What Would Jesus Do?

Jesus would "rebuke and reprove sin" even those of political parties, as he did with the Pharisees. Jesus would condemn all politicians who support abortion on demand, homosexual marriage, and robbing our children to pay for the excessive debt they continue to run up. He would reprove any Christian, who would identify with a political party that supports such abominations. He would rebuke the Church saying; you bunch of hypocrites, you tell your members to give Caesar his due, while you remain tax exempt. You should pay the tax, like I told Peter, then you will be free to prophesy against all sin, in season and out. But no, you say you need the tax break, so you can do good works. Liars, you can't serve God and mammon. Sell your stained glass windows, and precious ornaments, and your silk robes. Take that money and give it to the poor. It's your responsibility to care for the sick, the orphan, and the widow. But no, you leave this for the corrupt republicans and democrats in Washington to do.

Dave......I am pretty sure, no, I am positive that Jesus would make another whip and lay it on Jeremiah Right, Al Sharpton, Jessy Jackson, Lewis Ferrikahn, and clean out there dens of iniquity. I refuse to acknowledge these men with the diginity of uses the position of REV.

As for politics.......we as ministers of the gospel are to give out the gospel of Christ so that it will change men and then those men exacrt change on the nation. We are to allow the Holy Spirit in man to accomplish His good works through man.

It seems to me that the gospel has been compromised in the past 50 years or so and that is the reason we see so much indicision and lack of leadership around us. We as Christians have allowed a LIBERAL theology to dominate our thinking and our actions.

It is a teaching of.........Universal Salvation that says we will all be OK in the end. Anything that says the different, is labeled as "fire and brimstone" and tends to be ignored as to hard.

Hense we see the prosperity gospel and of course the rise of the prosperity preachers who are nothing more than "motivational speakers".

Hi Dave,

As Christians we should not say "what would Jesus do" because that leads to creating our own personal Jesus. What we should be saying is "What did Jesus do"? Jesus spoke and taught about pretty much everything we experience today so we have a benchmark to work against. Jesus created the church for a reason, not to just sit on a Sunday and play nice but to influence the world and bring the light of Christ into the world. We should be asking "What should the church be doing"? and to make it personal "what should I be doing". We need to take ownership of what Christ has empowered, authorised and taught us to do.

If we see the sins of the world taking place and we expect other Christians to get active and outspoken but it starts with us, we need as a collective body of Christ to stand up and speak out.

Jesus did drive the money changers out of the temple, and He did rebuke the people of power and influence among the Jews, he cited as negative examples the rich, powerful, and corrupt, though usually in general and not referring to specific individuals. The people in power both in religious and secular circles pretty much stayed in their positions and operated as they had always done.

It's interesting to me that his primary message to the people regarding the "powers that be" was "don't be like them." I don't see any encouragement from Him for His followers to form a coalition or political movement and displace the powers that be. He simply instructed His followers in the faith and He, they, and the Holy Spirit moved on and became the Church. Should we continue to expend our energy "fighting" those who have taken the Church off message, or should we focus on the things Jesus taught us to do and be and follow where the Holy Spirit is going?

We do have a participatory government - most of our membership, not all - so we have a certain responsibility in that regard, and our faith ought to guide our participation, but are we participating in the Spirit of Christ, or are we fighting for power and control?

I disagree kevin, our entire lives should be centered around the question of what would Jesus do. But you do bring out a good point-many christians do take this question, and twist it, to mean what do we think Jesus do, and that does lead to making our "own" personal Jesus, and its something that a lot of people, including me, have been guilty of at one point or another. We need to, when asking that question, not only ask ourselves, what would Jesus do, but get into scripture, and find out exactly what Jesus would do-not what we think He would do, but what He WOULD do, and try to follow that. We need to be able to discern the difference, as well.

Hi Patriot,

Jesus finished His earthly ministry before He ascended into heaven, leaving the church behind to proclaim the kingdom of God. Many people get into the habit of saying "What would Jesus Do?" instead of saying " I read scripture, I pray, I know what Jesus wants me to do". It is taking a passive response to an active response.

Jesus taught us how to respind to the world, we dont need to guess "what would Jesus do" but we need to respond to what Jesus taught us to do.

Gentlemen............If we want to know what God would do in any situation, look to what Jesus DID in His eartly ministry and you will have the answer of WWJD?

I believe He would do the speed limit myself!

I am going nuts with people who pull out in front of me, causing me to hit the brakes and then they go about 20 miles an hour in a 55 mile per hour zone!!!!!

Hi, folks. I’m new here and thought I’d jump in on this one with a simple observation.

I believe Kevin is right on target when he says that asking what would Jesus do leads to people creating their own personal version of Jesus. Some people believe that all Jesus preached was love and compassion, so when confronted with an issue like “should homosexuals marry” these people say, “Of course—Jesus loves everyone and wants them to be happy.”

“By this it may be seen who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not do right is not of God.” (1 John 3:10)

Sometimes there is less ambiguity involved if one instead asks, “What would Satan do?”

Well in all what if scenarios - what if the United States repented and started living right, one person at a time?

I like the 'What did Jesus Do' approach because it forces us bring to remembrance that we are saved from our own sin daily. If EVERYONE was living right, where would our nation be today? Definitely not where it is now.

I think the overall mantra of the Christian Soldier should be: "Do you know Jesus loves you?" If not us, who? Is there not a cause? Have we efficiently conveyed the message of the Cross to the lost?

Is it the fault of the unbeliever to gravitate towards sin? Or are they lacking an example? I know that I am saved; and yet I find myself orbiting sin. The difference is my heart is somewhere else-even in sin.

I think all of us here can 'Talk the Talk' but are we 'Walking the Walk'? I know I fail miserably.

"Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." whether they want to hear it or not.

I have to remind myself to: "be angry and sin not" and "vengeance" is the Lord's. So more importantly to the Lost: "What will Jesus do?"

My apologies for the rambling-ignore the man behind the curtain...

Hi, DRS. You said, "Is it the fault of the unbeliever to gravitate towards sin? Or are they lacking an example? I know that I am saved; and yet I find myself orbiting sin. The difference is my heart is somewhere else-even in sin.

"I think all of us here can 'Talk the Talk' but are we 'Walking the Walk'? I know I fail miserably."

I like the way Paul put it, "Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I that do it, but sin which dwells within me. So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God, in my inmost self, but I see in my members another law at war with the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin which dwells in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I of myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin. (Romans 7:20-25 RSV)
