Proof Of The Critical Necessity Of Doing God’s Will

The one who does God’s will

Matthew 7:21
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord’, shall enter the kingdom of heaven,
but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.”

The next 2 verses (22-23) are merely examples of those who did NOT do God’s will.
Jesus says to them:

“I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!”

The wise builder of his salvation (which is a life-long process)

Matthew 7:24-25
“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them,
I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock:
and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and
beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.”

The next 2 verses (26-27) shows the results of NOT doing Jesus’ sayings:
“And great was its fall.” … which was the foolish builder’s salvation!
Does this remind you of anyone else who fell away?
“believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away” (Luke 8, Matt 13, Mark 4)
“you have fallen from grace” (Gal 5:4)
“impossible … if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance” (Heb 6:6)
“lest anyone fall short of the grace of God” (Heb 12:15)

Okay, this is all very nice indeed!
“Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” (Ephesians 5:17)

Romans 12:2
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind,
that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

1 Thes 4:3-8
“For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality;
that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor,
not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God; that no one should take advantage
of and defraud his brother in this matter, because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we
also forewarned you and testified. For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness.
Therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit.”

1 Thes 5:16-22
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks;
for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies.
Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil.”

Hebrews 10:35-39
“Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. For you have need
of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise:
‘For yet a little while, and He who is coming will come and will not tarry.
Now the just shall live by faith; but if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.’

But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.”

This is a personal favorite of mine because it again shows Paul’s usual great optimism!
He always pours on the encouragements, the exhortations, the edifications, etc.
P.S. Paul has no idea how many of these Jewish Christians will make it through to the end.

1 Peter 4:1-3
“Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind,
for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, that he no longer should live the rest
of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God. For we have spent enough
of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles — when we walked in lewdness, lusts,
drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries.”

Lastly, we have a promise …
1 John 2:17
"And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.”

I would view doing God's will more of a description of a person who has been born of God rather than
viewing it in some kind of legalistic, salvation by works, sense of a necessity in order to be saved.
After all, it does say, "No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him;
he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God. This is how we know who the children of God are
and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God;
nor is anyone who does not love his brother." ,
thus a person's performance is an indicator rather than a cause of their salvation.
Yes, there are many indicators, or necessary proofs, such as practicing righteousness!
Thanks for shedding light on this: PROOFS are not the same as SALVATION NECESSITIES.
But, IMO, both say ... "If you're not doing them, you're not going to heaven!"

I think you might be a little late here in your thinking. When someone confesses Jesus Christ as their saviour they become born again and then God translates them into his Kingdom, where they are now citizens of Heaven. This is not some future event, it takes place immediately!

Php 3:20 But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,

Col 1:12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.
Col 1:13 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son,

Eph 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places,

Eph 2:5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ--by grace you have been saved--
Eph 2:6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

Col 1:21 And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds,
Col 1:22 he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him,

Heb 12:22 But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering,

I think you might be a little late here in your thinking.
I think you might be a little unable to discern Paul's incredibly tactful writing style
... continually filled with edifications, exhortations, encouragements, hopefulness, etc.
... all the while sneaking in dire warnings of losing eternal life (for various reasons).
Those who are being led by God's Spirit have these warnings pointed out to them by Him.

Anyone who thinks that merely agreeing that Jesus is the Son of God somehow guarantees them a place in Heaven is deluded.
There is not a single demon or person in Hell who is not more aware of Christ's nature than we are.
You are supposed to obey Him, do what He says, otherwsie you are not His by any measure.

Everyone has eternal life. It's the destination where that eternity will be lived that is in question. We are warned about shipwrecking our faith, and about falling out of fellowship with God, but if we have truly received Jesus Christ and done more than give a mental assent to Him, and have invuted Him to live His life in us and through us, then we are His, lock, stock and barrel.

Sorry JJ, I didn't realize this was the Guns sub-forum.

I hope you do not mean the red literally
... because it indicates a one-time event.
IMO, this needs to be done somewhat regularly.
Please note that Rev. 3:20 was written to an entire church,
most of whom done did the red at least once in their lives already.
