Lust

Lust is a sin commonly talked about and condemned in the Bible, mostly the New Testament.

Here is how dictionary.com defines lust (all definitions):
– noun
1. intense sexual desire or appetite.
2. uncontrolled or illicit sexual desire or appetite; lecherousness.
3. a passionate or overmastering desire or craving (usually fol. by for): a lust for power.
4. ardent enthusiasm; zest; relish: an enviable lust for life.
5. Obsolete.
(a) pleasure or delight.
(b) desire; inclination; wish.
- verb (used without object)
6. to have intense sexual desire.
7. to have a yearning or desire; have a strong or excessive craving (often fol. by for or after).

I know that the Bible condemns sexual lust and the coveting type of lust, but I am focusing on the sexual one. It is a problem that all humans, especially us men, have, and I am no different. Just because something is natural does not mean that it is good. But anyway, which of these definitions is the Bible talking about generally? What would be a good study on the definition of this word? I know that lust is dependent on a stimulus, whether it be a woman, a man, or a chair. So what happens when someone gets that same feeling of lust when they are just sitting around, not doing anything that would incite lust? Is it just testosterone at that point, and is it considered sin? I know that these are problems that not only I deal with, but that you (mostly the men) also deal with or have dealt with in the past.

1 Cor 10:13 [NASB]
No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.

Juk,
First of all, being tempted is not sin. Allowing temptation to get the better of you is.

Please also understand that the joining of husband and wife is a cementing of the two and helps create an unbreakable bond between them. This is partnership between husband and wife is holy and can be used by the Lord to further His glory and become a team that works together by trusting each other implicitly. It is because this is such a great source of strength that the enemy works so hard to undermine it any way he can.

Now body chemicals (hormones) do play an important part, but to simply say it is all a 'natural' reaction misses the spiritual point.

For a young man who has not learned how to let the Lord give him peace in this, there are two opposite wrong ways of dealing with it:

> One wrong way is to think it does not matter and let his mind dwell on the physical. The enemy will surely take you down this road if you let him.

> The other wrong way of handling this is to let the inability to exclude these thoughts from the mind make you think you are fundamental evil and unworthy of the Lord's love.

Both wrong ways concentrate on the sin, and not on the Lord. Fight this temptation by filling your mind with uplifting and wholesome material. Of course scripture is great, but also other wholesome things. Fellowship (having good times) with believers helps greatly. For some kinds of sin, the best way of fighting it is to leave it less and less room within your thoughts until it has shrunk to a size that you can trust the Lord to deal with.

When you find yourself tempted, concentrate on something else you really enjoy. When you fail, confess to the Lord quickly, not letting it fester in your mind.

We all have to learn how to positively use the Lord's gift of physical love. It is a gift from the Lord, but we need to learn how to control it rather than letting it control us.

Hey Juk check this out - Lust of the fless does NOT always mean anything sexual.
Anything can be a lust if you alow it too.
;)

Another thing - Learn to walk in the spirit and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Not every man Juk has to deal with this. ANY MAN or BOY if they chose to can make a solid choice to seek God in this through His written word and not ever be bothered again. ANY ONE JUK.
Blessings

Gosh, I wish I could never be bothered by this again (yes, I know Jim, you are going to tell me that I can be. I just don't know how. I have prostrated myself before god - literally face down on the floor - over this). I don't mean physically. I don't cheat on my wife. But Jesus said that simply looking is the same as actually doing it. I have taught myself to look away. But it still catches me. Men are visual. I hate that just a split second look can trigger that feeling. I quickly look away, and pray to God for forgiveness, but I hate that it happens to begin with.

Yes, that is good advice, and what I do. It just seems like I'm doing it too much. At least I am at the point now where I don't let the thought linger. It took a lot of discipline to get to that point though.

I look away out of respect for my wife, and to obey God: Matthew 5:28 - "But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart." It makes me feel bad that even if it only lasted 2 seconds, I have committed adultery in God's eyes.

Quick question while I write something I want you to hear.
Why is it that you have these thoughts even for 2 seconds to fight or deal with ?

I don't have an answer to that. I'm not perfect. Perhaps there are some on here that don't, but I have weaknesses. This is one of them. I don't want you to think that in my mind I want to have sex with those women. I certainly don't, not even for 2 seconds. But I still have eyes, and they still have their attention caught. Jesus says I should pluck it out, but I'm not that brave.

John to notice a beautiful woman or a fancy car or a big bear is not wrong. We have eyes and things catch our attention. If your eyes catch a pretty girl in them - well praise God thank Him for two good eyes pray labors of the field to cross her path and move on. Dont beat your self up. However your concern says there is a little more to this then just seeing something.

2 Timothy 1:7
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.

for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

John does sound mind sound like a mind that has to wrestle with lust ?
So then Here is one of many scriptures that says John or any one does not have to live this way.

Read it out loud and make it personal - put your name in there and speak against this lust. God did not give me a mind of lust but of power - LOVE and a sound mind.

John remember these ?

Galatians 5:16 and Romans 12:2 and 2 Corinthians 10:4-5

Romans 12:2 ....
And be not conformed to this world; but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind that ye may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God

2 Corinthians 10:4-5
4... For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to pulling down strong holds
5... Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God and bringing into captivity every thought

Galatians 5:16
This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh

So make these scriptures your main diet with 2 Timothy 1:7 and remember
2 Corinthians 9:8
All done through the Grace of God who maketh all grace abound to me.

There is so many other scriptures John that if you will not only chew on them daily and I mean morning noon and night that will set you free from this greater then you know. Speak them out constantly so you hear your self. Pray them or another words take them to God in prayer but NOT begging but as a SON who comes boldly before Him with His word.

John you do not have to battle this - a man does not have to live with this kind of mental torment. If God said it is wrong then it must be a better way available to us. ; )

You can do this and it does not need to take a long time to get there either.
God Bless

I am so glad that everything comes so easy for you, Jim, and that you have not had to struggle with any negative emotions or weaknesses of the flesh.

John do you want sympathy or deliverance ?
John I can only show you what works from knowing it works because I have already been there and struggled and found the way out and took it.

Look if you knew you were going to have to fight this huge crazy guy who loves to tear people apart and there was no way out of it. You would tend to be some what scared correct? Well what if there comes a man who has seen the future and showed you that you win. You see that you truly 100 percent won the battle and this evil mean man was no more. That would change how you felt correct ? I mean you would not be scared and in fact you would be bold and confident at that. We all would.

Now then John why not give God and His word the same respect and trust. Jesus has already defeated this lust or any other thing we may need delivered from or set free or over come.
What does all this mean.
Simply put -

Jesus is the man who has shown you the future or out come which is victory.
You John or any one else has already won this battle. The victory has ALREADY TAKEN PLACE - BUT you have to FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT OF FAITH John.

Now then where is the Confidence in His written word that YOU already beat this ?
Where is your boldness that this can not hold you back for the victory is already yours and has already been won.

One can either seek pats on the back and talk about how hard it is or how much every man has to deal with this and it never goes away - Or you can STAND ON GODS WORD and walk this out fighting the good fight of faith until you know that you know you received your victory and it will never have a hold over you again.

So it must be nice to have things so easy and never be bothered by negative thinking reply is the most ridiculous and strangest thing I have ever heard you say. ;) For if I had not had to struggle for years I would not have found or learned that we can be free for life of this and could not show you how.

If you want sympathy or pats on the back I will leave that for others - if you are tired of dealing with this or anything I will show you how you over come.
Thanks for being a friend and brother.
Love and Hugs in Christ
God Bless
Jim
