Do I Need A Second Baptism?

Howdy!

I was baptized when I was a baby in a Lutheran church, however, I have also been hearing about the 'age of consent' to where God does not hold us accountable until we mature; somewhere around the age of 20 according to scripture. Do I need a second baptism as an adult?

There's nothing in the New Covenant with Jesus Christ or the New Testament, that says you must undertake baptism by immersion. Baptism is only a public display of acceptance and commitment to Jesus Christ. I was baptized (sprinkling water) as an infant in the Lutheran church and confirmed as a teenager. At age 40, I was baptized by immersion in a Baptist church. I struggled a bit beforehand, but wanted to show my love and commitment to Jesus Christ. Salvation though is not linked to any works, nor to baptism itself. However, a Christian is known and judged by his/her actions or 'fruit'. By the way, there are different interpretations of the 'age of consent', but I feel it is when a person understands their own sinful nature and feels the need to repent and accept Jesus into their heart. My youngest son was 8 years old when he took baptism.

Acts 19:3-5 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

These people were RE-Baptized.

It's not a "second baptism" if the 'first one' didn't account for anything...in my opinion.

I was baptized 3 times, the first time when my Aunt took me by the ear (Literally) and marched me down the Aisle to become a Christian.. I was 9 years old at that time... I was Baptized by Chinese Evangelist in the Wabash River between Il. and In.
It didn't work.....

I was baptized the 2nd time when my wife went forward to be saved and urged me to go with her.... That one didn't work either.

I was baptized the 3rd and REAL time in July 1966 when I was led to A saving Knowledge of the Lord by two Saints from the Church where my wife attended. That one was because Christ told his children to do it.. so I did....

Hey Brian I don't know if you are still viewing this thread, but here is my opinion.

As a baby you weren't really a believer, and being dunked in the water had no real affect on you or anyone else. If I was you I would get baptized, because now you are a fully aware Christian. This baptism will be conscious, and it will show others your faith in Jesus. When you are a baby, you don't really have faith, so it doesn't make sense in my opinion.

But follow God's word and the Holy Spirit on this issue, and you'll find the answer!

Of course I'm still watching this thread :)! Your response is appreciated and the HS is pushing me to become baptized once again. I agree, it is a great way to profess your love and faith for Christ. I am not attending church at the moment, but once I find one that I can finally settle down in, this will indeed take priority. Thanks again and God bless!

Where i have been going for the last few years they don't baptise babies or anyone not of an age to understand and declare their faith .Once someone is of a certain age ti accept Jesus as their Lord and Saviour then it's fine.

I'm glad you feel led by the HS to be baptised, i hope you find the right church for you soon and be baptised asap !

Hello Brian I hope you are well. First time posting with you so God bless you. Maybe I could share with you the doctrine of baptisms with your permission which might make it a little more clear?
