Blaming it on Satan

Why is it when I get into any kind of disagreement with a Christian of another stripe, I am eventually told that I have been "deceived by Satan"?

Discussion typically ends at that point - they've decided I'm a puppet or pawn of Satan, logic and reason and a meeting of minds go out the window. It's Satan. Almost every time! Why?

People tend to give satan too much credit...his big sin is asserting his own lordship disregarding God, now granted most PEOPLE fall into this category, these denominational differences do not "disregard" God...there are three sources of anti-God sentiment not one...the world, the self, and the devil (each wants to be lord replacing God and deciding what is good and evil in their own eyes)...

When you feel the discussion heading down this road.... Stop. It's not edifying either You or Them anymore....

Remember the wise words of Paul: (Titus 3:9)
"But avoid foolish disputes, genealogies, contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and useless."

At least no one said you're being deceived by god. Jk jk seriously though I've noticed that there is a lot of bias toward more liberal christians. Which I find is not actually a good term because it implies they're loose with the bible. Sometimes people are just offended if you do not take their exact stance and then they feel self conscious about it.

IMO: Plus or minus, positive or negative, constructive or destructive…

I classify that as “destructive” criticism….

The constructive criticism is what Michael the archangel have said:

Jude 1:9King James Version (KJV)
9 Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.

then they feel self conscious about it.

On another perspective, if one’s doctrine is based on Jesus Christ teaching as a solid foundation.. it is immovable…

Parable of the Wise and the Foolish Builders

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parable_of_the_Wise_and_the_Foolish_Builders#Interpretation

Interpretation[edit]
This parable emphasises the need to put Jesus' teachings into practice, and speaks of "two sorts of people whose hearts are revealed in their actions."[1]
Matthew's version of the parable has a "more complex narrative structure"[2] than Luke's, mentioning rain and winds as well as floods. These forces are usually interpreted ethically, as trials of life that can be resisted by a life founded on Christian doctrine,[2] but can also be interpreted eschatologically.

The usual interpretation goes back to
John Chrysostom (c. 347–407), who wrote in his Homily 24 on Matthew:
By "rain" here, and "floods," and "winds," He is expressing metaphorically the calamities and afflictions that befall men; such as false accusations, plots, bereavements, deaths, loss of friends, vexations from strangers, all the ills in our life that any one could mention. "But to none of these," says He, "does such a soul give way; and the cause is, it is founded on the rock." He calls the steadfastness of His doctrine a rock; because in truth His commands are stronger than any rock, setting one above all the waves of human affairs. For he who keeps these things strictly, will not have the advantage of men only when they are vexing him, but even of the very devils plotting against him. And that it is not vain boasting so to speak, Job is our witness, who received all the assaults of the devil, and stood unmoveable; and the apostles too are our witnesses, for that when the waves of the whole world were beating against them, when both nations and princes, both their own people and strangers, both the evil spirits, and the devil, and every engine was set in motion, they stood firmer than a rock, and dispersed it all.
[3]

Matthew 7:24-27New King James Version (NKJV)
Build on the Rock
24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”

Can you cite such comments or are you dramatizing?
I ask this simply because you have enclosed the last phrase in speech marks which generally implies a direct quote.

You did not cite an instance.
I have conducted a forum search (not entirely exhaustive) and found nothing to support your claim.
I'm not up for an argument, I just would like evidence in support of your claim......is that unreasonable?

For heaven's sake Calvin, it was spoken to me. And I didn't save transcripts from the other occasions. It's entirely up to you if you want to believe I'm making it all up.

I'm tired of this as well. I know that similar statements have been made against me in the past and I've seen the same statements made against PeacelikeaRiver. It's a shame we can't just have civil discussion.

I don't get what your trying to say.... why would people say you're a pawn of Satan... that's extreme : /
That's the point of my post, it IS extreme. The way it's typically gone for me is I will make a point, then it gets refuted (usually with scripture), and I refute again using scripture as well if necessary. And when it's gone back and forth enough times with no resolution, I am accused of being deceived by Satan.

It's probably not so surprising, as we all want to align ourselves with God and His word. But it's a way of putting me in the doghouse, sort of the equivalent of running away with hands covering the ears.

If you don't mind me asking, when was the last time this happened? I recall a former member who has now been banned saying something along these lines.
