Our Words Really Do Matter

Our Words Really Do Matter

God created the world and everything in it with His words. Several time in Genesis He spoke everything that is created into existence. A few are:

In Gen. 1:3
And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
in verse 11
And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass,
in verse 26
And God said, Let us make man in our image.

Speaking things into existence is a principle of God. He lives you and in meand his power flows through us because we were made in His image. When we let Him speak through us instead of just saying what our carnal mind can think of, what we say affects our life, those around us and our world.

Proverbs 18:19 A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. 20Death and life are in the power of the tongue

Psalm 34:12What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good? 13Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile. 14Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it

Just think of the times when someone said something negative to you or criticized you; how did you feel? It produced death in your emotions, not life. Now what about when a person compliments you? You can feel life come into your being even if you were not feeling up to par. It built you up.

The way we talk can change the atmosphere in a room. You can enter a place right after there has been an argument and feel the oppression in the atmosphere. But when you enter a church service where they are praising and worshipping God it lifts you up.

Proverbs 13:2A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.

Psalm 17:4Concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept me from the paths of the destroyer.

Psalm 19:14Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

Psalm 141:3Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.

Proverbs 6:2 Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.

Remember, whether good or bad, our words really do matter!

God created the world and everything in it with His words. Several time in Genesis He spoke everything that is created into existence. do matter!

Romans 4:17 (New International Version)

17As it is written: "I have made you a father of many nations." He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed—the God who gives life to the dead and calls things that are not as though they were.

I so agree . words are so important . thank you .

So much truth in what you say , sis .... the words that we say can either edify or cut . That is why we must be very careful . That also goes back to our thought pattern . As what we think we will also speak .

The way we talk can change the atmosphere in a room. You can enter a place right after there has been an argument and feel the oppression in the atmosphere. But when you enter a church service where they are praising and worshipping God it lifts you up.

Yes , God ;lifts us up as we bless Him . Catch the fire ... Catch the praise and worship even if you don't feel like it . Praise does not go by feelings . Praise is an sweet offering unto our creator and King Jesus.

Our problem is usually right below our nose LOL . We will reap what we sow, we reap what we say. Its our MOUTH that gets us in trouble

Prov. 21:23Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.

That littlest member of our body is the most lethal . that's why our hearts need to be pure.

James 3:5Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! 6And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. 7For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: 8But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. 10Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

How we talk to our brothers and sister in Christ can really stir up a church. And talking about them will cause big trouble. Just one little thing said is like a spark that will set the whole forest on fire. In a flash what started it is gone, but its already set in motion and cannot be stopped. It’s already in the atmosphere and causing destruction. It’s poison in our mouth if we don’t allow the Holy Spirit to control our tongue.

Eph. 4:29Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. 30And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption

Psalm 130:1In my distress I cried unto the LORD, and he heard me. 2Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.

Gal 5:14For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 15But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another. 16This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

I can remember people saying to me, "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me."

NOT true! NOT true! NOT true!

Words do hurt, so I say "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words may break my heart."

It is very important that we watch what we say and how we say it. Very important indeed!

I wrote something I was going to post and when I came on tonight I see you already mentioned it LOL. But I'll post it anyway :D

You’ve heard the saying. “Sticks and stones may hurt my bones but words can never hurt me.” That’s not true according to what the Word of God says.

Psalm 34:12What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good? 13Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile. 14Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it

That is so true.... All these silly little saying we used to say or our mom's used to say . And I agree , if you are a sensitive person ,,,, words do hurt and cut to the core and remain and surface when you least expect . Yes it is important to use kind words .

Even when unbelievers come into the church I have heard then say, I don’t know what it is but I feel something here I like. Its peaceful and refreshing. The atmosphere is filled with praise even afterwards when no one is saying anything

The tongue is indeed powerful as it is deadly.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue
Pro 18:21

Words are important, but even more important is what is really in our hearts, for it is from the abundance of our hearts that we speak. If our hearts are pure, filled with the Spirit, the love, joy, and peace of God then good flows from our hearts like a river through our words and actions. If however our hearts are filled with hate, bitterness, and selfishness, then it's best to keep our mouths shut because we only hurt others and sow destruction for our lives. So, bi filled with the Spirit of God!
