where I stopped looking within and placed my mind on Christ and His finished work. I began standing on the promises of God, in Christ Jesus, my risen, glorified Lord.

Praise His Holy Name!

Thank You Sister Chris,
That's what I wanted to see !!
If I have learned anything in this forum at all it would be that you can Not take for granted that every one knows what is being written in a post.

I have been told in here that being patient means to simply put up with something and been told that's how you stand.

Oh yea, been told that standing in Christ is God testing our weak areas and so much more. It's truly sad how God's word is not better understood by many.

That is why I asked you meaning what. It was your Post so I thought it only right that you should be the one to expound on it.

So thank you Chris and have a very blessed day.

What I am saying is the mind that is being renewed to Christ, is taking on the Armor of God, Christ in us is the Armor of God.
If we could do anything in ourselves, there would be no need for a cross.

If I may ask a question not just to you but all of us in here.
It's not loaded, there is no right or wrong answer.
I'm wondering what "Christ in you" means to you, and if He is in us what is He doing there and how does He come out of us in expression.
