Ideas And Resources For Sunday School

Hi everyone!

I'm going to start my Catechist course in September and hopefully in 2016 I'll start giving Sunday school lessons.

I love teaching and I'm already looking for resources and ideas for my lessons. Android apps would be great, kids love technology and I have ten tablets that I could use in class.

I came across a series of videos called What's in the Bible. It's fun and the cartoons look good but it's too complicated for most kids.

Any tips?

Thanks in advance!

So to answer your question, I find prayer and meditation does the trick for me. :) Let the Holy Spirit teach you.

1 John 2:27 (KJV)
But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

Thank you very much for your welcome, I'm happy to be here. :)

And yes, I believe the Holy Spirit has guided me thus far and it is God's will that I teach these kids. I've been a teacher for the last five years and I can't wait to take on this new challenge.

So... There is some good training and some really good resources available....

One fruitful method is called the "Inductive Bible Study" - basically, the idea is to ask questions to get people thinking about what the Bible says.... RATHER than the "Expositional bible study" - which is where you stand there and tell them....

So.. For inductive bible studies - there are several good guides available to help walk you through the process.... These can work out very well in a Sunday school setting...

Here are 2...

There are more, though...

Your church may also have specific training available... If they do - take advantage of it.

Thanks

Flavio -- hello! I am new to this forum, and found your thread while searching for dialogue on the inductive Bible study method. I see these posts are nearly a year old . . . so what have you been teaching the youth in your course this past year?

My late father, Irving Jensen, authored a good number of inductive Bible studies--some are still available from Moody Press (& amazon, of course), but Logos is going to make many of the out-of-print titles available digitally this fall. There's one specifically you may be interested in: Independent Bible Study. In it, Dad (who was also a Bible professor at Bryan College in Tennessee) teaches how to create analytical charts using the inductive method of Bible study. I'll attach a sample chart (of over 200! that I've collected from former students). One student said, "This makes Bible study FUN!"

I'm praying that God will use Independent Bible Study to ignite in the hearts of believers a desire to dig deep into God's Word . . .
