Where do dinosaurs fit in?

I have always been curious about this. Where and how do dinosaurs fit in from the creation story until their death?

I have always been curious about this. Where and how do dinosaurs fit in from the creation story until their death?

This is a huge topic, and most people have no clue in how to fit this into Christianity as the "dinosaurs" lived "millions" of years ago, yet the earth from the book of Genesis seems to be only thousands of years old. The Bible tells us that in the last days there will be many people who will ask the question about God's coming, as they think in their mind that the earth has just been continuing on like it did from the beginning, and there is no "sign" that God will be coming back anytime soon. Even though the Bible tells us many things about events that have transpired from the beginning, they on purpose have decided to not believe them.

2Peter 3:3.. Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
2Peter 3:4.. And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

Has everything been just going on like nothing has happened from the beginning of creation? Absolutely not!!! The next verse here tells us something very profound.
In the beginning there was dry ground, which God called "earth", and then all of a sudden the entire earth was covered over completely with water!!! (Geneses 1:2) This water "destroyed" the earth "completely". From Genesis 1:2 onward describes God "recreating" the earth from its former self using the existing material left over from this flood. The earth started out as "dry ground" by "standing out of the water", and then became "over flowed in water."

2Peter 3:5.. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

Verse 6 tells us the world that then existed being overflowed with water "perished" The word "perished" means "to be completely destroyed"
This would not have been Noah's flood as the earth at his time was not completely destroyed as all the trees and and vegetation all came back on their own.
This flood was so devastating that God had to once again bring forth "seed" for all the plant life to return. Notice: it says the "world that then was..." perished.

2Peter 3:6.. Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:

Now look at verse 7, it says "the earth which are now...." There was a earth that then was, and now there is a earth that now is!!
The earth that we are living on now is not the same earth that then was as it was completely destroyed by water. The earth itself when it was first created is millions, and millions of years old, but the earth we are now living on is only thousands of years old, as it was made out the existing material as the first earth.

2Peter 3:7.. But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

I said all this just to say this, the "dinosaurs" that lived on the the earth millions of years ago, was living on the earth that then was, which is why we still finds remains of their existence on this earth that now is.

@CCW95A That's a very interesting take on the issue. That is a good answer in my opinion. I have tried to think it through many ways but my answers in the end don't make any sense. Thanks for commenting!

They were with everything else in creation, and I believe some were on the ark, but because the entire earth changed post flood, they died off. Since pre flood earth saw no rain, we can suppose that there was a much higher oxygen content on earth, allowing for ability to live longer and to have giant creatures. After the flood, we see the earth as it is today, eliminating some of the larger dinosaurs. For the rest of the kinds of dinosaurs that were smaller in size, they were probably driven to extinction with a growing human population. Every culture, from Asia to South America has stories about giant lizard like critters killing people, I don't think its a coincidence.

Dinosaurs are part of the mega fauna and flora that existed before Noah's Flood. Since then the entire climatology of the world drastically changed and our planet has significantly dried up and become much more arid over the millenia. Animals and plants not only became extinct, what survived has de-evolved to become much more smaller. The power and energy of creation has lost much of its vigour and biology deteriorates over the millions of generations.
Before the Flood, Sid the sloth was the size of a polar bear, and a sabre-tooth tiger was 3 times the size of today's tigers.
Remember that Dinosaurs and the history of biology is not a salvation issue - other than the fundamental truth that in in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
The total extinction of the dinosaurs and their replacement by mega mammals is a very strong spiritual truth or example of how God can do away with the old and replace it with the new - such as: the Old Testament being done away with and replaced with the New Testament. And even more relevant on a personal basis is being born again by water (the flood) and the Spirit (creation) and becoming NEW CREATIONS in Christ Jesus for the old has passed away...

But for sheer fun and entertainment on the Christian perspective of Dinosaurs and the Flood one cannot do better than the Youtube channel hosted by
none other than Trey Smith -

Look up ica stones - engraved stones showing human / dinosaur "interaction"

G'day Klub, just a small point:
Gen 2:5 When no bush of the field was yet in the land and no small plant of the field had yet sprung up—for the LORD God had not caused it to rain on the land, and there was no man to work the ground, ...
The way I read that, the reason the ground was bare of bushes and shrubs was because there had been no rain (at that time). But after the place got started obviously there were plants and shrubs etc. the fruits were given for food. But if the reason there were no shrubs etc was lack of rain, then obviously that changed long before Adam and Eve were booted out of Eden.
The mist in verse 6 seems to prepare the ground, but there is nothing to suggest that the mist remained til the time of the flood.
Also there were rivers flowing out of Eden, but no mention of springs or melting snow...where did the water come from if not from rain?
Just some thoughts.

Like I wasn't there to see, but I think the bigger the Dinosaur the bigger the egg and the harder to keep it safe from predators. That along with hunting especially of smaller sexually immature juveniles could easily see the dinos become extinct.
Just some thoughts.

Gen 1:2.. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

Were did all this water come from?

@Waggles
These stones are all andesite (a kind of volcanic rock). A stone of this nature is dated by the strata in which it is found (no carbon dating, and atomic resonance will only tell one when a volcanic stone solidified). The patina is easily duplicated, and is not useful for confirming either the age or the authenticity of the carving.

Although sketchy records go back to the beginning of the 1900’s, the controversy concerning these stones dates from the 1960’s when a Dr Cabrera of Peru received one of these stones for his Birthday. He began collecting them. The locals were happy to find them for him (sell them to him). They began selling them to others as a kind of tourist item.

The locals quickly found that if the stones depicted dinosaurs, and other things from books of archaic life, that they commanded a much higher price, particularly if they also included human shapes. A few ‘found’ stones depicted scenes suggesting visitation from space, but they did not do as well.

All kinds of anecdotes have sprung up. One says that one of the carvers was brought in to swear to the conditions surrounding finding them. He swore to their authenticity, but in the ‘reports’ it was not mentioned that just outside the room was a local constable who would arrest him for selling forged items (the prospective prison sentence would be longer than the expected lifespan of a prisoner).

Anecdotes, such as the above do not bear either toward their authenticity nor their being fakes. How you assess it depends upon whether you look at it through a predisposition that the collective expertise of trained evaluators is usually more accurate than outlying impressions, or that mainstream science is anti whatever you are for.

In another thread, I commented on the striking parallel between Big Bang Cosmology and the first three verses of Genesis.

But even if the Big Bang is accepted as a true, it would be wrong to now claim that it was the clear teaching of scripture. The most a careful believer can say is that such cosmology is compatible with scripture. If unassailable information should then come that this explanation is false, it should not rattle the believer into some fear that scripture is in error. It is compatible with scripture, not the message of scripture. It would be your your interpretation of scripture that was in error, not the scripture itself.

The Parallels in Genesis go on, so that Richard Deem a believer and scientist wrote concerning the evolution debate “Of all the holy books, the Bible is the only book that correctly describes the order of creation as revealed by science.” It is also true that there are remaining differences. I would be misleading your to say that all theoretical issues have known resolutions.

The debate between scripture and other ways of learning about God’s world have been happening since the Pentateuch. In early Christianity, it was the teachings of Aristotle, and his school of thought that was making waves.

Augustine of Hippo (also known as St Augustine) wrote
Usually, even a non-Christian knows something about the earth, the heavens, and the other elements of this world, about the motion and orbit of the stars and even their size and relative positions, about the predictable eclipses of the sun and moon, the cycles of the years and the seasons, about the kinds of animals, shrubs, stones, and so forth, and this knowledge he holds to as being certain from reason and experience. Now, it is a disgraceful graceful and dangerous thing for an infidel to hear a Christian, presumably giving the meaning of Holy Scripture, talking nonsense sense on these topics; and we should take all means to prevent such an embarrassing situation, in which people show up vast ignorance in a Christian and laugh it to scorn. The shame is not so much that an ignorant individual is derided, but that people outside the household of the faith think our sacred writers held such opinions, and, to the great loss of those for whose salvation we toil, the writers of our Scripture are criticized and rejected as unlearned men. If they find a Christian mistaken in a field which they themselves know well and hear him maintaining his foolish opinions about our books, how are they going to believe those books in matters concerning the resurrection of the dead, the hope of eternal life, and the kingdom of heaven, when they think their pages are full of falsehoods on facts which they themselves have learnt from experience and the light of reason? Reckless and incompetent expounders of Holy Scripture bring untold trouble and sorrow on their wiser brethren when they are caught in one of their mischievous false opinions and are taken to task by those who are not bound by the authority of our sacred books. For then, to defend their utterly foolish and obviously untrue statements, they will try to call upon Holy Scripture for proof and even recite from memory many passages which they think support their position, although they understand stand neither what they say nor the things about which they make assertion.

Scripture is not to be used as a scientific answer book. Science is not to be used to refute scripture. Either may be used to provide additional insight on the other.

Some things are of more importance to one or another of us than to others. If it is important, study the matter. If it is really important, examine all sources, knowing that not all sources are equal for any given question.

If a brother is on the 'other side' of one of these debates, it does not mean that he is of the enemy.

I believe that the mist was more of a water canopy, and the rainbow shown to Noah seems to be the first rainbow that man had ever seen. Of course this is all speculation, having only a few vague verses that go with it.

These guys are a lot smarter than me when it comes to creation based sciences.

I hear you. There is a teaching out there that the water which is already in existence in Genesis 1:1-2 is the water left over from the 1st flood.

Genesis 1:1-2.........
"In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters."

It seems clear that the WATER is there on the earth before God begins the Creation process. I have thought for a long time now that the water in verse 2 is from a previous flood. That event would answer the problem of dinosaurs being hundreds of millions of years old where the genealogy record of the Bible is 6000 years. Do we really believe that man lived along side of dinosaurs ???
