Will I Reap What I Have Sown?

As a new Christian, there are still things that I have sown in my past. For example, before I was saved in April of 2013, I was obviously doing things and making decision that were mine alone and had nothing to do with what God wanted. However, since having been saved, will I reap what I have sown in the past or will God help me to now make it right since now live and make decisions for what He wants?

For example, I started going back to school for my doctorate in October of 2010 (and I’m still in school), 3 years before I was saved. Since this was my decision and not God’s, will I reap what I have sown from this or will God help guide me through the rest of this process even though it was not His will? Does anyone else have experience with this situation?

My brother,

Galatians 6:7 says........
"Be not deceived, God is not mocked, for whatsoever a man soweth that shall he also reap".

Will I pay for something I did 5 years ago??? Maybe, maybe not.

If you robbed a store and got away with it, you would be living in fear that any time the door bell rang, it could be the police.
That does not go away.

If you got a woman pregnant out of wed lock, that baby is still alive and belongs to you.

So in essence, we do pay for things we did in the past. But we do not have to allow the guilt to eat us up. That is why we come to Christ for the foregivness of sins and He says that He will toss them in the deepest part of the ocean never to be seen again.

What I seem to be hearing you say is that in light of what I have done in the past, the kind of family I want, where I can live and in light of what I want to be in terms of my career, I want to be able to serve God so is what I am doing the right thing to do?

If so, That is the kind of thinking which will reveal your motives rather quickly. In decision making, the place to start is measuring your decision against God's moral will. You must measure it against the principles of His Word and also against this penetrating question:.........."Is this the wise thing to do????"

God through His Word has demonstrated that if children of God are willing to be honest and to the best of their ability, do what He wants them to do, He will intervene if they make faulty decisions. God does not want us to make wrong choices my brother. He is interested in directing and guiding our lives providing wisdom for effective decision making.

If I was giving you advice, I would say to not worry about what color your socks are! That should not be an issue. My wife would argue that but not me. In life, we consider what matters. Who will you marry? Where will you live? Will we buy a home or reant an apartment? Will we have children? Should I continue in school ?

How do we find the answers to those hard questions...........Know the Scriptures! The Scriptures sift, purify, and clear up or thinking process so that we are able to think after God.

Another answer is to have friends in which you can seek wise counsel. Make sure however that they are Godly friends so that they can give Godly wisdom to you.

Bless you know and go out there and get it done brother!

"I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and[a]the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me." Galatians 2:20. If God held the decisions and sins of your former life against you, then would you be a new creation? Would He be living in you and you living by Him? Would your old self really be dead and done with - crucified?

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9. It's not really forgiveness (or removal of unrighteousness!) if He holds it against you what you did before you were saved.

There are of course consequences for the actions we do. And yes, if you steal from a store or if you have a broken relationship with someone because of your own actions, the consequences for these things (jail time, or a continued breach with that person) will happen. But if you move forward in the Lord - in His will - He will work out all things for your good! :) "28 And we know that [a]God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.29 For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren;30 and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified." Romans 8:28-30.

You may still have earthly consequences, like Major demonstrated in his post, but now that you are saved and walking in God's Spirit, he can turn what appears as bad consequences into good. Maybe you hurt someone, but with God he may make a great friendship out of the situation now. Or using Major's examples (I hope it is okay and I am in no way saying he agrees with my post, I am just using his examples), if someone had robbed a store and then got saved, if that person repents and went back to the store offering restitution, believing by faith that God will help them with the consequences, God may work out a miracle for the person, including forgiveness or some other thing to bring good to the situation (for example, maybe the person would be allowed to work to pay for the debt or if the owner of the store was unforgiving maybe the judges heart would then be the thing that God moved for you.

If an unsaved person had the child out of wedlock, and they repented, God could turn the people's lives around bringing all to knowing Him and causing a blessed marriage between the dad and mom.

You can't change the past, but you must do what you can now, obeying God in everything to fix the consequences of the past. If you know that your school path is not God's will now, are you willing to give everything to him and change your path? The truth is you will not have true fulfillment unless you do what God is calling you to do. This is not something we can reason out with our minds either. You can only discover this fulfillment by walking in his way, because then it is revealed to you as you go and you continuously have it because you are doing God's will for your life. There is only two choices. Trust God with everything, past, present, and future and obey his direction (and He knows what is best for you) or continue on your past (which in God's will is fine, but not in his will is more consequences). I believe Brian that you know what is right and I believe you will do the right thing.

Jesus paid the full price to redeem us from the curse of the Law. He bore on his body all sin (Being made sin) and all manner of sickness and effects of the curse for disobedience.

A big question I was asked while in prison by other inmates. If I am forgiven, then why do I have to stay in prison? Can't God get me out.

The answer is yes, God can get you out and I have seen God reduces sentence and grant release when people have been told there is no way possible to ever get out.

Here is the thing though, You can be free of the curse of the law and forgiven in prison. I walked in Gods favor and healing ability in my body and to help others in prison. I had divine favor with the guards in prison and they do things for me they would not for others.

This did not get the door open for me though to walk out of prison.

If you look at it though, the State of IL wanted to give me 18-90 years. My first plea offer was for 45 years.

I only did 21 months. (Another story about God doing the impossible and what I did to believe)

If you had a child out of wed lock, God can more than bless that situation and the kid.

If you committed crime in the past, keep your mouth shut. Not all crimes have a statue of limitation on them. So having 5 or so bodies hidden in the ground in the woods would be something you just never tell anyone about and never talk to police. It's your right.

The short of it, stay away from God's ministers of flame. (The Law) As I said, you can be forgiven in prison and walk in the blessing there also.

Things like contracting HIV are covered as being healed under the curse of the law even if gotten by sin, you will be fine from something like that.

Stay out of the court systems. Obey mans law.

Thank you all, that means a lot. The Lord has truly bless me by surrounding me with wonderful, knowledgeable people of His Word! This is something I will indeed meditate on and continue to pray about. You all bring up very good points, the biggest takeaway is asking forgiveness for doing what I wanted to do in the past and not what God wanted me to do. I feel I am already doing this through repentance, but I feel the need to let the Lord know that I am truly sorry. God bless you all!

Heb 10:2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.

And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me;
(Joh 16:8-9)

Brian, the Holy Spirit only convicts the World of one sin. Because they don't believe on Jesus. That is it.

Gal 3:22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
(Joh 3:18)

Stop repenting. We don't repent until we feel better, we repent by faith in that God is faithful and just to wash away all things that are not right standing with him.

righteousness, just means right standing.

Have no more sin conscience. Say your the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus and you always do what the Father says do. Say, "I always hear the Holy Spirit and a strangers voice I will not follow, I always respond and do what the Lord says do." Walking away from sin and doing what God directs my heart to do works out the best for me and my family. I do not want what the devil has, he can keep his death and sickness, I refuse to be condemned.

Be blessed.

Repentance in the bible is not talking about retaining a guilty feeling, it is speaking of turning away from sin toward God's will.

That makes more sense, thank you!

God will not hold anything against you because it is forgiven this does not mean there will not be results from man.

God does not hold grudges. I used to be horrible before coming to god. And he never gave me payback for those things, thank god!! I was afraid at one point because I knew what I have done. God is a forgiving god. Always hold in to the positive in any situation, not the negative. Yes some scriptures will say that you will get what you deserve. If you focus on that it will come to you if you focus on the positive, that will come to you. Always know that god is forgiving and loves you. Wants the best for you. He sees you change your heart and he will step right in and help you with everything.
