God's Nature: The Love of God

Today, I decided to start a study of God's nature. I believe that the two parts of God's nature are the love of God and the justice of God. Today I learned about the love of God and got some awesome revelations about God's character by cross-reading 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 and 1 John 4:8.

Here are some of the things that I wrote:
["1 Corinthians 13:4-7
"Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
Doth not behave unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things."

Let's break this down piece by piece:
1. Charity suffereth long: longsuffering means patience.
2. is kind: to be kind is to want to do goof things for others and it means having gentle nature.
3. envieth not: it is not jealous
4. vaunteth not itself: does not brag or bring attention to itself
5. is not puffed up: same thing as "vaunteth not itself"
6. does not behave itself unseemly: is not inappropriate
7. seeketh not her own: is not selfish
8. is not easily provoked: is not quick to anger or become violent
9. thinketh no evil: does not have wicked thoughts, but pure and holy thoughts
10. Rejoiceth not in iniquity: does not celebrate evil
11. But rejoiceth in the truth: celebrates the truth and not evil. The truth is pure and holy and righteous.
12. Beareth all things: endures all things
13. believeth all things: has a firm religious faith
14. hopeth all things: trusts all things
15. endureth all things: to stay until the end
Please remember that all of these things describe love, or charity. The definition of charity has changed since the writing of the King James, but God's Word will never change.
These fifteen descriptions of love describe God, believe it or not.
1 John 4:8, "He that loveth not knoweth not God, for God is love."
What a revelation! Thank God that the sovereign Lord of the universe and beyond is Love and hatred or greed or bigotry! Anyway, as I said, those fifteen descriptions of love describe God, and here is what we can learn about God's character through these verses:

1. God is patient.
2. God is gentle and wants to help us.
3. God does not have human jealousy, but a "...godly jealousy..." (2 Corinthians 11:2).
4. God does not brag over what He does, even though He does the most amazing things.
5. God's behavior is always appropriate for the situation. He does not goof off.
6. God is not selfish.
7. God is not quick to anger or become violent.
8. God does not have any wicked thoughts ever.
9. God does not celebrate evil, but He celebrates the truth and righteousness.
10. God endures through all things.
11. He is strong in His "religious faith" or His doctrine. He follows His doctrine.
12. He is very trusting.
13. And God will stay to the very end.

All of these points reveal amazing things about God's nature! Next time, we will look at the other part of God's nature: His justice.]
Next time, I am going to study God's justice and try to get a much better overall concept of God's nature.

@Juk as i read all that you wrote, all i could think is how right you are that God is truly Awesome! And do you know why God can exhibit all of those things, and how we can to? It's all about walking in forgiveness. A person who forgives....does not know anything but Love.

great post by the way!

Blessings!

It's true. Since sin is part of everyday life, forgiveness should be as well. By forgiving, we are following God's example. And forgiving is one of the most important aspects to love. Maybe that is why the Bible says that love covers a multitude of sin.
