Faith..... What is it ?

Romans 1:16-17 ……

16I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last,[a] just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith “

If you were asked what your faith means , how would you answer? I know we will have a lot of varying answers and would love to hear them all . We have been on this topic before but it is always a topic that brings great discussion .

I would have to say my trust in Jesus Christ as a living Saviour ,believing what He said and what He has promised.

Such a complex question and one we hear every day . If we look up “ Faith” in the dictionary it says --- to trust- complete trust, confidence and loyalty. These are pretty powerful words .

Our Pastor this past Sun asked her 11 yr old daughter what faith was and she said “ crazy trust” coming from , an 11 yr old I think that is a pretty good description..
We see all the heroes of the Bible listed in Hebrews 11 and it is called the “ Hall of Faith “.

But what about “others’” mentioned in verse 35 ? Who do you think the “others “ are?

One of the “others” , I think and we really do not hear much about would be “ Andrew’ ‘ . Andrew became one of the first followers of Jesus but Andrew had great faith . His brother was rough and tough but without hesitation . Andrew saw his brother ‘s potential . He saw the value of a single soul .He had great faith and believed in Peter. John 1:35-40 . Andrew moved forward in the face of opposition and oppression and everything he did was by “ Faith” . We do not hear much about Andrew but just think --- he told and brought his brother to Christ . That’s all it took one soul and Andrew was instrumental in many being won for the Kingdom .

Yes we can talk about modern day “ others’ as well and there are many . Consider the man Albert Mackinnon ( to many he is unknown ) but he brought Billy Graham to the Lord and maybe he was not here to see the results but God sees and what if he had not been responsive in bringing Billy Graham …. What a great loss.

There are many and I could go on but the message is clear . We never know when we ask one to church or witness to one but God knows and we do not want to miss that opportunity .

Real Heroes of the “ Faith ‘’ are you and I as we see the value of a single soul .
I leave you with a quote from Philip Yancey…….. “ Faith means believing in advance what will only make sense in reverse.”

Hi my son .... Thanks for the reply and the nice words of encouragement. I am not fully back yet and will see what the Lord has in store for me .Yes faith is about trust .... Trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and he is faithful and just to see us through every bump in the road.Praise His name. .... God bless.

To me, faith is believing what you can't see, because you trust.

That's right Don ..... Romans3:3 says ....

3What if some did not have faith? Will their lack of faith nullify God's faithfulness?

I believe that " faith ' means to believe and is trust in the person of Jesus , the truth of His teaching and the redemptive work He accomplished at Calvary . Faith to me means the radical and total commitment to Christ as Lord of our lives.

James 2:14
14What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him?

Faith is believing what God said and acting on it. Faith without works (actions) is dead.

Amen my dear ... James 2:26 says 26As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.

They go hand in hand. You can't have one without the other.

Great answers you all .

Faith is a choice to believe in something out of hope . In our instance this faith is Jesus Christ --- the hope of our salvation . Faith is the substance and the evidence .

Hebrews 11

1Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

"FAITH" ...is a gift from God.

There are many manifestations it takes and many ways we can recognize faith.
However it is not something we can go out and get, or earn, or merit.

Faith is a gift. Some have it,..some do not.

It is like a mans love for a woman.

He either has been given it, or he has not.

If he does not have it, it is impossible for him to "MAKE" it happen.

Love cannot be forced, earned, merited, or aquired.

It either has been given by God...or it has not.

To me, faith is believing in the unseen. Believing as if it has already come to pass. Even if we don't see it yet, believe and have hope that God will bring it to pass.

When I think of faith or when I ask God for something, I am reminded to wait on God and that brings me to

Hab. 2:3 which says, "For the vision is yet for the appointed time; it hastens toward the goal and it will not fail, though it tarries, wait for it, for it will certainly come, it will not delay."

So, I ask God, then I ask God to sift my motives to ensure that what I am asking for is in His will for my life and thank Him and wait for for the blessing.

God bless

They go hand in hand. You can't have one without the other.

I say to people show me your faith without your actions (works).
I'll show you my faith BY my actions (works)
(Jam. 2:18)

If a person says they have faith but don't' act like, they don't really believe it, it its not Bible faith. Like if they say a certain airplane will land safely but are afraid to fly in it they don't really believe it.

Each time Jesus or the disciples prayed for someone he told them to do something they couldn't do before, to act on it.
