Darkness

Matthew 27:45

The Death of Jesus

45From the sixth hour until the ninth hour darkness came over all the land.

I think we all know the meaning when God talks about being in darkness , because darkness is associated with sin and God’s judgment of sin .

We see in John how evil men love darkness rather than light . John 3:19
This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.

But did you also think about when Jesus was on the cross and at noon darkness fell upon the land until 3PM in the afternoon . ?

Think about it . God was judging the sin that put Jesus on the cross because of evil men who treated Jesus wrongly . We also have to say the we stand condemned with those evil men because we were born in sin so in a sense we put Jesus there as well .

Also think about the darkness as a judgment of the Father God against His Son . I know that sounds radical but thinking about it makes sense because Jesus had to take on yours and my sin and become guilty for our sin .

So in essence “ The Sinless One” was made sin for us .

How much more should we hate the sin that is in the world doday but like Christ - love the sinner but not the sin .

What an awesome Saviour we serve .

Yes Dusty The Lord Jesus suffered so much more than we will ever be able to comprehend and if I may just add something to what you have said.
In Gal 3:13 it tells us :Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangs on a tree:
All the curses that we find in Deut 28:15 onwards were heaped upon Him ... those curses are horrific and He endured it all for us.
What agony of soul He went through when His Father, the one who was with Him in glory who shared such blessed fellowship with Him ...turned His face away from Him.
I just pray that The Lord will help each one of us to have a deeper understanding what it meant to The Lord Jesus to bare away our sin.

So in essence “ The Sinless One” was made sin for us .

2 Corinthians 5:20Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

21For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Yes that is so true ," HeisallI need " We will never really know the agony that Jesus suffered for us on the cross . Even the other day I was reading about the wine mixed with myrrh that was offered to Jesus just before they pounded the nails into his hands .

Matthew 27: 34...... There they offered Jesus wine to drink, mixed with gall; but after tasting it, he refused to drink it.

Matthew says the wine was mixed with gall but Mark says mixed with myrrh ..... Both myrrh and gall contain sedative properties that numb the senses but Jesus refused to be stupified by drugs , instead opting to feel the full force of his suffering .

Why do you think Jesus refused ? Maybe it was because He knew that we also would feel His pain . He wanted us to know that the pain that He was enduring was all for us ... He understands everything that we are going through in life because He went through even more for our redemption .

Amen GodSpeaks ...

He is very wonderful. I haven't been digging into the Word as much as He would like. College has been keeping me busy. But the other times that I haven't been busy, I just refused to do it because I was lazy. But yet, Jesus still loved me at that time. He is good. <3

Turning the tables now and talking about " Light " .... The Bible says we are the light of the world ... we are salt and light .

God called us out of darkness ...... 1 Peter 2:9
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

We as people of God have been born again , redeemed by the blood of the Lamb

1 John 1:5
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.

So let us walk in the light of Jesus Christ , proclaiming the victory , claiming His promises , declaring to all that Jesus Christ is alive and that we are children of the most High God . What a priviledge , what an honour.

Amen , Spinning , but Jesus does understand and He will never leave you nor forsake you my dear. Sometimes in our bussiness our enemy has a great way to distract us but you are recognizing the problem and Jesus will help you get back on track . Just trust Him

What is darkness to God? He created it.

Isa 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the
LORD do all these things.

Isa 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the

Darkness was there before the light But also in God's eyes darkness represents sin and ev il

Genesis 1:3
And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.

Genesis 1:4
God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness.

Genesis 1:5
God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.

Is there a reason this point shall be deleted. This is God's Word not my opinion. I did not write this verse.

No one is deleting your point . Yes God created everything .

My original point was in post #1 where God turned the daylight into darkness and turned His back on Jesus when Jesus was on the cross and the reason being because God could not bear to look because Jesus had taken on our sin .

That pont also validates your verse . Thank you

Sorry had a whole thread deleted yesterday here because the mods did not agree with a scriptural fact,. Yes God created all things including darkness, evil and even satan. Darkness is nothing but absense of light.

Sorry to hear that . I am not deleting your verse ... It is relevant in the discussion . Thanks for your input.

God’s Word is full of hidden symbolisms and one of my favorite is Jesus being the morning star. You see a morning star is the only star in the dawning of a new day when the sky is as black as night; that small little light shows us no matter how much darkness he is there. I have been though some dark nights and that light is all that matters in so much darkness.

Revelation 2:28
And I will give him the morning star.

Revelation 22:16
I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.

That is beautiful 25Z.... The bright and morning star ... And what do stars do at night .. ?? They break through the darkness and give us light .

I love your explanation .

All of us have been through some very dark points in our lives as we are being refined for His Glory . We cannot escape those times of trial . But the good point is He is always there shining brightly , giving us new hope and new light .

Even this morning words were put into my spirit " The cross on which Jesus died is a shelter in which we must hide "

And the darkness that God displayed in the middle of the day was also a reminder to us of the great darkness people who have not come to the Lord , experience . We are the only light that some may ever see so let us shine our lights for all to see and not hide our lights under a bushel .

Matthew 5:16
In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

I cannot condemn thouse who God has not called who live in darkness and cannot see the light becasue that is how God created them.

We digging into something deep and awesome here but can the Mod's allow us to really discuss the light and the darkness. Or is the there darkness is as the carnal men in the world who cannot bare the light?.

Carnal man is a creature of darkness and that is the way God created him (created us), it was not man's choice to be this way. We were all born just like our great......grandfather Adam after the fall. We were born in darkness, our nature rejects all things of God until God turns on the light.

It is our mission and purpose to be used towards men in darkness, we can ask God to use us to hopefully to turn on the light on or quicken those who God has not called. The light is not something we have control of when it comes to the rest of the world. It is God who must draw or quicken and that is when the light is turned on.

"The Bible plainly teaches that fallen man is blinded to the truth; the soulical man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness unto him, neither can he know them because they are spiritually discerned, and the soulical man has not the Spirit. Thus the sinner does not realize and appreciate the value of the salvation that is offered to him. In the first place, he does not know he is lost, and hence feels no need of salvation. Secondly, this sinner does not know that the salvation offered him In Christ is worth anything. All he has to go by in determining its worth is the lives of those who profess to possess it, and they for the most part, are very deficient illustrations of its merit. Furthermore, the sinner is surrounded by circumstances entirely adverse to his acceptance of Christ. And finally, worse than all, 'the mind of the flesh,' a corrupt nature, an 'evil heart of unbelief,' a 'body of death,' that leans toward the bad and opposes the good continually; and mark you, all these things are circumstances over which the individual has no control and for which he is not to blame.

Men of evil hate the light :

Job 24:13
13 "There are those who rebel against the light,
who do not know its ways
or stay in its paths.

John 3:20
20Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.

.

When religious man looks at the bright and morning star he sees the hugh dark sky, all the evil, corruption, darkness, sin, death... etc. When a spiritual man looks at te Bright and morning star he sees the star and glory in the star. The darkness only makes the star become brighter.

For they have been given the morning star.

Revelation 2:28 And I will give him the morning star.
