lord putting things on you're heart...

If you're saved, you have experienced it atleast once.

Aside from that, when its through day to day activities, I cannot describe it to you. I pray that you seek a more intimate relationship with Him so that you can experience it. It only comes with a close relationship with God.

How does that feel like...how is it like...

I've never had that happen to me....

Just wondering how its like..

Ya know if you think about it...your grocery store experience is a manifestation of this. Without the Holy Spirit...you may have just walked away :)

Anyway...its just a knowing. A deep peaceful God given desire to bless someone else or talk to someone, or what have you. It may even be something like having this urgency (not panicy, but i have to do this right now) to pray for someone. And then find out later that God used you to pray help to get to them because they were not in a position to pray for themselves. Sometimes its not always something that we realize right away (because you just do it without thinking). God tugs at our hearts and usually we obey unless we doubt that we should.

I think something to remember is that it is not a feeling. Faith, joy, love, compassion, etc...are not feelings but spititual forces that are the very characteristics of God Himself. All you need is a willing and obedient heart. When God can trust you to be obedient...He will use you more. Its not rocket science...its obedience, and trusting in the fact that He is leading you and doing the work...its not by your own power, its by faith in His :).

I pray this helps :) blessings!

I am sensing that i am to give you a couple of verses to encourage you. John 14:12 says verily, verily (I tell you the truth firmly) I say unto you. He that believeth (think to be true, place confidence in) on me, the works that I do shall he do also. And greater works than these shall he do, because I go unto My Father.

Read Matthew 22:1-14. In this parable...God's plan will be carried out, who will carry it out can change..we have to choose to be available :) God will take someone who is willing over someone who thinks they are so righteous, that they have better things to do, or they have not time, or the things that they think are small (but are great to God) are beneath them.

Quite often I realize that after the fact.. Like I do something without understanding what prompted me to do that.. Then down the line, as events of life unfolds, I would realize it was Spirit of God which moved me to do something like that! I am still learning to grasp it at the moment.. I am still so happy that Lord would order my steps and take care of me so much even when I am not realizing it

I do think I've felt it a couple of times...i think it could be described as intution.... Like, though I dont have all the facts..i just know..i should do this..or should go this way.

Nehemiah 2:12..........
"I told no one what my God had put in my heart to do at Jerusalem".

Today it has come become more and more popular where lots and lots of people want to believe that God has audibly spoken to them and that we could all have God speak to us directly and "put things on our hearts".

However, the New Testament does not ring with the tenor of Christians listening to an inner voice, but to the voice of God through Jesus and His apostles! Thus the first Christians "continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine" as told to us in Acts 2:42, rather than their own thoughts.

The bottom line is that God spoke to people directly in Bible times, but has not promised to speak to us "in our hearts" today. If what we think God is telling us is against what His word says, we know it is not from God. If it is the same as what His word says, we don't need it because we already have His word!

I promise you that great care must be taken in claiming God is speaking just because we feel something. Remember the warning of the Proverbs 30:6......
"Do not add to His words, lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar".

Rather than promising to put things in our hearts, God wants us to take His words into our hearts and truly hear them!

Ps. 119:11...........
"Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You".

Ps. 40:8..............
"Your law is within my heart".

We all need to listen for God where you know He is-in the Bible!

The holy Spirit speaks to God's children all the time, we just have to learn to listen.
John 16:13 - However, when He the Spirit of truth has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and will tell you things to come.

And yes you are right that we have to make sure it lines up with the Word of God.

Major in this quote of yours I find it a tad strange and contradicting to say the least.
YOU SAID.....Today it has come become more and more popular where lots and lots of people want to believe that God has audibly spoken to them and that we could all have God speak to us directly and "put things on our hearts".

Brother that is TWO DIFFERENT topics all together.
Audible voice ( hearing it as we hear each other ) Placing on our hearts ( Holy Spirit speaking or getting our attention)

I know you are trying to make a point but scripture tells us by His still small voice inside of us and it is called the Holy Spirit and this is the very same as placing something on your heart.
It's a knowing something and knowing it is God and you need to deal with it.

Further more to say God our Heavenly Father does not speak with His creation or His Blood Bought and Washed Spirit Filled Children is absurd. God is always speaking BUT IT IS MAN who is not always listening.

Major if I totally did not grasp what you meant please forgive me........... ;)

Blessings
Jim

I do think I've felt it a couple of times...i think it could be described as intution.... Like, though I dont have all the facts..i just know..i should do this..or should go this way.

Every person has to have a spiritual leader. Our thoughts come from either God or the devil. So make sure that the intuiton that you are feeling lines up with the Word. Unless it's something like don't go down that street or be in that building. Those are thoughts from God...to keep you safe because He knows that there is danger in those areas.

I heard a story from my pastor, that everyone who belonged to a certain church, in New York, was close to ground zero, that taught their congregation how to hear the Holy Spirit, and had jobs in the twin towers, not one of their lives were lost. They didn't hear an audible voice, but in fact one man heard run in his spirit, eh turned and ran into the subway, and that was just seconds prior to the planes hitting the builing. He came out of the subway without so much as a piece of debris on his clothes. Now that in itself is a testimony to the goodness of God, who will make things known unto us if we are listening.

Blessings

Jim

Thank you for the question. And of course I forgive you. I can see by it that you did not grasp my point.

You said..........." scripture tells us by His still small voice inside of us and it is called the Holy Spirit".

That in itself is may be the reason you did not understand. You see there are no Bible verses that say the Holy Spirit speaks to us in a small still voice. That means your comment is YOUR opinion and you are of course entitled to it just as I am to mine.

That is why it is so very important to stick with the Scriptures as a basis for what we say when it comes to these kinds of conversations. So then lets see what you are referring to by commenting on what I said.

The truth is that there is only one place in Scripture where God is said to speak in a “still small voice,” and it was to Elijah after his dramatic victory over the prophets of Baal and that is in 1 Kings 18:20-40; 19:12. When he was told that Jezebel, the wife of Ahab, king of Israel, was seeking kill him, Elijah ran into the wilderness and collapsed in exhaustion. Then the Lord sent a mighty wind which broke the rocks in pieces; then He sent an earthquake and a fire, but His voice was in none of them. After all that, the Lord spoke to Elijah in the still small voice, or “gentle whisper.”

So then, does my comment seem to contradictory in any way??? Is it absurd or is in fact based in the Scriptures?
What is the point then?

The point of God speaking in the still small voice was to show Elijah that the work of God need not always be accompanied by dramatic revelation or manifestations. Divine silence does not necessarily mean divine inactivity. Zechariah 4:6 tells us that God’s work is “not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,” meaning that overt displays of power are not necessary for God to work.
We as believers are that by faith in God's promises not by displays in power or super natural abilities

Because He is God, He is not confined to a single manner of communicating with His people. Elsewhere in Scripture, He is said to communicate through a whirlwind in Job 38:1, to announce His presence by an earthquake Exodus 19:18, and to speak in a voice that sounds like thunder 1 Samuel 2:10; Job 37:2; Psalm 104:7; John 12:29.

In Psalm 77:18 His voice is compared to both thunder and a whirlwind. And in Revelation 4:5, we’re told that lightning and thunder proceed from the throne in heaven.

Nor is God limited to natural phenomena when He speaks. All through Scripture, He speaks through His prophets over and over. The common thread in all the prophets is the phrase, “Thus says the Lord.” He speaks through the writers of Scripture. Most graciously, however, He speaks through His Son, the Lord Jesus. The writer to the Hebrews opens his letter with this truth: “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world” Hebrews 1:1–2.

The difference between God speaking through the thunder and the whirlwind, then through the still, small voice, can be also considered as showing the difference between the two dispensations of law and grace. The law is a voice of terrible words and was given amidst a tempest of wind, thunder, and lightning, attended by an earthquake Hebrews 12:18–24, but the gospel is a gentle voice of love, grace, and mercy, of peace, pardon, righteousness, and the free gift of salvation through Christ. The law breaks the rocky hearts of men in pieces, shakes their consciences, and fills their minds with a sense of God’s fiery wrath and the punishment they deserve, and then the gospel speaks gently to them of the peace and pardon available in Christ.

It is less important how God speaks to us than what we do with what He says. God speaks most clearly to us in this day through His Word. THAT WAS AND IS MY POINT JIM. The more we learn it, the more ready we will be to recognize His voice when He speaks, and the more likely we are to obey what we hear.

The question that must be asked now of you is how are you so sure that any silent voice you hear is God? How do you know it is not your own mind playing tricks on you? How do you know it is not your own mind retrieving some piece of information that you read somewhere or heard sometime? One person I know thinks that what he hears is from God because he hears it during his prayer time - he was praying when he heard it, so it has to be God. Really???
Suffice it to say that Jesus while He was fasting for 40 days when the devil came to him.

Thank you for agreeing in that............."And yes you are right that we have to make sure it lines up with the Word of God".

If you will read again comment #9 that is exactly what I said.

THAT is my whole point sister.

I believe that God’s voice is the written word. As we study and meditate on that word, it becomes more and more in us and part of us. I believe that God thinks to us more than he speaks to us. Often the Holy Spirit would just bring a scripture or something in the Bible to you, and that is a sure indication that God is leading you in a certain direction.

You may call that a small still voice if you like. My only point here is that I would be careful about telling people to listen for small still voices. God does not want us to be lead by voices. His word is a lamp unto our feet, and a light unto our pathway as told to us in Psalm 119:105. I believe that God wants us to listen to His voice through His word.

Always a blessing to read your thoughts!

That is a real blessing. I too have heard those same kinds of testimonies. I have had men tell me that they had a "need" to move over a foot to get a better view of the battleground scene and in the next instant a shell hit exactly where they were.

That is the grace of God even when we do not recognize it at the time.

When I turned to Christ about a year ago, I somehow knew that I had been saved in the nick of time. I even prayed to Jesus 'Please take me with You as soon as possible' - and I had never even heard of the Rapture or end times back then!

God speaks to us through His Spirit, by the reading of His word, through the ministrations of His people, through circumstances, and simply by His own still, small voice to our spirits---all timely and perfect promptings for us, sometimes to act, or speak, or pray, doing His will in the lives of others.

1 Kings 19:12
And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire [a sound of gentle stillness and] a still, small voice.
