Are You Happy?

Hello guys, I'm new here, nice to meet you all :-D

Are you happy today? Do you want to be happy every day? Is happiness really a choice for us as Christians?

Do check out the uplifting Christian blog which I find it useful. It's http://dovephiloh.wordpress.com/ .

Hope that you can find reasons to be happy every day, whether it be splendid or gloomy from this blog.

1 Thessalonians 5: 16- 18- Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Some days we should mourn.

Moreover all these curses shall come upon thee, and shall pursue thee, and overtake thee, till thou be destroyed; because thou hearkenedst not unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded thee: And they shall be upon thee for a sign and for a wonder, and upon thy seed for ever. Because thou servedst not the LORD thy God with joyfulness, and with gladness of heart, for the abundance of all things;
(Deu 28:45-47)

You might want to rethink that.

If you mean as watching the lost be lost. One thing that has helped me is to remember I am just a messenger and it's not my burden to bare. I can't heal, I can't change a family situation and I can't bring your dead kid back to life. I know someone that can though.

I actually let a situation like this effect my relationship with the Lord. It was a man with stage 6 (don't know how many stages that is for bad or good) Brain Cancer. He agreed with me that my Son was Healed of his Cancer in prayer. (I only let other Pastors and ministry workers agree, not pray for healing)

This guy stood up confidently in Church and said that He was healed and not going to die. That cancer should have killed him 6 months back according to the doctors and there was no cancer cells to be found after treatment and prayer.

The wife met him in a card shop and just asked how he was doing....... "Something we should avoid asking other believers unless directed" He had been hearing the doctors run on and on about remission........... and remission this and that. He said..... "I don't know if I am healed just yet."

Jesus said........ Believe that you receive then you shall have it......... Jesus did not say doubt you have it and hope it happens.

The whole church heard him say how he was going to live and how faithful God is, but it's those words in our heart that just come out that move mountains and set the course of the ship. The words come out of what we really believe.

Upon hearing it the Lord spoke to me, he said...... "(name of man) is coming home to me."

I got upset and said... NO, no, no Lord, I am going down to get our Pastor straighten out and our Pastor ought to know better than to teach unbelief...... I was mad.

Then the Lord said again to me...... "You will do no such thing, for I have not given you charge over your Pastor, nor do you have a place, but you will teach my people faith, for they do not understand how to trust me, and agree with me."

he died that month........

So did the small boy I was working with and believing his mom with for.

So did the women with cancer the Lord sent me to help..

It will get to you, but I am not the healer, or meant to carry any of the burden.

Luk 15:7 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

We rejoice over the one that made it, and thank the Lord for the victories we do get.

I see what you are saying, and don't disagree with any of your post except the part about rethinking. I thought about it, but I think I thought I think rethinking was not thinking thoughtfully, in my humble opinion beloved.

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted."

"Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn."

Again, I'm not really sure if we are in agreement. I always enjoy reading your thoughts on things. My thought is that mourning is a good thing at times, because we can clearly see how it has benefited various people throughout the bible. Mourning brings humbleness. Even Jesus wept.

"Jesus wept." John 11:35

Well, could you and I skip the step of having to "mourn" and instead be joyful for those that do? Granted it did say the mournful are blessed........... I understand, but having lots of joy and faith is a blessing to the mourners.

The thought of mourning with someone is not feeling the same sorrow, but in a respectful way. In other words it's not time to hand out party favors at someones funeral........... Unless they are happy their loved one is with Jesus........ but still.

We can use it like this.

2Co 1:4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

As you can see, I am against all forms of mourning, there would have to be a reason to mourn, and I can't think of any.

Not saying I know everything............. I just said I can't think of any. Then again, if we never needed comfort...... How could we give the same back???

Ummmm.

I'll have to think on this one. I have a knee jerk response against all sorrow, fear and morning.

Blessings.

lol @ party favors at someones funeral.

I think mourning is very healthy. God puts us in situations sometimes that tests our faith and requires us to cry out to him. Job was a man of God, and God put him in a situation that tested his faith.

"Sorrow is better than laughter,
because a sad face is good for the heart."

"a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance"

"The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning,
but the heart of fools is in the house of pleasure."

"Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up."

ummm, your using scriptures................. OK.

I will go back and re-think this No mourning policy. The Joy of the Lord is our strength, so it all has to fit perfectly.

Thank you for pointing these things out :)

James 1 says consider it joy when we go through struggles. So now I'm curious, can we be joyful and mourn at the same time?

Well.............. Those scriptures you gave, had me think about the same question, and why I am at a pause.

I know I come off as right and sure which puts off some, and I do come off strong, but all someone has to do is point to me the scripture and not explain it in a crazy and unreasonable way when connecting it to other scriptures. It's better to be wrong about something, because you can't learn what you already know and are right about.

Now you did what few do, you pulled out some scriptures that I just have decided in the past they were for the weak and learning. However, going over it again, I need to reformulate with help from God on this.

Let's look at some things........

1) A broken and contrite heart is more precious to the Lord than someone sure and full of themselves.

2) The mourning Jesus spoke of, is not the same as what James is speaking of. There is a place of being new to the Word and mourning because of lack of knowledge which the Lord helps those. This mourning shows the Lord that you are willing to need him, from what I am reading.

3) It's not good to be joyful, when you should be "Mourning" As in not taking it serious. Paul had this issue when He had to judge the man sleeping with his fathers wife. All the rest were not even concerned about him doing this deed and still praying for him with joy as if He was not doing anything wrong. Paul stepped in and turned the man over to Satan for the destruction of his flesh.

Count it all Joy!!!
When the devil comes to pound us, we are told to count it all joy through tribulation. This would be a different perspective I "Think" than someone going through tribulation who did not know the Lord.

Also, I have to ask if Tribulation causes mourning? Mourning denotes more of a loss of something.

Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep.
(Luk 6:25)

Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
(Jas 4:9-10)

This passage here as in what Jesus said about mourning is having the lack of mourning indicates a lack of being humble before the Lord.

Mourning and humbling ourselves before the Lord, then "HE" lifts us up back to joy and laughing again.

Mourning really seems to be tied to being aware of your standing with God. Someone that is not serving God but going to church and acting as if all is OK, should instead be morning and seeing their wrong state, being afflicted inside, wanting to be right with God.

I should not be glad I bagged five good looking chic's in one day. Saying, yea Lord, you really blessed me today, woot!!! woot!! Instead I should be sorrowful that I did such an thing and repenting.

Joy and tribulation:

Tribulation tries our patience, faith and brings patience and experience, which produces hope that is unshakeable.

Looking back at David. The bear and the lion came to eat him and his sheep. David kicked their butt with the Lord's help. Now a few years later here comes Goliath and David through that experience says that God gave him the bear and the lion, what chance does someone have who does not even have a covenant with God and just a man at that?

Where everyone else was scared of Goliath, David's experience told him that it was nothing but a thing.

Still looking over all this........... It has to be right, and we have to define mourning the way God intended. If we are suppose to mourn all day, then bless God I am ditching the joy, if it's something else then we have to know that.

You can have tribulation but it not effect you like David who was confident because of his experience of past tribulation by which he gained experience and hope that Goliath was doomed.

I have circumstances in my life right now that could take down an ox, but because I choose to believe that all things work together for good to those who are called according to His purpose, I can lean on the Lord Jesus and receive His joy. His Spirit promises us the kind of joy that supersedes all circumstances. People can shake their heads at the peace I have in my situation, but I attribute it to the "peace that passes all understanding".

Philippians 4:7
Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Romans 8:28
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

Happiness is a fleeting emotion based on circumstances, so I can say that I am not happy with my situation, but over all, I maintain my joy in the Lord, trusting Him for a good outcome.

I don't agree with any of the scriptures being for "the weak and learning". The entire bible applies to everyone, to have certain scriptures directed to only specific individuals would make it a lie to others. In regards to mourning, it is human nature to mourn and helps people cope. I can't know if I am right, but after reading your post about so many people in your life dying, I think you might be emotionally traumatized and trying to protect yourself by blocking out the pain you have.

This is embarrassing because i'm basically disagreeing with my other posts, but maybe some people with enough faith and wisdom in God might not mourn over things that others would. But I still don't think mourning is wrong. The Bible has so many different interpretations that one verse can mean an entirely different thing to some people, but it doesn't mean their interpretation is wrong. Idk, well anyways, as you can see I am thinking about this topic just as much as everyone else, so yeah, I don't have the answer either, I only try to make sense of what I know and pray for the rest.

Happiness is based on the consequences of life. If every thing is going your way then you are happy, if not you become sad. On the other hand joy is based on who you belong to. It makes no difference whats happening in your life as Joy has no connection to that. The Joy of the Lord is our strength. Even in the mist of trying times joy never diminishes itself.

You hit the nail on the head CCW95A (y).

I am generally unhappy in this evil world. Nothing makes me happy except for my wife, babies and fellowship with my Christian family.
