The Promises of God.

The Promises of God

Ephesians 1:2-3 KJV
(2)Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
(3) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all
spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

2 Peter 1:3-4 KJV
(3)According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness,
through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
(4) Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises:that by these ye might
be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

The Bible is filled with promises that our Lord has given us. These promises have already been
given unto us. The promises that we already have is where we get our "hope" from. The Apostle Paul said in the book of acts that he was on trial because of the hope of the promise... If God had not given unto us his promises, we would have no hope at all!!

Act 26:6
(6) And now I stand and am judged for the hope of the promise made of God unto our
fathers:

If I promised to give you $100.00, you immediately gain a hope to receive this money. You
want my promise to you to become fulfilled. As soon as you see this $100.00, my promise to you is
fulfilled. We must remember the only person who can fulfill God's promises is the one who promised
it. My wife nor anybody else can fulfill my promise to you except me! When a promise is given,
that promise binds that person who gave it to the person who received it. God is bound by his promises to us to fulfill it in our lives. The word “promise” means “to tell, declare. To proclaim as public announcements or decrees”. The Greek word also has a legal meaning “to summons” (to summon). A summons requires a person to appear at a particular place at a particular time. If you have ever had a traffic ticket, you know you have to sign your name to the bottom of your ticket were it says "promise to appear". For what purpose are we to appear before God? So we can receive the promise given us by God! If you want to receive the $100.00 I promised you, you will never see it until you come to me where I am at!

Heb 4:16
(16)Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

If you have any needs in your life, God has a promise that can fulfill it, only you have to come to
him to receive it. Before a promise is fulfilled in our Life we are only hoping for its fulfillment. But once we see what we have been hoping for, we are no longer hoping for it anymore.

God had to teach Abraham how to walk by faith, as he had no clue how faith works. The Lord began by telling Abram walk the length, and breath of the promise land, and then God said to him....

For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever. (Gen 13;15)

Abraham was now in a place to see what God promised him. As long as Abraham kept his eyes on this promise, he would receive what the Lord promised him. Later the Lord again told Abraham to look to the skies, and see all the stars, then God told him, “so shall thy seed be...” Abraham was now able to see another hope to fix his eyes upon.

Our hope in the promises of God given to us are not seen, and as long as we can not see them we will continue hoping for them, and never be able to receive the end of our promises, which is actually getting them.

Rom 8:24-25
(24) For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why
doth he yet hope for?

(25) But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it

Hope that is seen IS NOT HOPE!!! Why does a man hope for something he already sees? He
doesn't! He is no longer hoping because he sees his hope fulfilled! Notice verse 25. We are hoping for something we can not see, yet.

  1. But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
The Bible does not say hope is invisible, or that it can not be seen, but
it does say when you see it, you are no longer hoping for it. It changes from Hope into another kind of substance.

(24) For we are saved by hope: buthope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why
doth he yet hope for?

Heb 11:1
  1. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Once hope is seen, you are no longer hoping but now seeing it by faith!
Faith is the substance of things “hoped” for...... Hope can never bring to us what we are hoping for ,but “faith” can!! Faith always sees what it is hoping for. If we can not see it, we will never get it!

The Apostle Paul knew this and so he prayed for the the Church to “see the hope of God's calling”

Eph 1:15-18
(15)Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints,
(16)Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;
(17)That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
(18) The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

The Greek word in verse 18 “know” means, “to see”. The Apostle Paul prayed constantly to God
the Father to enlighten our eyes so we could SEE THE HOPE OF HIS CALLING!!!! When your eyes are enlightened you see something, that is the purpose of light is so we can see!!
People who are hoping in the promises of God are spiritually blind. They can
not see, they need to come to God to receive the promises he gave them, You have to see it to receive it! “if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.” It was never God's purpose for us to hope your entire life away! Hope always has a time in which it becomes fulfilled. Its in this life not after you die!!! Think about it, wouldn't that be dumb for someone to promise you something that you could never get in this life?

Pro 13:12

  1. Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is like a tree of life.”
We have a lot of sick people in the Church today because they have never seen there hope fulfilled.
Hope fulfilled is like eating from the tree of life, I will never be the same! The word “deferred”,
means, “postponed, delayed”. The only person who can delay the promises of God to be finished in my life is me! I have been summoned to appear before my Lord at a specific time to receive from him his promises made to me.

Eph 1:9-11
(9)Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:
(10) That in the dispensation of the fullness of time she might gather together in one all
things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:
(11) In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predesignated according to the
purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

We are living under the dispensation of the fullness of times. God is gathering all his saints into
one place, that is were he lives, Mt Zion, the city of the living God! This is were we are to come to
receive our inheritance from him!

2Co 1:18-20
(18)But as God is true, our word toward you was not yea and nay.
(19)For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus
and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea.
(20) For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God
by us.

We don't have worry if God would give us his promises today, as he has already said yes to all of
them! The Lord gets great pleasure in giving unto us His Kingdom. God's promises are fantastic, and He loves fulfilling them in our lives today, but fulfilling His promises to us is not his ultimate purpose for giving them. We read in 2 Peter chapter 1 this...

2Peter 1:3-4
(3)according as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who has called us to glory and virtue,
(4) through which He has given to us exceedingly great and precious promises,so that
by these you might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that
is in the world through lust.

How many times have you made a grocery list, and then you go to the store to purchase these items
and you always wind up buying more that you expected. The Lord has made it possible for us to come unto him to receive the fulfillment of his promises to us so we can see them fulfilled, and at the same time while we are there we should also pick up a few other goodies. Like partaking of his divine nature, which is the tree of life!!!
Notice, you can not partake of this, until “ you escape the corruption that is in the world.”
I like the Amplified Bible translation of this verse...

2Peter 1:4
(4) By means of these He has bestowed on us His precious and exceedingly great promises, so that through them you may escape [by flight] from the moral decay (rottenness and corruption) that is in the world because of covetousness (lust and greed), and become sharers (partakers) of the divine nature.

I will never be able to receive fulfillment of the promises from God or be able to partake of His
divine nature until I first fly away to where he in His Kingdom. Stand before my God and allow
him to give me my hearts desires (promises), and while I am there, to begin partaking of his divine
nature. There is no other way to get it. Jesus is the only way to the Father, who sits beyond the veil
enthroned in all His Glory waiting for you to come unto Him to receive your need. Not only did Abraham walk by faith in this way, but he also “confessed” what he saw by faith, that he truly was the father of many nations. God had to make sure Abraham did not mess up his faith by changing his name to reflect his faith. Abraham which means the father of many nations. Not only did Abraham see his seed by faith, he also confessed it..

Brother CCW Hello,
Very well said and a wonderful study.
Now are you thinking of taking this some place, I mean to keep this going or was it meant as a read only format ? If you are wanting to keep it going then lead the way brother...

Morning Brother Fish,
The thread is open for discussion. Just as God showed Abraham his hope, which was Abraham's faith, we to God shows us our hope by his Spirit, which becomes our faith. Faith does "see" it's hope that come from the promises of God or it's not faith.

1Co 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
1Co 2:10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

I guess the question would be are we seeing these things? If not, we are not paying attention.
We also must "confess" what we see, which sets in motion the course of nature to bring it to us.

Mar 11:24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

The believing (faith) part is not that we will get it someday, but that we already have it!

Yes, hope believes that you will get it someday in the future, where Faith believes it already has it.

I'm not sure if I misunderstood you so let me re-phrase...In my (biblical) hope I already know I have it....I have faith it is mine whenever, in God's timing, He provides it! My faith does not produce it. Faith is not a power that I do or do not have! It is a condition of my heart toward God (fully trusting Him who promised to also do it). So are we more or less in agreement? Or are you saying I get whatever I want by faithing?

Without faith we can not please God. Faith is not a condition of the heart, it is not a mental attitude, it is spiritual force that only comes from the Word of God. No Word, no faith! Jesus referred to it as a "servant" that is sent out, produces and then returns back to the one who sent it. No amount of hope will ever get you anything without faith.

Rom 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

2Co 4:13 We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;

Luk 17:6 And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.
Luk 17:7 But which of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say unto him by and by, when he is come from the field, Go and sit down to meat?
Luk 17:8 And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shalt eat and drink?
Luk 17:9 Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I trow not.

To live by or Walking by Faith is a life style to be lived 24-7-365
It is not something God gives a person when they need it.
It is not something a person decides to get when trouble comes.
FAITH is a life style intended to be walked continuously and constant the same day in and day out.

I put together some verses I'm dissecting so I can persuade my heart fully concerning faith; to put into practice to effect the world around me for His glory:

Heb 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Eph 3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

Col 2:3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Jas 1:6-7 6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. 7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

Ps 66:18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear [me]:

Rom 14:23 And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because [he eateth] not of faith: for whatsoever [is] not of faith is sin.

Heb 11:6 But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Heb 3:19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

Matt 18:19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

John 16:23-24 23 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give [it] you. 24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

2Cor 1:20 For all the promises of God in him [are] yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

Heb 10:35-36 35 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. 36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

Mark 11:24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive [them], and ye shall have [them].

Since the Lord God is the only person who can "enlighten" the eyes of our heart so we can "see" our "hope" of Glory, which "hope" comes from the "promises" of God, I think we need to understand how God's promises are manifested to us in this physical world. The only "power" that can bring about this manifestation to us is the Glory of God, which Jesus gave us.

Eph 3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
Eph 3:21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

The Glory of God is the "power" the Lord uses to give us all things, and this "power" gives us more than we could ever ask or think!! This power is inside every born again Christian.
The only time the "power of the Glory" is working for us is when we have our "eyes" fixed on what we see by faith, and not on what our physical eyes are showing us.

2Co 4:17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;
2Co 4:18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

The seen is only temporary, and is subject to change by a "eternal weight of Glory" which is working for us while we are seeing our our hope of Glory, revealed to us by God!

Our only "work" as always been to just "believe" (have faith) and it has always been God's job to "do" what we believe him to do. Even Abraham fully understood this......

Rom 4:20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;
Rom 4:21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.

Php 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
