Ask & it shall be given?

I asked God to take away my bad habits
He said no
It is not for me to take away but for you to give up.

I asked God to let me meet my soulmate
He said no
Treat everyone with love and respect, and in time he/she will arrive.

I asked God to give me friends
He said no
Friends can't be given, you have to help others and be a friend unto them.

I asked God to grant me patience
He said no
Patience is not mine to grant, but for you to cultivate through your tribulations.

I asked God to make me believe in Him
He said no
You have an agency, exercise it.

I asked God to gift me with a child-like faith
He said no
Faith isn't given, it is purified through your trials.

I asked God to make me rich
He said no
But I will send my Son to you so that your life may be enriched.

I asked God to make me strong
He said no
You will learn to draw close to me in times of weakness.

I asked God to spare me from pains and sorrows
He said no
But you'll get through them and find others in similar situations whom you can help.

I asked God to give me happiness
He said no
I will bless you, but happiness is a choice.

I asked God to teach me to love and care for my neighbors
He smiled
With a twinkle in His eye he said, my child you're finally getting there.

Wow I really like this poem... its very real/ accurate.

We ask for so many things with our own preconceive expectations in mind...but get all confused when God answers....in his own way and time lol

alot of times its not what we expect.

I really relate to these lines;

**I asked God to let me meet my soulmate
He said no
Treat everyone with love and respect, and in time he/she will arrive.

**I asked God to give me friends

Thank you!! :) It's good to hear that it's relatable.. I wrote it while going through a rough patch..

I liked it.. Very nice, as long as someone does not try to build some theology out of it :D

Thanks.. i dont get how it's contradictory tho? I'd like for you to explain it if possible?

You know. Not all are bad, but some are very bad "IF" you are claiming God Really spoke to you and said, meaning God Contradicts his own Word. That is never going to happen.

You posted this in the Entertainment section. That means fiction could be involved.

Ravindran Liked it, I think it's OK.

I have been teaching faith for 17 years and speak in tongues with power and demonstration of the Spirit.

Let's say there is a person saved only 5 years, and wants to share their experiences on the forum. You really think it's fair or right someone who can quote the whole bible come and nit pick and shread what someone younger in the Lord shares?

It's not right.

The Ministery is to edify and build up. Not correct and tear down.

The Lord corrects me today for wrong thinking about the Word. I am in no place to fix what you thnk you got from the Lord.

The stronger you get though, the less you will be moved by emotion, and feelings. (If you grow up, some don't)

If it bugs you, take each line of the Poem and find a scripture to match.

For example, does tribulation cultivate patience?

Rom 5:4 says Tribulation "WORKS" "Excercises" Patience.
James 1:3 Tribulation Tries you faith, which Works your Patience.

So when bad things come up, it tries our faith in God. FAith only holds out to the end of our patience. The stronger the faith, the longer the patience.

Heb 6:12 kjva That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

2Th 1:4 kjva So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure:

You can't have patience, if you don't believe things are going to end well. Faith takes a stand and your patience is worked.

If Tribualtion cultivated patience, then every person on the planet would be patience.

Patience continues to do well, despite what is going on. We don't change, we don't act all sad, we don't get frustrated with God.

IN order to have patience, I have to believe something. It's called faith. Faith only comes from the hearing and by hearing the Word of God (Rom 10:17) God's word is increased inside us by the Lord. Jesus being the author and finisher of our faith, and God gives the increase.

2Th 3:13 kjva But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.

Gal 6:9 kjva And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

Waiting to reap good things (Law of seed time and harvest) tries faith, and works patience. If we give up, get weary and change our attitudes, get upset at God wondering what is taking so long............

WE DON'T REAP.

What happens if we don't have faith? Patience only last until our faith gives up.

Mar 4:17 kjva And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended.

No foundation, No root, your faith is only going to last so long. Because of the Word you are standing and believing on, Satan will show you many reasons why God is not helping or going to help. He has to get you to look at natural things, saying what God said can't be true.

Without foundation "Faith" people become offended (Greek Word for causing distrust, to cause to be displeased)

So, without that foundation, without faith, there is very little patience. Tribulation does not cultivate patience, because if it did many would make it, but they do not make it.

Time works patience, tries our faith, tries our trust in God. Jesus said without that foundation, people give up, and get upset at God.

I have things to do, be blessed.

First of all, thanks for taking time to respond. Secondly, this is purely a reflective piece on my journey - so I don't really see a point in needing someone to "okay" it, and I don't think that was his intention? My prerogative in this poem was simply to show my transition from a self-centred being (caring only about my needs and wants) to one who is more willing to consider others (in the last stanza) and just that.

Regardless of the years one has been in the ministry, I don't think we're meant to nitpick on what they say/mean/expect that they can quote scriptures verbatim, in a societally acceptable manner. I'm not trying to fight or be contentious, just pointing it out. I guess it'd be a good time then, to say that all my poems are reflections of what I've gone through, and there is/will not be claims that it is prophetic or revelatory in any manner.

Nope, we should not nitpick. It's the heart of the thing that is important. You were given what you asked, an example and good enough for me.

Be blessed.
