As children of the Most High God, we have our immortality now. We will change, but we shall never die.

John 11:25-26
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.26 And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

Correct, we shall live again at the first resurrection. Since we will die and be buried one day we are still considered mortal.

My physical, earthly body is mortal but I am not.

Well, you are mortal. Your soul, spirit and body are mortal. God will breathe the breath of life back into you at the first resurrection. Notice verse 4 says they came to life, meaning you were already dead.

Rev 20:4 NIV I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

Nope. My body is mortal, living on the average 70 years or so, but my soul and spirit lives forever and will go to God when my heart stops breathing.

Incorrect. The spirit is actually translated "wind" or "breath". I don't think we will be walking and talking as wind or breath in the third heaven. That's not scriptural.

Yes we surely will, as millions are doing right now.

No not really. We will actually be sleeping in Jesus until the first resurrection.

1 Thess 4:14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him

John 8:56
Your forefather Abraham was extremely happy at the hope and prospect of seeing My day (My incarnation); and he did see it and was delighted.

No one---righteous or otherwise---will be sleeping at any time. The term "sleeping" in scripture is a reference to physical death only.

Do you have scripture to back that up.

That's precisely what scripture is saying! "Sleep" is a metaphor for the state of physical death.

It seems you are promoting the doctrine of soul sleep, and for that, you need to provide your own scriptural support, and we'll see how that goes.

I submit that sleep does not mean a metaphor. There is no scripture that states otherwise. I see no reason to believe that death is any different in the NT than the OT...

Job 10:18-22 NIV “Why then did you bring me out of the womb? I wish I had died before any eye saw me. 19If only I had never come into being, or had been carried straight from the womb to the grave! 20Are not my few days almost over? Turn away from me so I can have a moment’s joy 21before I go to the place of no return, to the land of gloom and utter darkness, 22to the land of deepest night, of utter darkness and disorder, where even the light is like darkness.”
Job 14:10-15 NIV But a man dies and is laid low; he breathes his last and is no more. 11As the water of a lake dries up or a riverbed becomes parched and dry, 12so he lies down and does not rise; till the heavens are no more, people will not awake or be roused from their sleep. 13“If only you would hide me in the grave and conceal me till your anger has passed! If only you would set me a time and then remember me! 14If someone dies, will they live again? All the days of my hard service I will wait for my renewal to come. 15You will call and I will answer you; you will long for the creature your hands have made.
Psa 6:4-5 NIV Turn, Lord, and deliver me; save me because of your unfailing love. 5Among the dead no one proclaims your name. Who praises you from the grave?
Psa 30:9 NIV "What is gained if I am silenced, if I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it proclaim your faithfulness?
Psa 88:9-12 NIV my eyes are dim with grief. I call to you, Lord, every day; I spread out my hands to you. 10Do you show your wonders to the dead? Do their spirits rise up and praise you? 11Is your love declared in the grave, your faithfulness in Destruction ? 12Are your wonders known in the place of darkness, or your righteous deeds in the land of oblivion?
Eccl 9:5 NIV For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing; they have no further reward, and even their name is forgotten.
Isa 38:18 NIV For the grave cannot praise you, death cannot sing your praise; those who go down to the pit cannot hope for your faithfulness
Isa 53:12 NIV Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

We have conscious life promised to us as believers, despite physical death.

1 Thessalonians 5:10
Christ died for us so that, whether we are dead or alive when he returns, we can live with him forever.

Romans 14:9
Christ died and rose again for this very purpose—to be Lord both of the living and of the dead.

Luke 20:38
So he is the God of the living, not the dead, for they are all alive to him.”

The Greek words, "koimao" (Strongs #2837) means “to sleep, to fall asleep, or to die”, and "katheudo" (Strongs #2518) means “sleep or sleeping”. Both words are also used metaphorically for death.

We actually do not have immortality now. Immortality is given to us as a gift at the first resurrection. We as humans will all die one day.

Notice the word "deraon" is used to describe contempt and loathsome in Dan 12:2 and Isa 66:24. They are already dead, so unquenchable fire I believe is simply picture language.

I went over this scripture about 5-6 times with you. Are you not reading what I post. The definition of immortality is clear and only speaks to believers.

Hades is only used once in the Bible as hell fire, in Luke 16:19-31. The remainder of the Bible, Hades is the grave. I would submit that in that passage Jesus is alluding to something the Pharisees would have been familiar with. The Song of Moses was a description of how Israel would turn away from Him. In the parable of Lazarus and the Rich man I believe Jesus is speaking of the priesthood and their demise. Here is the passage I believe Jesus is alluding too. Hell in this passage of Deu 32 is Sheol. Because Sheol/Hades is the grave and Gehenna is the place of fire. I think the Pharisees would see the connection between Jesus' words and the Song of Moses...

Deut 32:18-22 YLT The Rock that begat thee thou forgettest, And neglectest God who formeth thee. 19And Jehovah seeth and despiseth — For the provocation of His sons and His daughters. 20And He saith: I hide My face from them, I see what [is] their latter end; For a froward generation [are] they, Sons in whom is no stedfastness. 21They have made Me zealous by ‘no-god,’ They made Me angry by their vanities; And I make them zealous by ‘no-people,’ By a foolish nation I make them angry. 22For a fire hath been kindled in Mine anger, And it burneth unto Sheol — the lowest, And consumeth earth and its increase, And setteth on fire foundations of mountains.

The Priesthood - I'm thinking that he used Hades instead of Gehenna or the Lake of Fire, so we would make the distinction between the priesthood in this life vs. the afterlife. If Luke used Gehenna or the Lake of Fire, then we would be certain he was referring to the afterlife, but he didn't. So we know he was simply telling a story about the demise of the priesthood and has nothing to do with the afterlife. Luke could of wrote it like this, but he didn't......

Example 1: Verse 22-23 “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23In Gehenna, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side.

Example 2: Verse 22-23 “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23In the Lake of Fire, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side.

Let's take a look at Luke 16:19 NIV “There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day.

1. Purple is a color which is used in Scripture for the following: priestly garments (Ex 39:2, 24, 29); royal apparel (Judges 8:26; Esther 8:15); and is synonymous with wealth in Rev 18:16.
2. Fine linen was used extensively in the priestly garments such as the ephod, robe, mitre, and bonnet. (Ex 39). Linen is used as a symbol of wealth in Rev 18:16.
3. Only one class in Israel was habitually clothed in purple and linen and fared sumptuously every day4 - the High Priestly class of Sadducees.

Yes I read it, I just do not agree with you on it.

You are using all kinds of words but you are missing the point. "The rich man was buried and IN HELL he lifted his eyes being IN TORMENTS".

That is his soul my brother and it is in pain. How clearer must that be????

One of the ancient doctrines concerning man is that at death he ceases to exist. The Sadducees of our Lord's day were materialists who denied the resurrection of the dead and who were the proponents of at least a part of the annihilationist theology of our day, and in more modern times the "Jehovah's Witnesses" are very strong advocates of annihilationism.

Why didn't Luke use Gehenna or the Lake of Fire in his story then?

Since spirits are considered breath and wind, how does breath and wind have a finger and tongue?

Yes, please share.
So, are you calling me out?:)
Tit 3:1. Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work,
Tit 3:2. to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people.

Jud 1:8. Yet in like manner these people also, relying on their dreams, defile the flesh, reject authority, and blaspheme the glorious ones.
Jud 1:9. But when the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, was disputing about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment, but said, "The Lord rebuke you."
Jud 1:10. But these people blaspheme all that they do not understand, and they are destroyed by all that they, like unreasoning animals, understand instinctively.
To hate Satan requires that it first be judged as worthy of hate.
So we best obey the word and not hate.

You guys seem to be flirting with a few forbidden topics.
The incident of Lazarus and the rich man is interesting, yet I have never yet read any comment on the fact that the only one crying out for water is that one rich man. If the traditional picture of hell was correct, I would expect that there would be lots and lots of anguished souls all crying out for some water. So, if it is just a parable, OK, but if it was a cameo of life in the pit then it is suggestive of eternal isolation (solitary confinement)...thoughts?

Ask him when you see him.

Well I think that was someone else who said that so don't ask me to qualify the statements.
The words used to describe spirit are the best our language has to offer. That ought not hobble the reality of a spirit in any way.

Someone else said that? Who? It's in Luke 16:24. Wind and breath is translated spirit in Hebrew and Greek. The Bible was written in Hebrew and Greek.

Luke 16:24 NIV So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’

Man is not a spirit, rather he has a spirit.
