JESUS - On earth in the Millennium? Questions to consider.

Hi @Major,

  1. You talked about Israel`s land, which is correct but you didn`t address the scripture referring to the Lord`s authority & where this is -

`far above all,....not only in this age but also in that which is to come.` (Eph.1: 21)

  2. Yes we are told that the Lord descends to the mount of Olives, & we are also told that he ascends `with a shout,` after He has `subdued the peoples ` under Israel. (Ps. 47: 2 – 5)

  3. The verse in Ps. 68: 17 refers to the angelic hosts that are always before the Lord. See also Daniel 7: 10.

  4. I do not believe that the Lord will be showing people, as you said -`how life could have been if man had accepted Him when He came the first time.` That is not the purpose of the Millennial rule of Israel over the nations.

  5. Sickness, death & rebellion were on earth when the Lord came the first time in His human body, however He now has a glorified body & is exalted to the highest place in heaven.

    - If the armies of the world were plague stricken when they saw Him, (Zech. 14: 12)

    - & the Apostle John was as dead when He saw the Lord with His `countenance like the sun shining in its strength,` (Rev. 1: 16)

    - & even the `earth & heaven fled away,` from His face, (Rev. 20: 11)

Then the Lord is more majestic & powerful than we can ever imagine. Thus to bring Him down to our level of ruling physically on this earth, is to me, not understanding who the Lord is, His authority or His power.

  6. `And fire came down from God out of heaven & devoured them.` (Rev. 20: 9) This clearly shows where God the Son is ruling from & not `holed up` in Jerusalem surrounded by Satan & the world`s armies.

Of course Jesus is on earth when He rules from Jerusalem in the Millennium. That is His time to be the earthly King. It's all scriptural, and there should be no misunderstanding it. It is one promised era of 1000 years out of eternity.

Jesus will sit on the throne of DAVID.

Isaiah 9:7
There shall be no end to the increase of His government and of peace,
[He shall rule] on the throne of David and over his kingdom,
To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness
From that time forward and forevermore.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will accomplish this.

Isaiah 16:5
A throne will be established in lovingkindness,
And One will sit on it in faithfulness in the tent (dynasty, family) of David;
Judging and seeking justice
And being prompt to do righteousness.

Luke 1:32
He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.

Hi @Euphemia,

Yes Jesus will sit on the throne of David. And we need to remember that the Lord Jesus Christ said -

“I am the Root & the offspring of David, the bright & Morning Star.” (Rev. 22: 16)

I am the Root of David: Deity.

This title depicts Christ as being the originator of David`s life for behind David`s ancestry, authority & ability stands the Almighty One, Jesus Christ the Lord. Moreover Christ the Shepherd-Saviour is the supreme Sovereign, the very King of kings & Lord of lords who planned & directed David`s royal line.

This means that the `throne of David,` was planned by the Lord & it originates in His eternal throne in the highest. The earthly throne is under that authority & receives its power & wisdom to rule from Christ`s own eternal throne.

The Lord God does not have a "physical" body, but supernatural spiritual body. So, yes he (Jesus) will be reining in his spiritual body, while at the same time never leaving his Father.

1Co 15:44.. It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.

Hi @CCW95A,

It is a spiritual body that is `clothed with our habitation which is from heaven.` ( 2 Cor. 5: 2) After Jesus was resurrected He said to Thomas - `Reach your finger here, & look at my hands; & reach your hand here, & put it into my side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing.` (John 20: 27)

Marilyn.

Hi @Abdicate,

Thank you for your concern. I do respect you & what you say. However I do not see this topic as a `foolish question.` This is what I said in the OP -

`I believe it is of the utmost importance as it strikes at the very heart of the pre-eminence of the Lord Jesus Christ. Do we bring Him down to our level (in our minds) or do we exalt Him to the highest place?`

Thus I will elaborate as to what I mean -

The Pre-eminence of Christ.

I believe there is a very strong push for people to think of the Lord Jesus Christ as just some sort of superman but not really GOD. People are told He is their buddy, pal, & we even have `Jesus is my boyfriend` type songs. There is a real lack of understanding of Jesus in all His glory & majesty.

When we look at descriptions of Him we see -

`His head & hair were white like wool, ...& His eyes like a flame of fire; His feet were like fine brass...& His voice like the sound of many waters; he had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, & His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength. And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead.` (Rev. 1: 14 – 16)

And He who made all authority realms is Himself `far above all these.`

`...far above all principality & power & might & dominion & every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.` (Eph. 1: 20 & 21)

`For by Him all things were created that are in heaven & that are on earth, visible & invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him & for Him. And he is before all things, & in Him all things consist.` (Col. 1: 16)

When we get a glimpse of the heavenly court, we realise that there are realms & administrations far beyond our understanding, which are all under the Lordship of Christ.

`I watched till thrones were put in place, & the Ancient of Days was seated; His garment was white as snow, & the hair of His head was pure wool. His throne was a fiery flame, its wheels a burning fire; a fiery stream issued from before Him. A thousand thousands ministered to Him; ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him. The court was seated.` (Dan. 7: 9 & 10)

How do you see the Lord Jesus Christ, Abdicate?

Marilyn.
That wasn't your question which was in the title. "JESUS - On earth in the Millennium?" Yes. He'll fight all the muslim nations and call all the nations to the Valley of Jehoshaphat, Joel 3, and they will need to come once a year, or it won't rain on them, Zech 14:16-17. The day they come is on His birthday!

Marilyn.
Jesus for 40 days walked about earth in his resurrected physical body, but that is not the body he has now. The resurrection was not complete until Jesus sat down on the right hand of God in his supernatural spiritual body.

Actually, He'll still have the marks on His body when He comes and rules the world, Zech 13:6.

When we read the account of Jesus appearing in his resurrected "physical" body he looked pretty much the same as he did before. Jesus tells his disciples that it was he himself, and that a spirit does not have "flesh, and bone" as he had then. (Luke 24:36- 43) Now when we read the account of the Apostle John who knew Jesus up close, and personal, he describes him much differently than in his resurrected physical body. Now, John describes Jesus as looking like the Son of man in the book of Revelations.

Rev 1:12.. Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands,
Rev 1:13.. and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden sash around his chest.
Rev 1:14.. The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire,
Rev 1:15.. his feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the roar of many waters.
Rev 1:16.. In his right hand he held seven stars, from his mouth came a sharp two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in full strength.
Rev 1:17.. When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, "Fear not, I am the first and the last,

This is for sure is a different description of the Son of God in his supernatural spiritual body as apposed to his resurrected physical body. It does not appear John knew exactly who this person was until Jesus speaks to him.

For a thousand year period, Jesus will rule all nations of the Earth out of Jerusalem, occupying the Throne of David. He will not abandon His sovereignty from His throne in heaven, but bodily the nations of the earth will enjoy peace and order and supreme and holy justice---the way God has created it to be, with His Bride by His side.

Hi @Abdicate,

You were concerned that the question was foolish, so I told you my reason - `it strikes at the very heart of the pre-eminence of the Lord Jesus Christ.`

I noticed that you hadn`t addressed that.

Marilyn.

Hi @CCW95A,

Good detail there bro. So let`s have a look at this `spiritual body` of the Lord Jesus Christ.

`I saw ....one like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet & girded about the chest with a golden band. His head & His hair....& His eyes....His feet....& His voice....He had in His right hand....His mouth....& His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength...` (Rev. 1: 12 - 17)

The amazing, glorified spiritual body of the exalted Lord Jesus Christ. Always good to look at & meditate upon our Lord. And to think that we are being changed into His likeness with a glorified body similar to His. Leaves one utterly speechless, prone upon the ground, as the Apostle John was.

Oh just read your comments back further, must have missed them, sorry. The difference I believe between the Thomas account & what John saw, is the exaltation of the Lord to the highest place & His Deity attributes in full display.

What do you think?

Marilyn.

Hi Euphemia,

So can you explain to me how you see the Lord Jesus Christ ruling on earth during the Millennium, as fulfilling this scripture -

God `seated Him (Christ) at His right hand in the heavenly places, FAR ABOVE ALL principality & power & might & dominion, & every name that is named, NOT ONLY IN THIS AGE BUT ALSO IN THAT WHICH IS TO COME?` (Eph. 1: 20 & 21)

Also why is our `citizenship in heaven,` (Phil. 3: 20) & we are encouraged to `seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set you minds on things above, NOT ON THINGS ON THE EARTH.` (Col. 3: 1 & 2)

God`s word clearly tells us that our inheritance is in heaven, NOT on this earth, bro. `Let no one defraud you of your reward,..` as the Apostle Paul warns us. (Col. 2: 18)

Marilyn.

The Millennium isn't the end. It is another era or dispensation of God's agenda for mankind. After the Millennium comes Judgment and the dispatching of all sin and death and then all who are righteous will see the Father come down in the New Jerusalem to live with us forever.

So...heaven will be here, God's new capital, His home base. From that point, prophetic scripture ceases..

Right now, Jesus is ruling and reigning from the heavenly realm. He will always rule and reign.

@Marilyn C, and Co.,

So much diversity of thought on this subject, isn't there?
I confess that I am confused.
So, I am not taking part in the discussion, but am reading the appropriate Scriptures, within their individual contexts, in order to understand what the Word of God actually says regarding the millennial reign of Christ.

May God give understanding.

With love in Christ Jesus
Our risen and glorified
Saviour, Lord and Head.

Agreed! What I thought at first was someone wanting to know has turned out to be nothing more than something to argue over. I do not know what the point of the thread is so I am like you......"confused", so I am out!

Interesting that Peter, James, and John all saw this event before Jesus was raised from the dead on the Mount of transfiguration, and it has almost the exact same description of Jesus in his glorified state. This shows us that "time", and position or location is "irrelevant" to a spiritual being who is eternal.

I have noticed that some people have been taught that `Jesus is on earth in the Millennium.` I wonder if people have really thought this through. Thus I am putting forth these questions for people to consider.

Now you may well ask, “Does it really matter if we think that Jesus is on earth or in heaven in the Millennium?”

I believe it is of the utmost importance as it strikes at the very heart of the pre-eminence of the Lord Jesus Christ. Do we bring Him down to our level (in our minds) or do we exalt Him to the highest place?

So here are some questions that may help you consider where you believe that the Lord Jesus is, in the Millennium.

  1. Why does Jesus rule physically on the earth since He has been given the authority `far above all,` in this age & the one to come? (Eph. 1: 20 – 22)

  2. Why would the Lord rule from His `footstool`& not from His eternal throne? (Isa. 66: 1)

  3. Why would the Lord leave His eternal throne, His seat of power in the highest heavens, leave His position as King of Heaven & rule from earth? (Dan. 4: 37)

  4. Why would the Lord rule over the universe, angelic hosts & the glorious realms above from this speck of dust? (Ps. 68: 17)

  5. Why would the Lord rule from this physical earth with all its frailties, when He has a glorious body made for the realms above? (Rev. 1: 13 – 18)

  6. Why would sickness, death & rebellion etc exist on this earth if the Lord was here in person? (Isa. 65: 20 Zech. 14: 17 – 19)

  7. Why would the Lord at the end of the Millennium be physically in Jerusalem, surrounded by Satan & the world`s armies? (Rev. 20: 7 – 9)
These & many more questions need to be looked at concerning this `teaching` of `Jesus on earth in the Millennium. Have you ever considered these questions? I hope you do.

Thanks for your Questions Marilyn
It's clear you love our Lord and have His glory as your motivation. One thing I notice though Marilyn is that in all the verses you site you appear not to have taken the context into account. In q 1 that verse is of course true but His authority is (in this dispensation of grace) that of our Intercessor. Yes, He is and always will be our Lord and King but He is at present our High Priest. In q2 Isa speaks of a corrupt earth and not an earth where the curse has been removed. Q3 these are the words of Nebuchadnezzar and he spoke according to the revelation he had received. Q4 this "speck of dust" has great value in the site of its creator and as such is held in His hand and plays a vital part in His eternal plan and purpose. Q5 this earth will have the curse of sin removed during The Lord's millennium reign and so will not be faulty. Q6 yes, this is a question that has puzzled me too. However, sin will be punished instantly then. Q7 He will be there to personally punish the beast and false prophet even though He could speak but a word and all would be done. It seems to be that as a man He lived, died and rose again. As a (glorifie) man He intercedes for us and as a man He will confirm His final victory and as a man He judges all men.
Thanks Marilyn

Hi @Major,
Sorry that you think we are arguing. I believe we are discussing an important topic as I said in the OP whether Jesus is on earth in the Millennium. I said I wondered if people have really thought this through & thus I said I am putting forth these questions for people to consider. I then went on to say that my desire was to exalt the Lord to the highest place & not bring Him down to our level.

I hope that refreshes your memory. Marilyn.

Hi @Euphemia,

Thank you for discussing this important truth with me. So let`s look at some scriptures that the Lord Almighty says concerning `dwelling.`

`Go & tell my servant David, "Thus says the Lord: "You shall not build me a house to dwell in. For I have not dwelt in a house since the time that I brought up Israel, even to this day, but have gone from tent to tent, & from one tabernacle to another.` (1 Chron. 17: 4 & 5)

`Then Solomon said, "The Lord said he would dwell in the dark cloud. But I have built you an exalted house, & a place for you to dwell forever." (2 Chron. 6: 1 & 2)

Solomon prayed, `Lord God of Israel, there is no God in heaven or on earth like you.....will God indeed dwell with men on earth? Behold heaven & the heaven of heavens cannot contain you; how much less this temple which I have built!

Yet regard the prayer of your servant.....that your eyes may be open towards this temple day & night, towards the place where you said you would put your name..." (2 Chron. 6: 1 & 2, 18 & 19)

So it looks to me like God uses that word `dwell` to mean that His presence is there, His blessing. It seems to me He does not mean that He will move His eternal throne or Himself to the earth. `Behold heaven & the heaven of heavens cannot contain you.` This is written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit so it is true.

Hope that clears up `dwelling.` Marilyn.
