Lust

I see folks who struggle with these issues (believers) and then I hear the error of there doctrines in regards to the gospel and how to walk in the truth and power of the Spirit. It don't surprise me at all that folks who don't understand true grace, but have been taught this mixture of law and grace, struggle with issues of lust. The strength of sin is the law! The law produces sinful lust and desires! Of course those who have not died to the law are going to have lust issues! They are in bondage to sin, because that's what the bible says...don't be surprised! Learn the true gospel and be set free from sin and lust!
Then what must I do? I want to be free from all unrighteousness.

Well do you believe the scriptures more than the tradition you have been taught?

Ro 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

Only when one dies to the law, do they die to the power that sin has over them. Its a renewal of the mind, not to tradition of a mixture of law and grace but to absolute confidence in Gods grace to overcome the flesh. "we are those who worship God in Spirit, and have NO CONFIDENCE in the flesh" Now I could teach you, but you like many others already seem to think you know the gospel when its clear you don't!

I'm willing to learn if it means my sinning stops

What you can learn my brother is the source of your sin and that "grace" is a Spirit that empowers us to overcome the flesh. Its not a magic show..its a knowledge that overcomes our flesh as we walk in the Spirit of grace. A process of believing Gods word above what your own mind and flesh are trying to witness to you... One question do you believe that the law produces sinful desires in our flesh, just as Paul teaches?

Well it reveals our sin, and exposes it. I know that's what he teaches in Romans 7

What do you think he means when he said the commandment produced in me all types of evil desires? That the strength of sin, is the law? If you cant be honest about the wretched condition of your flesh, you will not see the true purpose of the law and die to the law, through Christ.

Well I'm open to hear you teach. I havent even had a chance to reject it yet.
Meditate on ALL of Romans 7, and believe EVERY word (apart from your tradition) and the Holy Spirit will begin to teach you... But you have GOT TO believe the Word...all of it, and not explain away the parts that don't agree with your tradition. Then we can discuss it on this thread or in a PM or wherever you like? But the WORD must be believed!

Well I don't hold to any "traditions", it's just how I understand it. But okay, I'll read over it a couple times.

Well if for some reason you don't believe what it clearly says? It must be some tradition that is causing you to ignore and explain away the truth!

Okay so here is my situation.

I absolutely 100% am waiting for marriage. Meaning no dating, no masturbation, no nothing.... except, I struggle with lust.

I have long been a masturbator, and when I got converted I cut down, but never fully stopped. I stopped off and on for periods of months or weeks, and the last time I did it was 6 days ago. But the problem is that the Holy Spirit has convicted me it is sin, and everytime I do it I pretty much agree that I am going to hell for certain. I pray and cry, and ask for forgiveness. Then I quit doing it, but every day the lust comes and it comes strong. Masturbation is just so attractive to me, because I can look at any woman I want, and feel pleasure. But it's so dangerous and sinful, and I can't call myself a Christian if I do it.

So now I just need help staying away. The Bible says to walk and live by the spirit, but it's so hard when my mind is full of lust!

Is this a demon? Can it be exorcised?

Or am I just not a Christian? I know that is a ridiculous question, of course I am, but why am I so lustful?

I hope you bear with me on this. I don't drink alcohol, not because I'm against it, but because for me it's like drinking medicine. You cannot tempt me with alcohol. Now, put a chocolate chip cookie out there and I'll fight you for it (j/k). The point is, you cannot be tempted with that which you do not want. Women will never understand the power of a guy's visual stimulation. So what's the devil do? He puts every scantily clad girl out there on TV, internet, magazines (and I'm not talking porn here) but just in the supermarket. But here's the thing, and it works, put it all under the blood. Sounds too spiritual I know, but you are a spiritual being and with repentance and the power of the Blood of Jesus Christ. How? Repentance is to change one's mind and you've already done that because of the condemnation you feel. Now you just have to put the repentance into practice.

Do this practical exercise: take any magazine page and put it on a wall. Get some red paint and paint over it until you cannot read the page. Now that you have this visual process in your mind, recall every inappropriate image you can remember and paint over it in your mind - the "paint" being the Blood of Jesus. Claim in the Name of Jesus to be gone. This will work if you believe. Here's why it works.

All throughout the scriptures the word says to guard against your thoughts. Jesus said this:

Matthew 5:28 (KJV)
But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

Jesus equates the sin of adultery with looking on a woman with lust. How so? Well, you see a pretty girl, and in an instance, your MIND is racing scenarios of what she might look like nude, or in compromising positions. This is done on the movie screen of your mind. This causes all kinds of physical reactions, hormonal increases, releasing addictive endorphins ... These fantasies rewire your brain so that you can produce these endorphins every time you fantasize and because of that you become more addictive, creating a vicious circle of sin, condemnation, frustration, repentance, sin, condemnation, frustration, repentance, sin, condemnation, frustration, repentance... So why doesn't the repentance stick? We're not warring correctly. We can't do it in the flesh. Read this slowly:

2 Corinthians 10:3-6 (KJV)
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare [are] not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds) ; Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

Your strong-hold (and 99.9999999% of all guys) is this issue of lust in today's loose society. You must cast down imaginations and every high thought and bring it into captivity (through the blood of Jesus). And when, not if, when the temptations arise, you close your eyes, paint the Blood of Jesus over it and claim the power of His obedience. This is having an active mind and not a passive mind. An active mind is controlling the thoughts you have, focusing all the time on the task at hand. This is why the word says to meditate on the word day and night, why to have a song in your heart, praying without ceasing, they are ways to keep your mind active and focusing on Jesus. This is how you first, submit to God, and resist the devil.

James 4:7-8 (KJV)
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse [your] hands, [ye] sinners; and purify [your] hearts, [ye] double minded.

You're struggling, like we all do, because you've not dealt with this sin in your life, and until you do, you'll always remain in this vicious circle until you either win or surrender and stop trying, searing your conscience with a hot iron. So read these verses and learn what God is trying to say:

Philippians 4:7-9 (KJV)
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if [there be] any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.

The war you're going through is the same for everyone, some with alcohol, other with feelings of inadequacies and binging on ice cream until they're 300 lbs with diabetes. Everyone has a vice, and these tendencies are the meaning to this verse:

Exodus 34:7 (KJV)
Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear [the guilty]; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth [generation].

Since our parents didn't deal with their sins, the tendencies towards one or another are in our DNA, scientists have proven this. They've also proven that we can rewrite our DNA by doing just what the word of God says to do, have an active mind. Now this only works because you're a Christian through the Blood of Jesus. There are indeed benefits to the lost too, but they'll never overcome. So take comfort, it is indeed in your mind just like Paul says:

Romans 7:21-25 (KJV)
I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV)
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

I pray this helps, it did me :D that's why I know it works!

Repressing sexual thoughts is extremely unhealthy and very well documented, I would advise against it. If an institution advocates auch things then they are simply interested in asserting total control over people.

For goodness sake, just do some quick research to find out the damage it can do to you.
You can repress them, but, believe it or not the Scriptures do say, if you can't it's better to marry:

1 Corinthians 7:9 (KJV)
But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.

Its hard to advise marrying for that reason. It is a scripture though, and more of God's word that says sex out of marriage will destroy you.

Then what must I do? I want to be free from all unrighteousness.

Cosmicwaffle, the struggle against sin is a life time, and then some process. Sin shall not have dominion over you yet we still feel its tug in our flesh were sin resides. I think I read here you are only 16 years old, that would tell me you have not been saved very long. Christianity is like growing up physically. Sometimes toddlers fall many times before they are able to walk for long periods of time before they stumble again. All Christians sin, and if we think we don't the scripture tells us we are liars and the truth in not in us.

1Jn 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
1Jn 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1Jn 1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

Thank God if, and when we do miss the mark we can confess our sins to God and he will forgive us,and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Sanctification takes a long time coming. Learning to walk in the Spirit is the key to over coming sin. As you already know it does not time a long after thinking wrong thoughts that sin conceives in us. I am not talking days, or minutes, but a fraction of a second. Letting the mind of Christ that is in you to rule your thoughts will prevent other wrong actions, but this also takes time to learn. What you do not want to do is stop desiring righteousness for the Lord will guide you continually into his holiness.

Naturally this is an area where controversy abounds and there are many points of view on the subject. That being said, it is my opinion that masturbation is not necessarily wrong. To my knowledge there are no Bible verses that condemn it, although there are plenty that condemn lust. I believe that you can fantasize, just don't think about real women. Once again, this is merely my opinion, and I realize that many other believers will have very differing views.

One thing that I think that we can all agree upon is that you should pray about this alot, and see if you get pulled in one particular direction in the near future. I'll commit to praying for you dude, and if you want to talk, feel free to pm me any time! God bless.

I am wondering what one thinks about when committing such an act. I guarantee you it is not about cars, boats, or the internet. It will be about that which arouses men, "women", and if you lust after a women in your heart then you have already committed adultery with her. Thank God for his mercy and grace or all of us men would be in great danger. :)

Of course there's controversy. Supressing thoughts that come naturally is asking for trouble. Been proven time and time again and yet it still goes on. You try forcing another species to stop thinking about sexual reproduction and see where it gets you.

The most basic animal instinct is a sin? I despair sometimes.

We aren't animals Tubby. Stop believing lies.
