Bible "versions"

I don't like the H and W bases for my Bible. They took out some really important things...
Yet, I certainly use them to read along with my KJV or with my NKJV. I agree that none of them
are perfect, and that the Holy Spirit can get us the information we need when we need it.

Plus, if you look at Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John... you can see that some things are in all of them,
and some things are missing from others. So... my take on this is to make sure we stay in the Word and
open to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

ps... the JW book is not for me, not when they deny my Lord Jesus and the price He paid

Would agree with everything you said bar the last statement.
The JW do believe in Jesus and the price He paid, however the majority of them think they are unworthy of it, I have had this explained by a person who left the faith.
My source is an ex-JW that was in the faith for 25 years.
I am not for the JW belief system by any means but I am NOT here to knock it either, just correcting with the truth.

I tend to use NIV because its plain and simple English, but if I want to back it up, I backup with KJV, expically before saying it to someone and saying "This is what I think it means".
However the Holy Spirit is the way to really get things, without Him as your guide you are lost.
A few times now I have said things entirely scripture based without even knowing the scripture for it, thats the Holy Spirit lol!

Also remember that even with the Holy Spirit, you might just NOT get it.
God has given teaching gifts to people for a reason, its not that they are smarter than you.
You might serve a much greater purpose and have other Gifts like prophecy or healing, you never know so dont get down that you cant soak things in, just ask for help.

Good morning :)

I googled this: "what do jehovah witness believe about jesus" and found some things. Nonetheless, I sure don't want to argue about this kind of thing. Well, off to work I go.
See ya around
have a great day

Well it varies to be honest, but they do acknowledge Jesus, just not in the right way.

Yes Michael, they sure have some "interesting" ideas lol.

Yes, i would say the idea that He is the incarnation of Michael the archangel is gnostic to say the least .

If you really want them to go away . talk about the trinity from anywhere but the gospel of John or the letters . it's soooooooooooooooooooo much fun . get to talk about the scripture for a long while just having a fun conversation . and then strangely they never come back .. not sure why . ;D

Would the 'Nehemiah Anointing' be appropriate in this kind of situation?
Perhaps not!
Tempting though.

Neh 13:25
So I contended with them and cursed them, struck some of them and pulled out their hair,
and made them swear by God, ...

That one always makes me laugh for some reason . probly because it is so opposite of what i would expect to read in the bible .

I think the disciples had heard of it, because they wanted to bring fire down on people. And we know what Jesus said about that. :)

Luke 9:54

We invited JWs in.
She still comes today, but shes no longer a JW.
We didnt do anything to help her realize JW is wrong, she worked it out for her self and shes the reason I got to the light (Well God used her)
So I cant complain about them to much.

Sorry, I had to crack a smile with this one. Yes I can be rather cynical, but I found some kind of awkward humor in "I told them that was a nice story...".
Can you believe one of them came up to us up in the park? Ha!
They came to my door and told me what they believed about Jesus and i told them that was a nice story .

Really? what does that mean? I would like to know more.

I'm currently detoxing from the bible . but if you looked the passage up and its general context in an NIV and a KJV translation you'd see a longish phrase omitted and turfed to the blog at the bottom of the footnotes in the NIV .

Thanks, I will look it up.
how come you are detoxing from the Bible? and to what are you toxing to?
sorry.. you might have already said somewhere, but I plead the: I am new here
excuse :)

Oh well,

i guess i can say something . i'm detoxing because of some teaching i applied in the past . the bible has a spiritual affect on my being . and lately .. i've felt myself becoming judgmental and very pharisee like . so i'm detoxing . something i'm dealing with must be reacting to the bible verses . so just cutting it out of my spiritual diet .. the letter kills but the spirit gives life so to speak . so really "toxxing" to .. hmm i guess trusting God and receiving His Spirit . already have plenty of scripture implanted all over my body and nervous system . so the only point in using it now is to edify others . at which i think i failed quite abysmally lately . oh well , maybe next season .

Nah.. I don't think you failed. And I think you are wise in what you are doing. May the Lord give you wisdom and understanding. May He give you peace, and His joy.

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2 Corinthians+13:7&version=NIVNow we pray to God that you will not do anything wrong. Not that people will see that we have stood the test but that you will do what is right even though we may seem to have failed. (2nd Corinthians 13:7)

i'm gonna break for a bit because of what's going on inside . but i really appreciated your post . so had to respond . thank you .

As a Bible-believing Christian, I believe that the words of the King James Authorized Version are the pure and preserved words of God for the English speaking people. The wicked Laodiceans and Alexandrians do not believe that any human being should have a printed final authority to guide him through this wicked world of darkness and deceit.

The Alexandrian apostates work endlessly in their efforts to replace your two-edged sword with a toothpick. These people take great delight in ridiculing and intimidating people like you and I, and far too often they win because we do not know the answers. With a good basic knowledge, you CAN know the answers and you can win a few battles of your own.

The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever. (Psa. 12:6-7)

Was the King James Bible named after King James?

The King James Bible, published in A.D. 1611, was actually entitled The Holy Bible for 300 years until after the turn of the 20th century, when jealous new version printers sought to rename it. Upon checking new versions it will become apparent that it is still The Holy Bible and the others are counterfeits.

Copyright God's Word???

The mere fact that most bible translations are copyrighted proves the true motives of the Revision Committees of those particular translations (nearly 400 and counting): to change God's Word!

"To be copyrightable, a derivative work must be different enough from the original to be regarded as a 'new work' or must contain a substantial amount of new material. Making minor changes or additions of little substance to a pre-existing work will not qualify the work as a new version for copyright purposes." --The Derivative Copyright Law (partial).

Did you read that? In order for a bible to be copyrighted, it must be "substantially different" from the original texts! No wonder there are so many different doctrines going around today. No wonder there are so many contradictions in bibles! No wonder copyrighted bibles are so different from one another and say completely different things! They must be substantially different from one another in order to be copyrighted! Dear reader, the copyrighted bible you have in your possession is not the Holy Scripture, it is a translation which is substantially different from the scripture!

Copyright: "The legal protection given to authors and artists to prevent reproduction of their work without their consent. The owner of a copyright has the exclusive right to print, reprint, publish, copy and sell the material covered by the copyright." The New Standard Encyclopedia, volume 3, page 565.

First of all, who is the "owner" of God's Word? Well obviously, the one who created God. Certainly, not mere man. So how can any man copyright God's Word? The answer is he can't and he doesn't, because man can only copyright "their own words," and not the words of another. Therefore, copyrighted bibles contain the words of man and not the words of God.

Secondly, did you know if you quote from, or copy from, or preach from, one of these copyrighted bibles, without the written permission of the "author" of that work, did you know you can be fined, imprisoned, and penalized for doing so?In other words, whoever owns the copyright to a bible is preventing you from repeating what is contained in that bible! Does mere man have the authority to prevent someone from sharing God's Word with others? No, he doesn't. But since copyrighted bibles contain the words of men, only some man's personal interpretation of the words of God, they can prevent others from using "their" bibles.

And think about this, if you have to get the bible "author's" permission, then obviously this work is "created" by some man who believes he himself is the "author" of this bible. He is basically saying, "Before you can preach God's Word, you must go through me and ask my permission!" This is basically what copyrighted bibles demand!

Look at any copyrighted bible for proof of this. Here is the copyright notice to the New International Version (the NIV Bible - © Copyright 1973, 1978, 1984):

The NIV text may be quoted in any form (written, visual, electronic or audio), up to and inclusive of five hundred (500) verses without express written permission of the publisher, providing the verses do not amount to a complete book of the Bible nor do the verses quoted account for twenty-five percent (25%) or more of the total text of the work in which they are quoted.

In other words, we must ask permission from the NIV bible publishers to use more than 25% of any book of the bible, or more than 500 verses. The NIV bible is preventing you from preaching over 500 verses of their bible, and is also preventing you from repeating an entire book of the bible! For example, if I wanted to read the entire book of Jude (which contains only a total of 25 verses) to a congregation, I am forbidden to do so from the NIV bible!!! I will be persecuted if I do, because I would be quoting a "complete book" from their bible. The most I can quote from the book of Jude would be 25% of this book, which would mean I cannot read, print, or duplicate more than 6 verses from this book! I cannot read more than 25% of any book of their bible!

We must ask ourselves these questions, "Why are the publishers of copyrighted bibles threatening to persecute us if we quote from their bibles? Is this the character of someone who wants God's Word spread abroad to others? Or is this the character of someone who is preventing God's Word from being spread to others?"

Dear reader, how would you feel if some man said you could not preach God's Word unless you asked them for permission? Well, this is exactly what copyrighted bibles demand, on pain of being fined, imprisoned, and penalized for preaching from their bibles. So, why give power to the beast? Why use some man's bible if he is threatening you? Why not go to scripture instead, where you will receive blessings and not cursings. Why not use scripture instead, where you need not worry about being persecuted from some man who thinks he owns the words you are quoting from?

How serious of an offense can copyright infringement be? According to the Copyright Law itself, from Title 17, Chapter 12, of the U.S.Code, Section 1204, the criminal offenses and penalties of someone who violates a copyright shall be fined not more than $500,000 or imprisoned for not more than 5 years, or both, for the first offense; and shall be fined not more than $1,000,000 or imprisoned for not more than 10 years, or both, for any subsequent offense.

You might ask, "Why are bibles copyrighted?" The answer is because merchants want to make money, and the only way for them to make a buck off of God's Word is to substantially change it and pass it off as the real thing, so they can sell their merchandise. In addition, the reason why they demand that you ask them for permission to use their bibles is so they can make even more money off of you, because when you ask permission, you must either pay them money or advertise their book!

Hosea 12:7, "He is a merchant, the balances of deceit are in his hand: he loveth to oppress."

Revelation 18:23, "... the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies... for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived."

Now, to clarify, many bibles do contain a lot of God's Truth, but they are also mixed with man's opinions and personal interpretations. It is possible to understand the True meaning of God's Word through some bibles, but it is a lot more difficult to do. For example, one can understand the meaning of certain words by reading verses in its context, and by comparing the use of those same words in other passages. So, even though words and meanings have been changed in bibles, it is possible to understand its true meaning, but it will take a lot more effort on the part of the reader.

I do use the King James bible, because it is not copyrighted. And it's New Testament is taken from the Majority Text Manuscripts which represent over 99% of the 5000+ extant manuscripts. The copyrighted "versions" are based upon the corrupted remainder (less than 1%).

Is it Possible to be Saved through counterfeit Bibles?

Well, yes, the facts surrounding the gospel of Jesus Christ, and the simplicity of salvation, are found intact even in the grossest perversions of bibles. It must be remembered, though, that the scriptures are a weapon in the hands of the servants of God (Hebrews 4:12, Ephesians 6:17, 2 Timothy 3:16,). It is also food that we may grow properly (I Peter 2:2, Hebrews 5:13-14). It is in these areas, and many others, that bibles are weakened and corrupted. In fact, the very verses given above are altered in many new bible versions, thus weakening scripture. It is, therefore, possible to get saved through bibles, but you will never be a threat to an adversary.

Hebrews 5:13-14, "For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil."

If you flip on a religious TV station, for example, or walk into a Church, you watch and listen to these guys expound on their theories of who God is, and all you're getting is the milk. You can't survive on milk. And if all you get is milk, you end up dying in the end, spiritually. This is why we fail to see the fruits of the spirit being manifest in people today; the love, the peace, the joy, and the other fruits of the spirit. If you look around the world today, there is no joy. The abundant life is gone. And it's all due to the fact that they haven't matured in the Word, they've stayed on the milk and have not eaten more solid food. If you keep someone on milk forever, they'll wind up dying on you. You have to move on to more solid food; you will end up dying, your bones start to get soft, your muscles start to wither, you're no longer exercising.

A soldier is always out there exercising so that he may be ready and useful for battle. But if you're going to use inferior tools, or if you're not going to be fully exercised, or you're only going to go through the motions but never really do them, then all you're ending up with is a fat, lazy military who, when the order is given to march, they sit back and say, "Well, according to my interpretation of this passage of the order, it doesn't mean this," and so the order is never executed.

Then another order comes down. Now you've got a second order when the first order hasn't even been executed yet, because we've re-interpreted the first order. When the second order comes down, we re-interpret that, and that one doesn't get executed. And this is what we have today, many "soldiers of Christ" who do not exercise His commands.

Readers should read The NIV: The Making of a Contemporary Translation, 1986 THEMSELVES if they want to be Bereans. It is available from Zondervan Publishing House, 1415 Lake Dr. S.E., Grand Rapids, Michigan 49506 (ISBN: 0-310-24181-2).

What verses does the NIV (and most new versions) omit?

Mat. 17:21; 18:11; 23:14; Mark 7:16; 9:44, 46; 11:26; 15:28; Luke 17:36; 23:17; John 5:4; Acts 8:37; 24:7; 28:29; and Romans 16:24, just
like the Jehovah Witness New World Translation and the Catholic bible.

We hear much talk these days about "older" and "more authoritative" manuscripts, but we aren't hearing much about the origin of these manuscripts. It is a well established fact that there are only two lines of Bibles: one coming from Antioch, Syria (known as the Syrian or Byzantine type text), and one coming from Alexandria, Egypt (known as the Egyptian or Hesycnian type text). The Syrian text from Antioch is the Majority text (representing over 99% of all known manscripts) from which our King James 1611 comes, and the Egyptian text is the minority text (representing less than 1% of all known manuscripts) from which the new perversions come. (Never mind Rome and her Western text, for she got her manuscripts from Alexandria.)

The manuscripts from Antioch were mostly copied by Bible-believing Christians for the purpose of winning souls and spreading the word of God. The manuscripts from Alexandria were produced by infidels such as Origen Adamantius and Clement of Alexandria. These manuscripts are corrupted with Greek philosophy (Col. 2:8), and allegorical foolishness (not believing God's word literally). The strange thing is that most Christians aren't paying any attention to what God's word says about these two places!Notice, in the Word of God, how the Holy Spirit casts Egypt and Alexandria in a NEGATIVE light, while His comments on Antioch tend to be very positive.

The NIV is printed by Zondervan Publishing, which is owned and copyrighted by Rupert Murdoch. If you want to use more than 200 words from Murdoch's "version," you'll need to get his permission in writing. Murdoch also owns Reuters News Service (#3, behind UPI and AP), and a third of the telecom satellites now circling the globe. He is a billionaire who has publicly stated he wants to rule the world. Murdock also owns Fox Broadcasting (the NIV is known as the "Bart Simpson bible"). He's a purveyor of erotica (i.e. a convicted pornographer). The stylist on his NIV translation committee was Virginia Mollencott, an admitted lesbian and witch coven supporter. She authored a book titled "Sensual Spirituality: Coming Out of Fundamentalism." The NIV omits 64,000 words and 17 complete verses from the AV (i.e. "Authorized Version," - the official title of the King James Bible). THIS is the fruit of the corrupt NIV tree...

The scam is to get everyone to buy into the lie that what they already possess, i.e. the AV, is somehow insufficient. So what we have now is the conditioned "shopping mall bibles" mentality, where we see ppl actually BRAGGING about the number of volumes in their "collection" of "per-versions." They've bought the conditioned worldly peer pressured lie that "more is better." They look Godly, but God says they are POWERLESS - "...from such TURN AWAY."

The NIV's introduction gives an address:

International Bible Society
144 Tices Lane
East Brunswick, New Jersey, 08816

I am not sure if that is still a current address. The book, The NIV Story, by NIV member Burton Goodard, can be had through inter-library loans. It has a list of the members of the NIV committee. George Orwell's book, 1984, talked about "Big Brother," and warned that there would be a rewriting of history; this is happening. The NIV is now downplaying the role of stylist Dr. Virginia Mollenkott since she made a public disclosure of her homosexuality, goddess worship theology, use of spirit guides, tarot cards, and the I Ching. The NASB's Lockman Foundation is also denying the foundational role played by Dr. Logsdon because he came out publicly against the NASB.

A recent James Dobson newsletter tells of a lesbian who realized that the new bible versions were easier on homosexuality and were actually hindering her need for repentance. The question, "Why does the NIV omit all censuring of the sodomite or effeminate?" is answered by NIV translation stylist Dr. Virginia Mollenkott. Her recent book, Sensuous Spirituality, mentions the "great number of lesbian or gay clergy" who have confided in her "secretly." She readily admits:

1. Her "homosexuality" (p. 12, et al).
2. Her views about "working secretly within the system" (p. 48).
3. Her belief in "lying... deviousness, and downright subversiveness.... Subversion means a systematic attempt to overthrow or undermine..." (pp. 47 - 48).

Is it any wonder that the particulars of homosexual sin are omitted by a version that employed a closet homosexual stylist? In Pat Robertson's February 1994 issue of Christian American, Dr. Mollenkott calls the God of the Judeo-Christian tradition an "abusive parent." Why does she call God an "abusive parent"? She says:

"I can no longer worship in a theological context that depicts God as an abusive parent and Jesus as the obedient trusting child."

Mollenkott refers to god as "she" and her religion as "monism."

"The monism [Hinduism] I'm talking about assumes that god is so all inclusive that she is involved in every cell of those who are thoughts in her mind and embodiment of her image."

Her pro-homosexual book, Is the Homosexual My Neighbor?, echoes her NIV's assertion (in 1 Cor. 6:9, Deut. 23:17, 1 Kings 15:12, 22:46, 2 Kings 23:7) that the bible censures only criminal offenders or prostitutes, not "sincere homosexuals... drawn to someone of the same sex." Few "effeminate men" (KJV) are prostitutes or commit criminal offenses of a homosexual nature. Young people desperately need the bible's warning that the "sodomite" (KJV) is engaged in a potentially deadly activity. "Shrine" or "cult prostitution" (NIV, NASB, et al.) is archaic, it is not a translation of the Hebrew, but a subjective interpretation of its meaning.
