Nag Hammadi/ Gnosis Writings

Before I start... I wanted to say I have been always looked beyond our King James Version of the Bible seeking for knowledge in other written text, which is taboo in a lot of Christian beliefs. Right now I am reading the Nag Hammadi. Gnosis which mean knowledge. It is the lost knowledge of the early christian followers. Maybe giving more insight to the hidden mysteries to help cleanse my soul so that I may be a reflection of Christ and not a reflection of the world. I am careful and discern what is witnessing with my Spirit to be fact. Although we cannot understand the Spiritual side of things, since we are carnal, it helps me understand how accurate the words of Christ truly is.

Has anyone else read these lost books? Are there any believers out there that feel like they don't belong to the cookie cutter ways of modern day Chritianity? What I see and have read/researched is that Jesus came and died so that our sins may be forgiven, and that we are to walk according to his likeness and follow Him. To be a reflection. I also see that ALL has been fulfilled, even the book of Revelations that many think is yet to come. I see that many use the book of Revelation to strike fear in those who do not understand and lack the truth. To bring them in to a religious creed that can and is way off base of what the true gospel is. It leads the sheep away to be devoured by the false teachers/wolves.

There is only one path, one way that is straight and narrow.

True Christians have the heart of Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Anyone who is using the Bible to "strike fear" is not doing Gods work. Although, it is good to have a fear of God because He is so amazing and SO just and we are so not worthy.

I do not see the point of reading these books because I believe Gods word is complete.

Are the writings helping your walk with Christ? What are you learning?

Bless u friend :)

Question: is this OP is really promoting a book, or is it your personal war against more popular interpretation of Revelation…..

I think we are here more than to resolve mysteries….

1 Corinthians 13:2
And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith so that I could remove mountains, but have not charity, I am nothing.

Dear one, if you want to be a reflection of Christ, why would you need some secret knowledge to know the "how" of it when Christ the Light has already revealed it to us in His Word?

"I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunesa so that it will be even more fruitful. 3You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. 5“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples." John 15:1-8. (Glory to the LIFE, JESUS, that keeps us on the Narrow Path! Glory to the One, the Potter Who molds us into perfect reflections of Himself for His own glory and namesake! :) Sorry, just gotta get that in there - the Truth here is so freeing and inspires a new spurt of praise in me! Can't help but love our Lord!!!)

"And yet, O LORD, you are our Father. We are the clay, and you are the potter. We all are formed by your hand." Isaiah 64:8.

"For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live." Romans 8:13.

""I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me." Galatians 2:20

"28Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” 29Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.” John 6:28-29.

The ability to be all that Christ has called us to be comes from from Christ! "Now all glory to God Who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into His glorious presence without a single fault!" Jude 1:24. If the feat relies on our ability or our own understanding, then we would get the glory - not Him!

His Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. He - the Word - is all I need. He is all anyone needs! :) I am not afraid to trust Him at His Word! :)

What I meant by seeking for knowledge in other early christian writings is. There seems to be bits and pieces missing in the stories. Like the 40 days when Christ returned after the resurrection is a good example. The broader story of Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden. We can't see the big picture without having the whole stories.

I was asking about the lost books, not promoting a book. Asking if anyone has read them. I understand that we are to love all things, people, ourselves, and all of creation. I do that for the most part. The thing I find troubling is that believers are very mean spirited towards people like me.

I have read the majority of them and different translations of them ..
as a student of history, I find any writings of the common era that the author is unknown and it source of data unknown as questionable ..

for instance .. out of the Gospel of Thomas' (of the Nag Hammadi catche) 114 quotations of Jesus', only #99 is correct .. the rest are so jumbled, my opinion is the author must have been drunk or on drugs .. I also want to point to #114, which states a woman must be made into a man to have her soul saved .. if this is gnosis .. then the term is much broader then I thought ..

God Bless you ..

Sorry follower you said "It is the lost knowledge of the early christian followers." And in fact it is absolutely not. The exact opposite is true. Right from the very beginning the gnostics were regarded as a cult (rank heretics) and were NEVER NO NOT EVER considered just another group of early Christians until the very latest few centuries and only by those members of the so-called Critical School (like the Jesus Seminar) who strive continuously to undermine the Bible, and the Bible's Christ.

The Nag Hamadi writings are not "Christian writings" they are writings which borrow Christ and the Biblical terminologies to disguise their true intentions. Gnostocs never were and still are not in any way Christians...they do not have the Spirit of God and teach another Jesus and another gospel...

Seek and you will find...

First, I agree that when Christians deal with people - Christian and non-Christian - there ought not to be hostility. Biting off heads and dealing death blows (or injury without reason) with the tongue are not what Christ had in mind for interactions within His own Body.

I really do think you want to know Truth - and you are actively seeking it. That is good! But you are looking in the wrong place...

Matthew 7:7-13. “[c]Ask, and it will be given to you; [d]seek, and you will find; [e]knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or what man is there among you [f]who, when his son asks for a loaf, [g]will give him a stone? 10 Or [h]if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he? 11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!12 “In everything, therefore, [i]treat people the same way you want [j]them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets. 13 “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. 14 For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.

You see, the actual sources for Truth are quite limited. In fact there is only one source - Christ, the Narrow Gate ("I am the Gate..." John 10:9). He contains everything that we need to know. He said about Himself "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End." Revelation 22:13. The Bible is the Word and the Word is Christ (John 1). So seek, and you will find - all within Christ Jesus our Lord. "Jesus told him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me." John 14:6.

To seek outside of Christ the Word is to go into sources that are no longer Truth. Anything outside of Christ (our Truth and Light) is in darkness. You will not find wisdom or understanding in darkness.

And if you search in darkness for light...will you not just get lost?
