School vs Jesus

If you guys did not know, I go to a secular school, a charter school. Because of this, there are many temptations. Temptations to sin, and temptations to accept world teachings. Evolution is an example.

The thing about me is that I have sort of a problem with resisting the temptation to sin in school, though they are small sins, like saying the word, "suck" (my parents said I could not say that word...) or making fun of someone, like Michael Jackson, or talking idle speech, or losing my temper on a classmate. Many, many temptations. Those are the ones I fall into constantly.

I know that you guys would say to keep my eyes on Jesus, but that is the issue, and the whole reason why I made this thread. How do I keep my eyes on Jesus in such a secular environment?

Juk, you should influencing those around you and not them influencing you. You have the power and authority of God in you, and they do not. Keeping your heart, not head set on things above where Christ sits in all his Glory with you inside him can not be hid from those around you. You are more than a conqueror, and you are a King and priest of the most high God. Think on these things and it will be come evident to all. God never lights a candle and puts it under a bead, but on a candle stick for all to see!!!

God doesn't expect us to be perfect people. Please, Juk, have some compassion for yourself. Know that you are on a JOURNEY with Jesus, and He will speak to you concerning things you need to change---one by little one. God doesn't put pressure on us to mature all at once. If you have received Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, then just know that, hey---you are on the team!!!

You are on that narrow path, and you are clearly hearing Him concerning certain behaviours. When you feel as though you have sinned, simply confess it to God sincerely and then forgive yourself. If you are a "repeat offender" in some areas, you will need to use some self-control, and for a teenager, that can be a difficult thing, but it is NOT impossible, for God does some of His very best work among teens who are pliable in His hands. So, don't fall to the lowest common denominator kind of thinking that says "Kids will be kids". That is a mythic wave of the hand over bad behaviour.

Just give yourself some grace, as God surely is doing so! Imagine God as the Potter He is, and you are a blob of clay...and you really are! Let Him poke and prod you, and it might hurt sometimes, but He is molding you, bit by bit to conform to the image of His Son, and to be that unique vessel He has had in His creative mind since before the beginning of time! Knowing that God has had you in His mind's eye for eons should cause you to sit up and take notice and to become that malleable piece of mud on His wheel.

Isaiah 64:8
8 And yet, O Lord, you are our Father.
We are the clay, and you are the potter.
We all are formed by your hand.

Our job is to relent and let Him make something beautiful out of us---something that will reflect His glory to the world. Remember, too, that it is the clay pots that are cracked that shed the most beautiful patterns of light. None are identical, either! so, you are one of a kind!

Ah my brother Juk o son we meet ogain!!
Ya know bro this sound alot like the flesh man leading you around through out your public debuts. Sounds like your Spirit man is a tad anorexic during your showings in the public bub.

So now you know the problem or situation........You know how to fix it from other threads.
So now here is your Jesus home work assignment.
Get in the word and renew your mind bubba.
Galatians 5:16 and Romans 12:2 and 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 for starters

Romans 12:2 ....
And be not conformed to this world; but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind that ye may prove what is that good and accepttable and perfect will of God

Galatians 5:16
This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh

2 Corinthians 10:4-5
4... For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, bnut mighty through God to pulling down strong holds
5... Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.

This is how I keep my oil full and my wick trimmed and my flame bright
All done through the Grace of God who maketh all grace abound to me.
Blessings and love in Christ ( 2 Corinthians 9:8 )

I believe that God led me to read Ephesians 6:13-20, the whole armor of God. It told me to keep my eyes on Jesus through the helmet of salvation. This was just last night.

There is a tendency among some denominations to separate themselves as much as possible from the world to protect from evil influences. This may be a good thing if you're a new believer, but not for too long. We have to live out in the world, not just to shine the light of Jesus, but to grow in Christ.

When I read your school situation, Juk, I thought that's just a picture of our society today. On the whole it doesn't get any better out in the 'real world'. And the situation in the early church was no different.

At one time Ephesus was a sanctuary for criminals, where nobody could be arrested within bowshot of the walls. Thieves, murderers, and the like lived there without fear. Temple prostitution was a big thing, and the resulting children were killed with barely a thought. Yet, Christians lived among them and grew in Christ. What was their secret? the same as in all of those early growing churches: their focus was on knowing Christ and trusting in Him for daily living.

Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus. It isn't always easy, but the more you do so, the more you will be able to resist the world's influence.

Because of this, we also, from the day in which we heard, do not cease praying for you, and asking that ye may be filled with the full knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding, to your walking worthily of the Lord to all pleasing, in every good work being fruitful, and increasing to the knowledge of God, in all might being made mighty according to the power of His glory, to all endurance and long-suffering with joy.
Colossians 1:9-11 (Young)

Well, when I worked and was at school and witnessed the horrible nature of sin all around me...I kept my eyes on Jesus by..having my quiet time with him each morning...when I'm around others I don't engage with them if there is strife around...I learn to keep listening to God and not others opinions of me..I make an effort to do as Jesus did and just shine His light. be kind to others, don't complain about them...I remember Jesus saying when he was dying on the cross, 'Forgive them Father, they don't know what they do' and that's the attitude you need to take with others around you, they don't know what they are doing most of the time, because they don't really know God.
Therefore you can't let them influence you or get angry and frustrated cos they are in the wrong, it's God who ultimately needs to convict them in their hearts. And they need to know Jesus, so be praying for them everyday.
Its like Daniel living in King Nebuchadnezzars court. Follow his example.

Lanolin,
That was spoken very well !!
Thank You very much and like you were saying if Jesus could forgive them as He was still on the cross certainly we can forgive some one of their wrong doing as well.
Blessings my Friend

There is an old saying about idle hands and the devil...
The temptations you refer to are not limited to secular schools or even to schools. You will face them or others to varying degrees throught your life wherever you go.
Find work to do and glorify God with it. Manual labor is a great way to focus the mind and almost everyone can find something productive to do if they decide to.
Write out and memorize scripture...
Prepare a reasoned out response for if or when you are called on to respond to something...

It take time, a little effort, and a lot less worry, Brother.
