I Guess I'm A Prayer Warrior

I've tried to figure my way around in here, and I don't think I fit in. I think if I open my mouth to do anything but pray for others...well, it just won't fit.

So, if anyone needs prayer, I will be checking that board regularly. I really enjoy praying for others, so see you 'round there.

Hope everyone had a happy Easter.

Sincerely,

Ed

We all need prayer...

Our leaders,
Our military members,
Our Church leaders,
Our educators,
Our politicians,

Orphans, ailed, elderly, homeless, widows, prisoners, missionaries, ministers, and the martyrs who will be joining the Lord today...

The lost...

I need prayer for one things holding me back: my eating disorder. However, I would like you to elaborate more on how you don't "fit in". How could we (or even just myself) help with that?

I have a question about prayer. Why do we pray if ultimately God is only answering prayers that align with his will? Why does the bible tell us to pray and ask for things so that we will receive them, if ultimately we are never going to get them in the first place?

Wouldn't that mean that God isn't necessarily answering prayers but just allowing some of our prayers to occur because they are part of His will?

Tink- have you ever worked with children? As a parent, I can tell you that some of the things my daughter asks for are ridiculous, if not outrageous or just so far from what she needs at the moment. Now if I had the capability to produce a real live unicorn baby-I probably would, but then there's all the accessories that have to be purchased as well or I would have to rent space at the unicorn boarding farm...

Children don't have the same 'eyes' / perception as the Father...

I think when we pray, we are expected to have faith that the thing we are praying for will come to pass. I think we could have gone two ways as a "generation" of mankind once Jesus came and tought us about prayer and faith. We chose to go with science and technology rather than faith and spirituality. So, there isn't much faith in the world today--but there is a lot of technology.

I find it easier to have faith when I know other people are praying for me, too. So, we should pray for one another with whatever little amount of faith we have. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of good teachers out there teaching about faith. There are the charlatans, of course, but they're not really teaching faith--they're just convincing us to give them our money.

Thank you two, but I'm sorry...none of your explanations really answer my question. If God has His will, which will not change. It was there from day one. He knows what is going to happen. And if the answers to his prayers is always: No, Yes, and Not Now, then in essence he is never really answering our prayers, but having come true what is His will.

Please address this if you can. Thank you~

True and yes...my brother has 3 little ones and I worked at the YMCA with youngins for a while, so I definitely understand :) It still doesn't answer my question above. I rewrote it a bit so let me know if it can be tackled better. Thanks Dirty :)

I guess the point I was trying to make as this: we look at God's answering of prayer from the child's perspective-we cannot know all the future consequences or the divine reasoning why some prayers get answered immediately and some never. Also-we humans tend to over analyze everything and also take for granted the things that God does do.

EXAMPLE: I pray for peace to remain in this country (almost) daily-do I think God keeps us from entering a full police state because of my prayer? Not necessarily; but on the cumulative prayer of Christians country wide-YES!

EXAMPLE: When I prayed for my daughter to be returned home after her mother basically kidnapped her and went out of state against my wishes-I believe God made that happen-but I also had to WORK on my end (lawyer, court, etc...) AND I fasted and prayed much.

Do we expect God to answer ALL of our prayers-well, yes-in some form or fashion. But also consider this: MANY prayers go unanswered because God will not here them. So it is like no prayer has been offered.

Yes God has a plan / a purpose for us-but He also gave us free will, not a meal ticket...maybe that could lead you to your answer?

I don't think I can answer your question without gettting banned from this forum. I'm not a traditional Christian, and I think the rules here are pretty stringent when it comes to not discussing alternate doctrines. That's why I said I'll probably just stick around and check the prayer request forum.

Take care.

I call the following 'a prayer template'.

Matt 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Matt 6:10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Matt 6:11 Give us this day our daily bread.
Matt 6:12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
Matt 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. Kjv.

Our Father which art in heaven. Mr Postman, please deliver the following to the Throne Room in heaven

Hallowed be thy name. Father, how it must grieve your heart, the way your great name is blasphemed and used as a hissing. I truly long to see your name spoken in deep respect and reverence.

Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Father I am eager to see your kingdom established here and for people including myself to be obedient to you, just as those in heaven obey your commands. But sadly, you are not always obeyed here.

Give us this day our daily bread. Father, please provide food and all my daily needs; both for me and for those around me.
I cannot petition you with selfishness, so I ask your blessings for those of my family and my neighbors too, indeed I pray for all who are in need this day.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. I confess Father that I do not always meet your righteous requirements. Please be forgiving of my failures and show me where I need to be forgiving of anyone I have failed to forgive as I ought, as would be pleasing to you.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. Father, there is much temptation for me to disobey you in this world. In the flesh, I am so weak and vulnerable. Teach me and strengthen me daily how to respond to those things that tempt me to stray from your perfect plan for my life. I am petitioning you Father because you alone are the great King, ruling over all your domain, filling it with your glory.

The prayer template given us by Jesus contains all that we need to pray effectively for all occasions, needs and wants.

Tink I think this does not directly answer your question because you are asking about 'sovereign will' versus 'permissive will'...yes?
Properly studied though...it does.

Calv, it does not. I am aware of the "prayer template" you speak of...this doesn't help me with why we pray for things if it wont happen anyway and isn't in His will. Why do we pray for healing on others if it possibly isn't the will of God (this is just an example)?

I am sure that most here will disagree with me, but here goes.
God's knowledge is absolute.
Our free will is absolute.
Though God's will has been determined from the dawn of time, the particulars have not. If it were not so, free will would be nonsense.
If God wants you to go to a particular city, it does not matter whether you go by bus, train, cab, or plane, as long as you get there.
One of my cousin's wives told me that when she was in her teens she prayed about who would be her husband. That week she had a dream where an angel appeared and showed her the boys that lived near and said "choose one, for they are all the same". She chose my cousin Larry. They have had a happy marriage, and one daughter. The point being that her choice of "which man" would not have changed the outcome in any dramatic way. God's will for her was a happy marriage and a daughter, which man fulfilled the need was up to her.
