Ruth 3:1-5

Ruth 3:1-5
KJV(i)1 Then Naomi her mother in law said unto her, My daughter, shall I not seek rest for thee, that it may be well with thee? 2 And now is not Boaz of our kindred, with whose maidens thou wast? Behold, he winnoweth barley to night in the threshingfloor. 3 Wash thyself therefore, and anoint thee, and put thy raiment upon thee, and get thee down to the floor: but make not thyself known unto the man, until he shall have done eating and drinking. 4 And it shall be, when he lieth down, that thou shalt mark the place where he shall lie, and thou shalt go in, and uncover his feet, and lay thee down; and he will tell thee what thou shalt do. 5 And she said unto her, All that thou sayest unto me I will do.
NSB(i)1 Then Naomi her mother-in-law said to her: »My daughter, Should I try to find a secure home for you where you will be well treated? 2 »Boaz is of our kindred, with whose servant girls you have been. He winnows barley tonight in the threshing floor. 3 »Wash and perfume yourself and put on your best clothes. Go down to the floor. Make yourself known to the man after he is done eating and drinking. 4 »When he lies down, notice the place where he lies down. Go in, uncover his feet and lay down. He will tell you what you should do.« 5 Ruth said: »All that you say to me I will do.«

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

1 Naomi felt that it was her place to find her a new husband. The tradition was that they would marry a brother so they could care for them but, all her sons had died in which case a cousin would have the duty of fulfilling this role. Naomi did not have to do anything but she wanted to because she cared for Ruth.

2 Naomi knew that Boaz would be a very good provided for Ruth because of how he had treated her. Naomi had kept up with Boaz she may have been planning to her if Ruth and Boaz would wed.

3-4 Boaz must have worked a long night to have slept out on the threshing floor. What Naomi is asking Ruth to do is odd but is not intended to be sexually. This was to show that she wanted to marry Boaz. Women did not ask men to marry them or ask if they could marry them but this would show she wanted him as her husband.

5 This shows she was living as a Jewish woman now because if she had still lived as a Moabite she may have tricked him or seduced him so that he would be forced by the Jewish law to marry him.

1 Naomi was following the rule of the kinsman redeemer
2 Boaz; was different for he was the son of Solmon and Rahab
-- and Rahab was joined to these people from outside the children of Jacob
-- she was the one who hide the spies before they entered the promised land
-- on the journey to the promised land they had received the LAW
-- THIS HOWEVER ( with Ruth ) is a different lesson
5- she is a Moabite women ; just as Rahab descended from Ham
-- there's purpose to this fact
-- MATTHEW ONE shows us this with the four women whom it is said
-- whose mother was;
Tamar; Rahab; and soon we will see Ruth joining this group ( Bathsheba; will join later)

the verses Ruth ; 3: 1-5 do not finish the story
so I will only point out read the rest of Ruth
and for now consider who Boaz is ( son of Solmon and Rahab )
