Is Holy-week Biblical?

Well, I think as long as we celebrate in a 'Biblically sound and Holy nature' there is nothing wrong in celebrating our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As far as I know, it is not a sin to celebrate-but it is the manner in which we celebrate that usually gets us in trouble. Also-God/ Christ, throughout the Old and New Testaments tells us to 'remember' the things he has done.

Why not remember and celebrate in a acceptable fashion for our God and Savior? Also, consider this-God outlined feasts and festivals in the Old Testament as well as 'communion' in the New Testament. "do this in remembrance of Me" - Jesus Christ

Sometimes traditions, culture, and 'religion' (rituals) can lead us astray from the true intent of our celebrations-this is something we should always be mindful of in any celebration.

Luke 22:19

Luke 22:19

Do this in remembrance of me in I Cor. 11:24. It is not literal bread.

I Cor. 11:24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me."

Bread – Body of Christ
What is the Body of Christ?
Colossians I:18” And he is the head of the Body, the church, who is the beginning, the first born from the dead, that in all things He may have the preminenece

Blood of Christ- His sacrifices
Matthew 26:38 He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, n "O My Father, if it is possible, o let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, p not as I will, but as You will."

Sharing with the cup- sharing spiritually
Mark 10:39 They said to Him, "We are able." So Jesus said to them, f "You will indeed drink the cup that I drink, and with the baptism I am baptized with you will be baptized;

That we must also take
Phil 1:29 For to you r it has been granted on behalf of Christ, s not only to believe in Him, but also to t suffer for His sake,
Not just doing in a week but everyday.

t Then He said to them all, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross 2 daily, and follow Me.

Is Holy-week Biblical?
I do not believe that Holy Week is biblical.
I was raised by my mom in the Catholic church and left that faith and I now make the Bible the authority in my life.
People can take what it says in the bible an twist it into something that it isn't and call it tradition. I have experienced that when I was in the Catholic church. I respect the people that are Catholic as many of my family are, don't get me wrong. I just believe that if you compromise anything in the Bible it is the first step to apostasy and this is going to increase the closer we get to the Lords return. That's why it is so important to be teachable to God's truth even if we have a conception formed in advance of adequate knowledge from God's word. The problem is people are unwilling to change and in the end many will believe the lie. We need to trust in God with all our heart and lean not on our own understanding.

I'm a bit confused - isn't Holy Week based on the last week of Christ? If so, how could it not be biblical?

Yea, I guess the events that are celebrated during Holy Week are biblical but the calling for a week of services aren't. That would fall more under church traditions.

Is Biblical Week done by all sects of Chrisitanity?
I belong to a Bible church and we had a Friday service today that emphasized the words Jesus spoke on the Cross, "It is finished". Christ satisfied God's justice by dying for all to pay for the sins of the elect. These sins can never be punished again since that would violate God's justice.
We will have a Easter service which consist of a reading from the bible and sermon.

Silk <-------showing her ignorance again. What is a Bible Church?

And, I dunno why, but Friday always saddens me, somehow. The pain, the torture, and suffering for us. I know it is silly because the reason, of course, for all of it, is supreme. Then Sunday takes the storm and the clouds away.

We are digging into the realm of 'Protestant' verses 'Catholic' here-please tread lightly as the perspective difference can be rather heated...

As I said in my original post-is it a sin to celebrate our Lord, Savior, and God for all that he has done?

@Reanne- yes I understand very well the symbolic nature of the bread and wine. At the same time, Christ told us to 'eat his flesh and drink his blood'. We do this in two ways-spiritual by applying the Word to our hearts AND physically as a sign of faithfulness by participating in a symbolic "Lord's Supper". If we do the one without the other-it is just bread and 'wine'.

(John 6)

'Communion' should be taken soberly-reflecting (meditating/ remembering) on what God has done for us and seeking a closer relationship with Christ. It should not become ritualistic.

My personal opinion is, we should fast in some way in preparation of communion.

'be ye not only hearers of the Word, but doers....'

I had no intent to do a versus anything. I know the difference between Catholics and Protestants - I just did not know if all sects of Protestantism observed a "holy week". That is why I asked.

As to why shouldn't we celebrate? I think we should celebrate this, in some way, every day of the year.

Yes.
II Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

A Bible church is not a part of any denomination and takes the Bible as it's final authority. At our church we think that truth can stand examination. If it is said to be God's truth then we must be as a Berean and search the scripture. His word is precious because He is not a God of confusion. I've never like to be part of a church that has hierarchy because if the top officials of that denomination make a change that is unbiblical then the rest of the denomination has to follow to remain and that is compromise. Oh, well that's just me and how I follow God's call in my life.

Berk, I think I could join a church like you describe. :) Thanks for the reply

That's why we are "independent". :)
