Promises from God - Ephesians 1:2-4

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed be the God your Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavens in Christ, for He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, to be blameless in His sight.

What do we learn from this verse?

Grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ
Here are two blessing prayed upon the believers right from the start, grace and peace.

Grace: unmerited favour towards our pardon and salvation.
Peace: state of beautiful rest and acceptance for believers found only in God through Christ Jesus

These are continually through scripture being wished upon believers, thus indicating it is a continuation of the state of either, thus not a once of, boom, and you are set for life. Thoughts?

“…who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavens…”
For starters, not some, but every spiritual blessing that is in the heavens. Now this sounds exciting all on its own. The blessing has already been done / given, and those blessings are ones from heaven, not earth. So what can it be? The term spiritual blessing is only used in this passage in Ephesians, but for me possibly could means the same as every spiritual gift in heaven, as blessings are not clearly defined. Or I have not yet found it. 1 Corinthians 10:3,4 also talks of spiritual food and drink, without which we will be up for destruction – so refers to our salvation. Those food and drink is Christ, and truly, without Him, we only have destruction. According to 1 Corinthians 12, spiritual gifts are listed as: 1) message of wisdom 2) message of knowledge 3) faith 4) gifts of healing 5) performing miracles 6) prophecy 7) distinguishing spirits 8) different languages. These things our spiritual being harken to once salvation is reached.

“…in Christ…”
These blessings / gifts are all heavenly, if we are not rooted in heaven through Christ, we have none.

“…for He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world…”
Now this is special, since God chose us before we existed and before the world existed, chose us to freely have His gifts from His heaven and be part of it fully.

“…to be blameless in His sight.”
Now see that the calling of us and the beautiful blessings are freely available to us, it does not just happen for us though, we must be blameless before Him. It is important to note the letter was written to people who were already believers, already accepted Christ, and therefore encouraged to remain blameless before God so they can operate in the gifts of heaven that was already made available to them.

What do we learn from this verse?

Anytime we find grace, we find the Lord doing something for us that what we do not deserve. Being "blessed" is what we do not deserve, but God does it anyway because of his love towards us. It is because of Jesus Christ, and through Christ this was possible. When someone says good things about you, you are being blessed. When we praise God and worship him, we are "blessing" him. When the Lord says good things to us we are being blessed by him. All the "spiritual blessing" we have come by God speaking to his through his Word as his Word is "spirit" and it is "life". Do these spiritual blessing over flow into this physical world? Absolutely yes! It is the spiritual world that controls the physical world, and not the other way around. We have all our needs met because the Lord God has given to us his Word that tells us that according to his divine power he has given to ALL things that pertain to "life" and "godliness" through knowledge of him. We need the "knowledge of him" before these things can be made real to us. All of these things which God has already "blessed" us with he wrapped up, (like a present) in the form of a "promise".

Anytime we find grace, we find the Lord doing something for us that what we do not deserve(agree). Being "blessed" is what we do not deserve(same as a gift), but God does it anyway because of his love towards us(agree). It is because of Jesus Christ, and through Christ this was possible(agree). When someone says good things about you, you are being blessed. When we praise God and worship him, we are "blessing" him. When the Lord says good things to us we are being blessed by him(agree all). All the "spiritual blessing" we have come by God speaking to his through his Word as his Word is "spirit" and it is "life"(agree). Do these spiritual blessing over flow into this physical world? Absolutely yes! It is the spiritual world that controls the physical world, and not the other way around(Not sure where it was, think Paul, did he not say the physical comes first, then the spiritual). We have all our needs met because the Lord God has given to us his Word that tells us that according to his divine power he has given to ALL things that pertain to "life" and "godliness" through knowledge of him(2 Peter 1:4 - have to get there still, but yes, life is there). We need the "knowledge of him" before these things can be made real to us. All of these things which God has already "blessed" us with he wrapped up, (like a present) in the form of a "promise"(Also 2 Peter 1:4).[/QUOTE]

1 Corinthians 15:42-49. Physical before spiritual

This deals with the resurrection, so not "applicable" to our blessings discussion, but I'd like to search on this one a bit.

Every one is born "physically" first, and then born "spiritually", but once the spiritual comes we now have the power to overcome the physical. Sense the physical is world is temporary it can be changed by the spiritual which is eternal. Everything in this physical world is being controlled by the spiritual either by light or darkness, blessing or cursing.

“…for He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world…”
Now this is special, since God chose us before we existed and before the world existed, chose us to freely have His gifts from His heaven and be part of it fully.

All these "blessing" were given to us in Christ before the world began. It is just a matter of finding out what these blessing are so we can acquire them by faith. We can not receive what we don't know we have. Jesus "destroyed death" by bringing "life, and immortality to light through the Gospel". (2 Tim 1:10)
Our salvation came after we found out what God had done for us through his Son. If we did not know this we would still be in darkness, which is death.
God's Kingdom is a Kingdom of revelation, and of knowing what he has given unto us from the beginning. If we fail to get this information then we will not be able to experience it in this life!

Yes, I remember, there is a passage where, think Paul, says, everything is yes and amen at the cross, pertaining to promises. I'm going to have to look for it again. But all promises are yes and amen. It's already fulfilled and completed.

2Co_1:20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

To me the verse is saying we are blessed to be holy..God is making us holy through giving us his holy spirit...that is the gift from Heaven, upon our acceptance of Jesus. The spiritual blessing is like how when Jesus was baptised the holy spirit came on him like a dove. Then he could do all the things he did with the power of the holy spirit.

When I look in the old testament at how God blessed the israelites like Jacob and Esau and their sons Isaac would place his hands on their heads and pronounce the blessing. When I look at how Jesus was blessed by the holy spirit, a voice came from heaven saying Thou art my beloved son, in thee, I am well pleased.

A blessing is Gods favour we pronounce on other people. It needs to be spoken. When Jesus spoke the sermon on the mount, he was addressing the people hearing him that day. The words spoken have meaning to us. A blessing is God saying he loves us.
A blessing is the opposite of a curse.

The written word of God talks about THEE BLESSING OF THE LORD all through out the old and new testiment.

Spiritual blessings in Heavenly places are the promises of God. We have inherited all of them through Christ Jesus. For most people they never unlock them to work on their behalf. It is when we are walking by Faith and doing His written word that we are able to use these promises on our behlaf.

Love, forgiveness, faith and no doubtling and so forth are required to activate them. It is up to each believer to not only find these but learn how to use them other wise they are of no use to you.

One of the most awesome parts is His grace, for if we miss it and make mistakes, it is ok for Grace has us covered. God is looking for obedience not perfection. He can get some one to fix what we missed for He wants to reward us for our obedience and He does.

Have a blessed day
Jim

Arrie what bible version are you reading as im pretty sure the one you quoted missed out the words we should be holy.

Every time God "blesses" someone it is because he says something to them. The promises of God are his blessings to us his Church.

Gen 1:22 And God blessed them, saying, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth."

See CCW post #14.
I personally believe that spiritual blessing is a very wide field. Our salvation is a spiritual blessing, for example.
