Definition of Grace

He loves us, because he made us. Why do you keep thinking we dont deserve this? He loves us in spite our sinful way, he knew we weak and needed Jesus. When we in Jesus, we accept his son, we like Jesus, therefore we as worthy as Jesus was.

When jesus at the last supper, saying this is my blood, the new covenant, and sharing the cup, did he ever say to the disciples, you dont deserve this? no way, even when Peter was acting like he didnt know him and asking silly questions.

It was Jesus offering his lifeblood to us. He wanted to wash our feet. PEter was the one who kept saying Lord, I dont deserve this, dont wash my feet. But Jesus sharply rebuked him. He loved Peter.
It was Judas who really didnt deserve anything, and he left before Jesus could wash his feet, cos he kNEW he wasnt worthy. Judas didnt even share with the last supper.

I rebuke all this unmerited favour nonsense. Jesus loves me. This I know, for the Bible tells me so.
Do not look on Jesus blood and think you not worthy. He loved you enough to save you didnt he?

God sees our puny acts of human righteousness and calls them filthy menstrual rags. We do not deserve His consideration, or His great mercy, but because He loves us so much, He has made a way for us to be reconciled to Him, and to be carriers of His righteousness. THAT is UNMERITED FAVOUR! God's grace!

That is what GRACE is, Lanolin. I rebuke anyone who denies that, who thinks somehow that she deserves God's favour and blessing apart from through Jesus Christ and His cleansing blood. Humility before Him is important in understanding this. It is only by Jesus' blood that we are made worthy. That again is God's grace---unearned favour from God.

I think we have to look to the bible to see Gods definition of grace and not to some church preachers trying to reword it and then start looking at the bible to try and start reasoning and then make it fit into our new definition.

I do feel sorry for people who constantly say they unworthy even though they say they saved. Thats like throwing Gods grace back and saying you dont really want it. Gods grace is sufficent. You dont have to add 'unmerited' to it.

Its kind of a false humility. yes Gods grace is amazing, cos it saved a wretch like me. But that means...I am no longer a wretch, I am seated in the heavenlies along with Jesus. That is the promise, and I hold onto His promises. Please dont beat yourself up now you received his grace. Jesus wants to wash your feet, dont ever say you unworthy and dont deserve his cleansing grace.

Saying grace is unmerited is nothing like throwing the gift of salvation back and not wanting it...

Even though we are saved, does not make us deserving of anything. yes, Jesus loves us, but that does not make us deserving of it. To be deserving of something means we had to do something. Which we didn't, it was all God.

He said it cost a lot of money, and she should have sold it and given it to the poor (did he mean himself? Who knows) he prolly thought Jesus didnt deserve to be treated and pampered.

I'm not saying I'd say no, and I agree that saying no to such a gift is proud.

But saying it is unmerited is different, to say we don't deserve it is to acknowledge that we aren't righteous, but we will still take that gift.

Jesus said how beautiful are the feet that bring the gospel.
I bet he received the best pedicure from Mary that a man ever got.

maybe its a guy thing. us women arent nearly as worried or concerned about being pampered. Im hoping you dont treat your mothers like this on mothers day saying your gifts are unmerited favours.

I never say I am unworthy because now because of God's grace or unearned favour, He has made me worthy. Do you get that?

Unmerited only means (for the umpteenth time) that we cannot do one single thing to earn God's grace.

Ephesians 2:8-9
God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.

This exactly what we have been saying. You have done nothing to deserve God's saving grace, being a wretch and all. The promise is that God will come into you and have fellowship with you freely because you believe in His provision of salvation in Jesus.

Its enough to say thanks to the Lord for his wonderful grace, not to beat yourself up and say you didnt deserve it.

When I give a gift to someone, and they say no, they didnt deserve it, I feel hurt by this. Worse is when I give a gift and they say I shouldnt have, and saved my money. I think I can take a hint.
All you need to say is thank you.
I wouldnt give anyone a gift if I didnt love them, or want to show my love.

I think thats the same with God, only difference is his gifts from above are the most precious that anyone could ever give, so to slight them by saying 'Its unmerited' is unecessary. he loved us enough to give, and he meant Jesus for everyone, all mankind, cos we originally made in his image, to even slightly suggest that God could have refused to send us Jesus is to slight on God. he had promised us Jesus right from the beginning, everyone had been looking for the Messiah. All throughout the bible the stories point to how much God loves us and is patient and wants us to accept Jesus.

All throughout the bible God is pointing to this sacrifice that is never enough unless it is through Jesus who was innocent. When the magi presented those gifts of frankincense, incense and myrrh to Jesus did his parents turn them away and say oh those gifts arent suitable for our boy, hes only a baby? I dont think so. I think they just accepted them, gratefully. I dont think they would have said, oh, no you shouldnt have, Jesus dont deserve this gold. He dont do anything to deserve all these riches.

Um..thats not the point. A gift isnt given cos you did something, its given for WHO you are.

No one is being self-deprecatiing when they admit they don;t deserve anything but hellfire without Jesus.

I should hope that people who know that they are nothing without Christ (even Jesus says apart from Him we can do nothing), would know that they do not hurt the heart of God when they make this humble admission. Without the unmerited favour of God toward us, we are lost.

Those who have experienced God's great forgiveness do need to be grateful and to express it regularly.

Philippians 4:6-7
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

There is no slight in describing God's grace and mercy as unmerited. You cannot do one single thing to deserve them. You are actually being resistant to truth, here, Lanolin.

Jesus' parents knew what they had in their possession---the Saviour of the world. They didn't exhibit false humility, and neither do any of us who marvel at God's grace, and are grateful for it, because we know we don't deserve it in the natural.

Well I'm thankful we can discuss the grace that came with Jesus Christ. If people still want to look a gift horse in the mouth, I can't stop them from believing that way.

Sorry, but you've got the wrong end of the stick, there. If you think that you can earn God's righteousness, then have at it.

As i read these quotes from you ....God has shown me that you have grasped ahold of the gift of righteousness (first quote) and are in a place where many people desire to be. Many people cannot accept that they are in right standing with the Father (because of the Blood of Jesus). They forget that it is a gift, and that what you stated in the first quote is how God looks at us all of the time (except when we are in sin)

The second quote (that i put stars before and after) shows me that you already know what the meaning of grace is. So you can now be at peace....and just keep growing in your relationship with God.
Blessings to you!
