How Do We Properly Pray?

How do we properly pray for other people? Please share scripture to back up your response. Here is one verse.

Luke 11:2-4:

“Father, may your name be kept holy.
May your Kingdom come soon.
3 Give us each day the food we need,[b]
4 and forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin against us.
And don’t let us yield to temptation.[c]”

I believe this set of verses is saying that we need to keep God's name holy, and pray that we get to go to the kingdom soon. And that the "food" we receive is the "food" we need to get through each day. And if we do something bad, we will be forgiven. And do good, not bad.

There is no instruction except by example save in the case of what we call the Lord's prayer...

Posture in prayer and worship is not really an issue, and in the Bible we see posture as standing, kneeling, hands lifted, on one's face, etc.,

As to how we word our prayers, there is not specific instruction save what we call "the Lord's prayer"...and from this we see what is witnessed elsewhere even in the OT...we see recognition of who God is, admission of our need for Him, and calling to remembrance things He has done, also confession, pleas for deliverance, or the meeting of needs, etc.

Now one form of prayer appears to be simple worship with praise and thanks, etc. (ever just praise and worship our King for a long time and get lost in it? It is so beautiful...if not, try it sometime)..we know God's word does not return to Him void but SHALL perform that for which it was sent forth...so by all means pray God's own word back to Him

In Christ we are His children...so how would you approach your earthly dad or mom with a concern or a request? Do likewise...talk to Him as an intimate...as one who has all understanding and as one who has your very best interest in mind....also as a friend closer than a brother...

I've been reading scripture on how Christ was teaching the disciples how to pray. That's what I mean. Is Luke 11 the only place in the bible that Jesus teaches us about prayer ? If not, please show me.

Precisely the only place..so why did you ask Dana? Is this then the only prayer you pray? I certainly hope not. He tells us to pray His Kingdom will come, and His will will be done ON EARTH as it is in heaven (that we will all accept Him as Lord and do what He says)...and to pray our sins are forgiven AS WE FORGIVE...if we do not forgive others neither will our sins be forgiven...Matthew 6:15...and yes of course pray for our needs, giving Him all the glory...

Romans 8:26 "Likewise the Spirit also helps our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered." Real prayer happens in the Spirit. :)

Philippians 4:6 "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God." We can (and should) pray about anything and everything...with much thanksgiving as we remember always what our Awesome Lord has done for us! It is also a great anxiety reliever (check out the rest of Philippians 4).

1 Thessalonians 5:17 "Pray without ceasing." Always stay in touch with the Father!

1 John 5:14-15 "This is the confidence which we have [a]before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.15 And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him." Ask in the will of God and you will get (you know His will from His Spirit and His Word). Otherwise "You ask, and receive not, because you ask amiss, that you may consume it on your lusts." James 4:3.

1 Timothy 2:1-4 "First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men,2 for kings and all who are in [a]authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and [b]dignity.3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the [c]knowledge of the truth." It pleases God when we pray for the authorities ...that we might live peaceful and quiet lives totally in Him. :) And also pray for the salvation of the lost!

1 Timothy 2:8 "I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting." Obviously God doesn't want us to harbor doubt ("God can't really do this....in case this doesn't work out I have Plan B) when praying to Him. And He wants us to be a peace with Him and men before we pray....that we might lift up holy hands to Him without wrath....

James 5:16 "Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that you may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much." Praying for others is pretty huge (goes right in line with "love others above yourself). And confessing is part of prayer (1 John 1:9). And prayer - for the righteous child of God - WORKS! :)
