Luke 14
Verses 13:14
jesus-forgives-sinners-150x150.jpg

“But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.”

For God so loved the world, He gave His only son. The most famous verse in the Bible; we are poor when it comes to the riches of the Spirit. Jesus did not come to lead the rich and obedient but the poor and sinners. This is to bring hope to the lost, that there is a place for everyone and not only the well known.

Salt Without Taste Is Worthless
“Salt is good, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is of no use either for the soil or for the manure pile. It is thrown away. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”

Good salt are Christians who have taste; faith and the lost taste are those who have lost their way with God. Those that do not repent don’t get restored and is thrown away. Those who listen and have a relationship with God hears his guidance and teaching.

Salt has 3 important qualities: Taste, preserve, destroy. Taste is referring to the love we have for people, even our enemies. If we don’t love, we don’t have taste. We preserve our faith by having a relationship with God. Without Him, we destroy everything we have built. Or it could mean: to be divided amongst non-believers; our family and friends.

So the question is, how much are you willing to give up to be with God? Is the love you carry God’s love? Will you preserve your faith and trust in Him?

Thanks Christine! I really enjoyed this!

First part, verse 14 especially reminds me a a verse in Romans. I cant put my finger on it atm but it is essentially lend things without expecting a return. A good friend of mine was talking about this recently that anytime he lets others have money or anything else he is not expecting it to be repayed. Which is right on what verse 14 is talking about with repayment at the resurrection.

I'm glad you have enjoyed this! ^^ I have done this in the past as well, giving out money and not expecting anything at all in return. I have failed this test though. It got to a point in my life where Satan had whispered his convincing words in my ear. "Why is it you give so much and get no love in return? This isn't right, you deserve something every now and then. Why not start taking care of yourself before others?" From then on, that's what I have done and only got worse from there. So now I am rebuilding what I had failed.

Man this really speaks to me, esp since im going through alot... Finacially. In the beginning(when i first got saved) i was gun ho for God, losing things like friends, clothes or other material things but when i just realized that all my drawings i worked hard on my whole life( just moved) is at my old house and its locked by the owner of the house... I feel to pieces bc they are more than just drawings they came from my heart and i think unless ur an artist you wnt understand my current pain. Its like i can deal w almost anything but when you touch my drawings i become fragile, today i kept thinking in my head that commandment, you shall have no other god before me ... And if i have to give up my drawings that i love, for God it will be done ... With tears lol

I am an artist and I do feel your pain. It's SO difficult to part with something that came from your heart, soul and mind. What I don't understand is why can't you go get those pieces? Have you praised God through your art?

I'm no lawyer, but I don't think you can be legally prevented from getting your personal items. Whoever owns or manages the house is now responsible for your personal items and liable for their damage. I would think they would want to reduce that responsibility by letting you get whatever items they have no claim on. Again, I am no lawyer, but I have watched Judge Judy.

You'll have to check into it, but you should be able to get your artwork back.

I prefer to either say "no" to a request or simply give rather than loan something. I don't like that, with a loan, I feel bound to the transaction, anxious about when I can expect repayment, and dislike having that element as part of my relationship with someone.

Salt Without Taste Is Worthless

Christine, I noticed everybody is quoting "John 3:16" that refers to belief and acceptance of the "only Begotten Son of God."

* John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

How come many people cannot agree on the clear identity of JESUS CHRIST? Then I read the following:

* John 8:19 Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.

Does not our Lord Jesus Christ want us to know more about Him as regards His clear identity?

I quoted it because I thought it fit into my little notes area. I do hear where you're coming from, I actually talked about "the identity of Christ" with my dad just two nights ago.

The clear identity of Jesus is that he was NOT the "gentle Jesus" people make him out to be. He is brutally honest, but don't forget what He says is meant to save us; He is not without compassion and love. Take a look at what He says every time the Pharisees question Him, or anyone from the crowd that shouts out to speak to Him or bless Him.

Now, this next verse (John 8:19) I think this means that if you knew Jesus' Father, you would recognize the Son of God without question. He even prepares us for his coming throughout the Bible and that we should be prepared for when the Master comes Home - and with that we will know who He is. I really hope this makes sense. I have it in my head, but putting it into words is tough.

Christine, thank you for your comments.

I can see this statement of our Lord Jesus Christ that actually it is a rebuke:

* John 8:19 Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.

WHO, then, is the FATHER God in the Old Testament?

What is His name, when this is what "is written."

* Isaiah 52:6 Therefore my people shall know my name: therefore they shall know in that day that I am he that doth speak: behold, it is I.

Quite clearly that the FATHER had not yet revealed His true name in the Old Testament to His chosen.

I haven't read too much of the Old Testament yet, but I have come across something similar to those verses. I Am, Lord, Yahweh. He says this is His name. I just don't remember where I read that. Sorry, I am not very helpful in that area.

Christine, the name Yahweh came from Jehovah, a name invented only by Roman Catholic Cardinal Peter Galatin in 1518. This is an excerpts from the article, THE NAME OF ? THE NAME OF GOD !

"The reading Jehovah is a comparatively recent invention. Jehovah is generally held to have been the invention of Pope Leo the 10th's Confessor, Peter Galatin (De Arcanis Catholic Veritates 1518, Folio XLIII), who was followed in the use of this hybrid form by Fagius Drusius. Van de Driesche, who lived between 1550 and 1616, was the first to ascribe to Peter Galatin the use of Jehovah, and this view has been taken since his day."

In recent times however, further revision of this name was made that now it is adapted by many modern translations of the Holy Bible. Father God is called Yahweh.

“Yahweh ”

The Samaritan pronunciation Jabe approaches the real sound of the Divine name. The other early writers transmit only abbreviations or corruptions of the sacred name. Inserting the vowels into the original Hebrew consonant text, YHWH, we obtain the form Jahveh or Yahweh, which has been generally accepted by modern scholars as the true pronunciation of the Divine name. It is not merely closely connected with the pronunciation of the ancient synagogue by means of the Samaritan tradition, but it also allows the legitimate derivation of all the abbreviations of the sacred name in the Old Testament.

Well then, I am wrong on that note. ^^ Thanks for the post! Like I said, I haven't done a lot of reading in the Old Testament, yet. I'll get there after the New Testament.

Ya did good darlin! Just remember that there is always one in every crowd who just can not help them selves.

^.^ Right! I think they were just trying to praise Him. And thanks!

Yes Christine, as David what he did and wrote:

* Psalms 56:10 In God will I praise his word: in the LORD will I praise his word.

* Psalms 56:11 In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me.

* Psalms 56:12 Thy vows are upon me, O God: I will render praises unto thee.

* Psalms 56:13 For thou hast delivered my soul from death: wilt not thou deliver my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?

You are doing good. Don't let the little details get you down. You aren't wrong at all, there are just other opinions on some of these things because they can be very complicated issues.

Thanks! ^^ I think it's time I do another chapter. As for complicated issues... I hope and pray that God will speak through me for those topics.

The Good(ie the God's Love) always is Useful/Helpful/Beneficial, but with the human "relations/touch/kissing" may to not be so always.

The Parable of the Lost Sheep
Ever hear the saying there is at least one black sheep among the family of white sheep? Sure it’s true. They’re lost and have lost the light of their path and turn down the dark alley ways of life. Often the problem is they’re condemned of always doing the wrong thing. Having them kicked out of the home when they should be taken to a revitalizing facility where they can get help with what problem they have. Sometimes it’s as simple as spending time with that person.

Encouragement! Fill them with positive attitudes; it rubs off.

When this man’s son came home all beat and broken from how he lived his life. His father came running after him with open arms. Truly that’s love and forgiveness. His son was lost and now found. Think of the song Amazing Grace. How often we sing this song as just words and never truly feeling for what it really means.

Jealousy is an ugly thorn on a rose. This boy’s brother was not happy that he came home to a feast rather than punishment. He didn’t have the heart to forgive what had been done to his father; like so many families do so today. What if this black sheep of a son returned home in a body bag? What then, I wonder, would this brother think then? One life isn’t worth the cost of anger or resentment.

What does this mean to me now?
I do have a black sheep little sister and I realize that reading this parable is SO important to me now since she has a son. I have two 1 year old nephews. But back when I was a teenager, had I read this parable, I wouldn’t have cast her in my bad books. I was very negative towards her just like this jealous brother and couldn’t forgive her for what she’s done. My hard earned items went missing, but one thing that always stuck in my mind was when my father said “then she must really need this”. For the life of me I couldn’t understand why he was taking her side. It didn’t occur to me then he wasn’t taking any sides. My anger blinded me from the truth of the matter.
