Tattoos that point to God?

Hello I believe it is not wrong to get a tattoo. I am still young but I am planning on getting a "Jesus tat" i beleive it is ok because Jesus may have a tattoo "On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords." Revelation 19:16 so i would like to know wat everybody beleives about this thank you in advance

I don't have any axe to grind on tattoos. You will find a wide range of views on the subject as I am sure you are aware. Tattoo or no, our best witness and testimony is our lives. I have seen many people wearing cross necklaces whose lives dishonor Jesus, and we all have probably been cut off in traffic by a car with a Jesus bumper sticker at some time. Live a life which honors God and people will take notice, with or without a tattoo.

Yeah I think it depends on the tat that a person would get, as long as it's not ungodly and you have a clean conscience about getting it then I don't think it's wrong. The Bible says "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." 1 Cor. 10:31 If we can eat and drink to the glory of God then I believe getting a Godly tattoo can bring God glory also.
I have heard of people who got tattoos and then wanted to do mission work in other countries and come to find out some of those cultures view tattoos as something evil, that's the only drawback I've ever heard of though.

I have several but I usually recommend against it. Too many people still judge. Christians often view them badly, and even those that accept them, if they see a "Christian" tattoo, they will be judging your actions and applying them to their perception of all of Christianity.

My parents say no but they seem to at least understand that when i am 18 i will be my own person however i'm supposed to honor my father and mother so.....i need some way to convince them i have tons of reasons why it is acceptable so if i could help on that thx for the support

I think it's a good idea to "chill" until you are 18. You may very well think very differently about tattoos in general, or the specific tattoos you may wish to have, by that time. You may even find that your desire for a tattoo was a passing fancy. One's values, ideals, goals, interests, etc. change and develop rapidly during the teen years and your perspective may be completely different in the next several years.

If, when you turn 18, you still decide to get a tattoo, you can still honor your parents by having given full, thoughtful consideration to their objections. When they discover that a tattoo doesn't fundamentally change who you are, and (assuming) that it isn't symbolic of a rebellion against the values they have taught you, they will probably come to terms with it. As an adult, you will doubtless make many decisions your parents wouldn't entirely agree with and all parties involved have to come to terms with that in some way. But it is good to wait until that time (adulthood) to make and act upon those decisions.

One of the big problems with tattoos is that, if you decide at some point that you don't like your tattoo or wish you didn't have one at all, they aren't easily removed. Since it is a decision with long-term (usually life-long) implications, it is wise to give it plenty of time and thought.

Hmmmm....maybe I should get a US Postal Service emblem tattooed on my bicep. Naaahhh, the logo changes slightly every so many years, and it'll just make me look even more out-dated than I already do.:D

You will never be your own man even when you are 18. The lord Jesus wants to have a say in what you do to the body, the temple of the Holy Spirit. There are many different views on what the word of God says about tatoos.God is not the authour of this confusion.
When Iam faced with this kind of a dilema I usually spend time in prayer and reading the word of God until I know what to do in my spirit.
You will have to hear from God weather you should have a tatoo or not.

Take good the good advice given by banareth, for it might do more harm in witnessing than good.Refer to the advice given by Paul on our actions that are controversial:

1Co 8:13

So if I hurt one of the Lord's followers by what I eat, I will never eat meat as long as I live.

If One person who is the Lords folower, is hurt if you have a tatoo then it is best to crucify your desire to wear tatoos. The bible says no believer lives unto himslef. All our actions like these need to be based on how they will affect other weak believers.

In regaurds to the coment about 1Co 8:13, I think that no matter what you do or who you are/ portray yourself to be, a fellow believer or not , they might be hurt by something you say or do anyway. Only because we're not perfect and poeple can clash. I like the idea behind that verse though. That being said I still agree you should pray about it. Also keep in mind that it doesn't matter how much older you get, you can still change your mind about a lot of things. I thought about getting a tatoo for a long time and still think about it from time to time but because I spend so much time thinking about it, in the back of my mind I think I'll probly never do it lol! I know exactly what I would get too but I probly won't do it. I'd get a dove flying & carrying an open tatterd scroll with my fav verse in it. All in the sepia shade. nice, eh? lol!
Another good thing to think about is where you'd get it and what it might look like when your 85 years old. :p

What does God say? .... We should always seek His Word and Him in prayer before we do anything ....

WHAT ABOUT LEVITICUS 19:28?

Leviticus 19:28 is the Christian (or so-called Christian?) tattooist and tattoo-bearer's worst nightmare. The Lord plainly, clearly, strongly, and without a doubt – condemns the tattoo.
Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.
Leviticus 19:28
Could that be any more clear?

"Ye shall not. . .print any marks upon you. . ."

Simple. . . Straightforward. . .Settled. . .
God Said It. . . I Believe It. . . That Settles It. . .
Right. . .?

Not hardly. . .
The clear statement from the word of God does not settle anything for this generation of disobedient, carnal, worldy, tolerant, non-judgmental, Christians. Rather than obey God, they run miles and miles and miles to "justify" their open disobedience to the Word of God.

How do they get around Leviticus 19:28?

Clearly, there it is. "Ye shall not. . .print any marks upon you. . ."
A lot of Christians when confronted with Leviticus 19:28, scream, "Hey dude, that’s not for today. Man, that’s the Old Testament. I’m under the New Testament".

Did you know that "bestiality" (sicko, perverted, sex with an animal) was ONLY forbidden in the Old Testament Levitical Law? Only in Leviticus 18:23 and Leviticus 20:15-16. Dude, only in the Old Testament Law. Does that mean a Holy God NOW – under the New Testament, approves of bestiality?

By the way, have you ever read Leviticus 19:29? The verse immediately AFTER the "it’s not for me" Leviticus 19:28?
Do not prostitute thy daughter, to cause her to be a whore; lest the land fall to whoredom, and the land become full of wickedness.
Leviticus 19:29
This is the only place in the Bible that God directly forbids someone to prostitute their daughter. And since, it’s ONLY in the Old Testament Levitical Law (and "hey, dude, we’re NOT under the law") – it MUST be ok by the Lord for a parent to cause their daughter to prostitute.
Same sick, perverted, wicked, line of reasoning as the "it’s ONLY in the Old Testament-tattoo-bearer-wearer". Same reasoning. . . Same disobedience. . . Same perversion of the Word of God.
There are many other "moral laws’ that are ONLY forbidden in the Old Testament, such as the human sacrifice of children. No where in the New Testament is this forbidden. Does that mean that NOW under the New Testament, God Almighty endorses throwing babies into the fire as a human sacrifice?

And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD.
Leviticus 18:21
Matthew Henry’s Commentary at the beginning of Leviticus 19 explains that most of Leviticus 19 (such as verse 19:28) are moral commandments that applies not only for Israel but for the New Testament Christian today.

"Some ceremonial precepts there are in this chapter, but most of them are moral. . . Most of these precepts are binding on us, for they are expositions of most of the ten commandments."
(Matthew Henry’s Commentary on the Whole Bible, Leviticus 19:28)

I judge no one who already has a tattoo, for what God has washed clean is clean indeed. On the other hand if you don't have one, don't get one. Most tattoos start to look tacky after about 10 years, when they start to fade. If you must get a tattoo, get a non permanent one. They are much cheaper to remove if you change your mind...lol

Forgiven Wretch, aren't u kinda ignoring part of this verse in LEVITICUS 19:28 though? It says Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead. Maybe I'll have to read up more on this but it doesn't sound like He's condeming all tatoos. To me it sounds like He's saying don't mark yourself for those who've passed on. Maybe even to say "Live for me, the Lord, not the dead" Thats just my 2 cents.

There must be some deeper meaning that I don't yet understand. I just know God loves you weather or not you have tatoos &/or piercings.

Faith, yes He does, but He does not always love the things we do.

"What does the Bible say about tattoos / body piercings?"

Answer:
The Old Testament law commanded the Israelites, “Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD” (Leviticus 19:28). So, even though believers today are not under the Old Testament law (Romans 10:4; Galatians 3:23-25; Ephesians 2:15), the fact that there was a command against tattoos should raise some questions. The New Testament does not say anything about whether or not a believer should get a tattoo.

In relation to tattoos and body piercings, a good test is to determine whether we can honestly, in good conscience, ask God to bless and use that particular activity for His own good purposes. “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31). The New Testament does not command against tattoos or body piercings, but it also does not give us any reason to believe God would have us get tattoos or body piercings.

An important scriptural principle on issues the Bible does not specifically address is if there is room for doubt whether it pleases God, then it is best not to engage in that activity. Romans 14:23 reminds us that anything that does not come from faith is sin. We need to remember that our bodies, as well as our souls, have been redeemed and belong to God. Although 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 does not directly apply to tattoos or body piercings, it does give us a principle: “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.” This great truth should have a real bearing on what we do and where we go with our bodies. If our bodies belong to God, we should make sure we have His clear “permission” before we “mark them up” with tattoos or body piercings.

Here's some food for thought: wouldn't it be just as effective, less problematic, and less painful to get some t-shirts with Christian messages and images on them and wear them? Then you could frequently vary your message, could still be a bold, highly visible witness, and would have more choices as to when, where, and how you displayed your message. I guess a key question is, what will a tattoo do for you (or for God) that other means of bearing witness won't?

Our bodies do not belong to ourselves but to God.

1Co 6:20 for you are bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.

We are instructed to keep our bodies pure.

Heb 10:22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies having been washed with pure water.

Do Tats bring glory to God? Do Tats keep our bodies pure?

You decide, but remember your body belongs to God.

Do not base your desicion on those who had tats before salvation, ask yourself "I am saved, how do I treat my body as a Christian".

My advise would be to first write your Tat on your body with a market pen and see what kind of outreach it achieves before doing the permanent thing.
