Why do people say they are going to heaven or their dead loved ones are going to heaven?

Why do people say they are going to heaven or their dead loved ones are in heaven? Is there scripture to support that notion?

Christians say it because it is true. The whole basis of salvation is to repent, accept Jesus as your lord and savior, that his death on the cross covers our sins. That we live our life for God. With salvation, we are no longer condemned to hell, but to have eternal life with God, in heaven.

They say it because it comforts them, not necessarily because it is true. Honestly some Christians think the afterlife is easy to understand, but I think there is still sooooooooo much we don't know.

All I know is judgement day hasn't come yet, so to say anyone is in heaven or hell except those brought there directly by God is not scriptural in my opinion. Idk honestly, I don't think we are supposed to understand it all perfectly, but to just have faith in God instead. Who here can say they really know what's to come except God himself?

yes, Jesus did go back to his Father, our Father.
The dead sleep, but not all, like Moses is in heaven.
So God is partial with Moses? Partial = evil. God is not evil.

We have 2 Cor 5:8 from Paul but do we really need scripture that says we go to be with God? Is it not dead obvious?

If you paid a hefty ransom to ISIS to release your children that were going to get their heads chopped off, would you leave them waiting at the airport? God gave His life for us to be with Him....but will not pick us up at the airport?

What Scripture can an you post that tells us that there is such a thing as "the dead sleeping"?

There is no mention of the false idea of a “soul sleep.” When the Bible mentions that they slept with their fathers or they had fallen asleep, that meant that they were dead…but not gone (John 11:1-14).

What part of 2 Corth. 2:8 causes you such confusion??????
"We are confident I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord".

The best translation of that verse is "AT HOME WITH THE LORD" and personally I see nowhere in this text where there is a time differential between death and being in the presence of the Lord.

The verse is a contrast of being ahome in the body or being at home with the Lord.

My friend, the soul never dies. It is the soul of man that goes to be with God at death OR Satan depending on which location we choose to spend eternity.

What happens in the very next second or less after a person dies? The destination clearly depends upon whether a person has repented and trusted in Christ or whether they have rejected their only hope of eternal life (Acts 4:12; 16:30-31). Paul seemed certain that after he died he would be present with the Lord. To be present with someone obviously means that they would have to be with them.

Paul says to be absent from the body (dead) is in the next moment to be “present with the Lord.” In 2 Corinthians 5:6, 8 Paul wrote that, “We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord…and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.”

Luke23v
40But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence?
41We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”
42Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom. ”
43Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

Wow look at that, there is hope for me after all!
If the thief can follow Jesus to Paradise when he dies, then just maybe, I can go there too when I die?

But what on earth is Paradise?
On earth? Paradise is not on earth anymore, although there are rumours that it might soon be back here. Its present location however, is in the heavenly realm of God.

Heaven and earth were originally together, that is until Adam rebelled against God, who then threw him out, making the Garden (NT Paradise) an exclusion zone as far as mankind was concerned. And man is still excluded, except that the redeemed have access through God's grace.
The thief had absolutely nothing going for him, nothing to offer God of a good church going life, yet immediately he turned humbly to the Lord, that access was wide open.

I don't think that verse says what most think it does. If we go directly to heaven after we die, why is there a resurrection, and what about judgement day, when all will have to stand before God? Is our eternal destiny really in heaven, or is it in New Jerusalem on the New Earth? If we will spend eternity in heaven, why remake Earth at all? Just some questions that keep me from believing in a direct escape to heaven. As I said before, it's all confusing. 2 Cortinthians 2:8 is too vague.

There is a resurrection of the BODY, where we all receive the kind of bodies that Jesus has right now, so that we can operate in the flesh in the Millennial Kingdom on Earth. The final Kingdom of God IS on Earth---the New Earth---and encompasses the entire universe.

The Body of Christ doesn't stand in the final Judgment---that is for sinners---the second death.
