Afterward

Afterward

Joe 2:28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

So... when it says "afterward"... after what?
Looking for some thoughts.

31The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the LORD come.

just before his coming back,i think m8.

So... when it says "afterward"... after what?
Looking for some thoughts.

After, the Messianic period.
The latter days of the New Covenant. Peter interprets this at Pentecost in Acts 2:17-22.

You and I are in those latter days right now. The only question remaining, is when is the "Exact" great and dreadful day of the Lord? Today? ...Next Year?...50 years from now?

Joel was speaking about a time, after the incarnation, death and resurrection of Christ, and was shifting his focus away from the early OT time that he had been speaking about up until this point in the book.

You may also want to re-read Isaiah 32:15 Isaiah 44:3 Jeremiah 31:33 Ezekiel 36:26-27 to verify this. They were all speaking of the same time, as the Lord was speaking through each of them.

Notice the events he describes in versus 30-31, these are the events John foresaw in Revelation 6:12 Revelation 8:8 Revelation 9:1-19 Revelation 14:14-20 and also recorded in Matthew 24:29.

It could be later this afternoon, so do like the Boy Scouts!!... and "BE PREPARED."

were living between the time of Pentecost and the second coming so it could mean after the second coming ,but Im very unsure of that because the Bible does not indicate it specific ,,,,,,,,,,,,,:smiley50: brainteaser :smiley160:

I beg to disagree R4TS. I say this w/ the utmost respect to R4TS. And I think she won't be upset even if I do disagree w/ her on this particualr point :smiley10:

The day of the Lord could not be this afternoon. It's impossible. Let me explain why. R4TS quoted Mat 24:29. Here's verse 21:

For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

The great tribulation hasn't happened yet. It will happen first before the great day of the Lord. So it could not be the Day of the Lord this afternoon. After the great tribulation occurs, that's that time we could say, it could be this afternoon:

So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
verse 33

When you see all these things, including the great tribulation, that's the time you could say it is near.

Whenever it is, I believe we are in the “afterward” and have been for a long time.
We should all be listening to the prophets, our dreams and our visions.

After what? After the death and resurrection of Jesus, God poured out His Spirit on all who believed. This I believe is the fulfillment of that phrophesy.

Agree with you WhoamI about the latter days. I belive the latter days commenced from the time of the death and resurrection of Jesus. We may be living in the latter part of the latter days, but it could also be a thousand years from now.

The Lord announced that His 'day' would be accompanied by an outpouring of His Spirit on all people.

All People refers more specifically to all inhabitants of Judah.

At that time recipients of the divine Spirit will exercise prophetic gifts which had been limited to a selct few.

This is probably an allusion to Numbers 11:29, where Moses, responding to Joshua's misguided zeal after an outpouring of the divine Spirit on the 72 elders declared, 'I wish that all the Lord's people were prophets and that the Lord would put His Spirit on them!'

This extensive outpouring of the Spirit will signal the advent of divine blessing where the absence of prophetic visions characterized a period of sin and judgment.

Blood and fire represents warfare...

Key words: Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord.

Future prophecy...Day of the Lord will include both judgment and blessing.

That day begins immediately after the Rapture of the Church and ends with the conclusion of the Millennium.

This day is a major theme of prophecy with its fullest exposition in Revelation 6-19.

In the day of the Lord Jerusalem will be a place of refuge for the survirors whom the Lord calls.

In the future day of the Lord Judah and her enemies will be carefully distinguished.

The Lord will restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem, in fulfillment of Moses' promise.

At the same time God will gather the nations for judgment.

The site of the judgment will be the Valley of Jehoshaphat, mentioned only in Joel 3:2.

Some scholars suggest it is a yet-future valley, to be formed by the splitting of the Mount of Olives at the messiah's return of Zech 14:4.

The reason for God's judgment is the nations' treatment of His covenant people

We have the same Holy Spirit in us as they had in them some 2000 years ago.

Heb 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday and today and forever.

Jesus is the same, God is the same, and the Holy Spirit is the same.

Mal 3:6 For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

Mar 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
Mar 16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

“follow them that believe”
If anyone isn’t doing these things, it’s quite clear that a major factor is that they don’t believe it’s possible. (I myself am still struggling with that)
And we must also believe it is the Holy Spirit doing the work. I think many, many people have quit listening to God over the years. We are supposed to be doing God’s work here on earth, not just sitting around waiting for Jesus to come back.

very Good post,it says in the bible when sick, seek your priest.if i went to my priest,he,d probably look at me as if mad.:)
