Why Do We Have The Book Of Rervelation ?

I was not sure how to title this thread so my second title would have been “ Are we becoming Complacent?”

Wake up , wake up ---- The fire alarm is sounding . How many times have I been woken up when living in an apartment or nurse’s residence . Oh , just another false alarm .

That brings me to the Book of Revelation ….. “ Not just a false alarm “

Even though I can say in all honesty ;it is a book that is still puzzling for me to read. Over time many people have their translations , but God must have put that Book there for a purpose .

Do you think it is because God wanted us to have a warning about the future so that we can also anticipate and make adjustments to our life? Or Do you think it is because God wanted us to know about the future and therefore we can’t say “ God you never told us ?”

These are just some of my thoughts and I welcome yours . I have studied Revelation , have CD ’s on the book and still find it very hard to understand .

Are we becoming complacent towards the things that are unfolding around us or do we sense with anticipation the finality or curtain beginning to close and the entrance of Jesus Christ coming to take us home ?

The whole purpose in my mind about “Revelation” is that we need to pass on this urgency to the next generation and not become complacent .

Even now as I write this , Lord help me not to be complacent about your coming . Help me to live each day as if it were my last . In Your name the name of Jesus . Amen .

What makes Revelation so exciting is to know that God is bringing an end to evil and is preparing a new city of peace for His chosen people .

Rev. 8:12 -13 ….. 12The fourth angel sounded his trumpet, and a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them turned dark. A third of the day was without light, and also a third of the night.
13As I watched, I heard an eagle that was flying in midair call out in a loud voice: "Woe! Woe! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth, because of the trumpet blasts about to be sounded by the other three angels!"

Its true everyone has their interpretation., 10 people will have 10 different views :D

But there are at lease a few things we should be able to agree on here. It starts out by saying this is the Revelation of Jesus Christ. Look at some of the things it reveals about Him.

Revelation1

3Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.
4John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne;
5And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
6And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
7Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.

13And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.
14His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;
15And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.
16And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.
17And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:
18I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

Yes many are

Wake up , wake up ---- The fire alarm is sounding .

Do you think it is because God wanted us to have a warning about the future so that we can also anticipate and make adjustments to our life?

I believe so and here are some adjustments the church needs to make. We are all in one of these 7 churches. It would be too long to post the whole chapters, but he praises each church, and also corrects them and tells them their reward if they do as He says.

Revelation 2

To the church of Ephesus
4Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.
5Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

7He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

To the church in Smyrna
10Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
11He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

To the church in Pergamos
14But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.
15So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes, which thing I hate.
16Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.
17He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

To the church in Thyatira
20Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.

24But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden.
25But that which ye have already hold fast till I come.
26And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:
27And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.
28And I will give him the morning star.

I'll continue the churches on another post

To the church in Sardis
1And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.

3Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.
4Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.
5He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

To the church in Philadelphia
8I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.
9Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.
10Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.
11Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.
12Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.

The church at Philadelphia is the only church that was walking in the light and was not corrected.

To the church of the Laodiceans
15I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
16So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
17Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
18I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
19As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
20Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
21To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
22He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

13As I watched, I heard an eagle that was flying in midair call out in a loud voice: "Woe! Woe! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth, because of the trumpet blasts about to be sounded by the other three angels!"

13And I beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, Woe, woe, woe, to the inhabiters of the earth by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels, which are yet to sound!

it seems the angel has turned into an eagle in your edition.?i would be more worried by your translations and who is changing them.

Michael .... Thanks for that as I was also trying to prove the inconsistecy of translations plus all the different theories ( which are too many to start) . That is a perfect example . I looked into several other translations and found that only the KJV and the NKJ are the only ones who say angels and rest say eagles .

For many centuries the eagle has been adopted as a symbol of power and majesty . Eagles were mentioned in Exodus 19:4 and in Deut. 32:11 and the people of Israel were reminded that they had been born from Egyptian captivity as it were on the wings of eagles . Scripture describes the eagle as swift , as it decends on its prey and its flight as powerful .

Perhaps because the eagle is reveired as being the strongest of all the birds , and because of it's power and strength , is it possible that could be the reason ? Here we see God's judgement growing with intensity and because of that judgement God is prompting the wicked to repent.

No and No .... never . Where are you getting that from ? The Bible can never be changed . It is the inspired Word of God . We cannot take away or add to it .

Revelation 22:18
For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book;
19And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

I love the book of "Revelation" And yes, it is a difficult book to understand and there are so many interpretations but Jesus said in the first chapter verses 1-3,

The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants—things which must shortly take place. And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John,
who bore witness to the word of God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, to all things that he saw.
Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near.

But there is a blessing in reading the book of Revelation. Before you read the Book of Revelation or any other book of the bible for that matter, pray that the Holy Spirit will give understanding. It was difficult for me to understand for a long time and I am not saying that I understand it all but the Holy Spirit helps me. You have the things that must take place shortly. God is allowing His children to know what is going to happen. That is God telling us don't be afraid, don't be fearful. These things must come to pass. So, when we see these things come to pass, we know that God is at work and we are protected. We all know that the time is near. But we have confirmation here in the word.

A brief introduction sets forth the main subject of the book to show to Jesus’ servants things which shortly must come to pass. Chapter four to the end of the book is mainly prophecy with practical exhortations and consolations.

1. John’s vision (Revelation 1:9-20)
2. The things which are and prophetically, the whole Christian dispensation (Revelation 2 and 3)
3. The things which shall come to pass and comprises the principal portion of the book (Revelation 4:1 to 22:5) This third division of the book can be divided into three main parts:
a. Tribulation period (Revelation 4:1–20:3)
b. Thousand year reign of Christ on earth (Revelation 20:4-15)
c. Period after the thousand year reign of Christ (Rev. 21–22)

has anybody checked the people who have new versions of the bible written have these plagues.?then you would know to leave that edition alone.

it was when they change angel to eagle ,if a angel can be changed to eagle why not a beagle.?then the next generation a seagull, the message gets lost if people keep changing the words.

Well one of the passages in Revelation 20 speaks of "every wicked bird" eating the flesh of men . perhaps eagle is a metaphor for angel . and the night birds in babylon demons .

Hey Godbe4me,

What doesn't line up is . if that were the only acceptable interpretation as you kind implied at the beginning of the above quote . the iron beast that "devours the earth and stamps the residue under its feet" is in control of the nations today . and it is a common interpretation in the poor countries that they are in the tribulation right now . and i would think that they too have the holy spirit .

and maladies similar to the bowl judgments are beginning to manifest now especially with the sun being given power to hurt people and skin cancer and a whole bunch of other things .

So who can really be sure?

Thanks GS. That was the verse I was looking for .

And I think what SC means also that the differing translations of the Bible can be confusing but for me , I like going to the different translations to get the real meaning .

SC what I was talking about being confusing is how man has put their spin on diferent theories in this Book .... not the Biblical translations .
