To Whom Does The Lord Give Salvation?
The Lord Beautifies The Meek With Salvation

The Lord taketh pleasure in his people; he will beautify the meek with salvation. - 149th Psalm
Below is an excerpt from the Daily God Walk for today:

The Lord delights in his people. What a concept! The joy of the Lord is the people who are called by his name. He decorates his people with his glory, embellishing them with crowns. Who are these blessed people? They are the humble, gentle, meek and lowly who will simply come to him....

Another excerpt from Daily God Walk for today:

raw-tsaw’– This word is translated “taketh pleasure” in the KJV and in the NIV it is translated, “delights.” It is used in the sense of satisfying a debt, which seems to be a direct connection to Christ. It also means finding favor with, or giving great delight. The message is that God gets pleasure from his people.

I find it inspiring to think that the Lord delights in our praise.

Hi Paul

If I may say so, salvation cannot be earned. Although the qualities presented are admirable and applaudable, being humble or gentle or lowly will never win us the righteousness (or salvation) of God. It has been done; it is finished. In faith I accept the 'free gift.'

To Whom Does The Lord Give Salvation?
That is indeed a deep subject Paul;

I believe that some, are Graced with eternal salvation.
You could say, the "Saints"

In other words, there are those whom God has elected prior to birth as being saved by Grace without the possibility of losing it.

Ephesians 1:3-7
2 Thessalonians 2:13
Acts 13:48
Romans 8:28-30
2 Timothy 1:9
Matthew 24:22-24

That being said, with those few exceptions, everyone can accept salvation, however many will lose salvation. ( Matthew 22:14 )

In fact, I would say that MOST will refuse salvation and remain eternally damned.

I would disagree with Calvin and any teachings that believe some are predestined to hell.

I do believe that SOME are predestined to heaven, but I deny any claims that some are predestined to hell.

Hi there R4TS.

I agree to your disagreement w/ Calvin :)

For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour
Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth
1 Tim 2:3-4

Amen.

I agree to your disagreement w/ Calvin

Thank you for the support John.

Like I said, this is a "DOOZY!" of a question.

I think Paul (The OP) was aware of that. :D

On the one hand, ...Sure, God knows all, now the future, and when He creates someone, He is aware of that persons destiny...

But here is where I do not agree with Calvin.

I do not think that knowledge of the future, in any way affects that persons free will.

Therefore, no one is pre-destined to hell.

In the Seminary, we study Calvin and Wesley to great degrees, and I must admit, I agree with John Calvin very much of the time, however on this one... well.

I think I've made my point. :)

how does matt 22:14 say people loose their salvation...I have never heard of that scriptre meaning that?
Why would God "call" those who are not chosen?

His invitation was to all of Israel, His chosen people, and to all others, both good and bad.

However, His Grace, working through His Word, achives its goal, only in the few whose RESPONSE to God's invitation marks them as God's chosen elect.

See also, versus 8-10 of the same chapter.

You see, I believe this is where "Works" come in.
Works do not "save" us, and we cannot "earn" our way into heaven.. But those of faith, WILL respond with good works, "fruits".

Some, who are truly "saved" (Christ saved all of us)
Some will not respond, and they, therefore, have "LOST" their salvation.

I will agree to disagree on the meaning of those scriptures but thank you for your explanation.
Oh, absolutely, and thank you also for being so kind.

We cant (obviously) base something like that on one particular verse either.

If you read ahead to Matthew 24:13 you will again see that "he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved."

Well, again, the Greek word her that is translated as "saved" is actually the word for deliverance, it is SOZO, to deliver from the penalties of the Messianic judgement.

And again, we can look to John 12:48 Salvation is clearly conditional.
If we must ENDURE, the many things that will come our way, until the end, then one can lose ones salvation.

We cant (obviously) base something like that on one particular verse either.

I actually have other verses for that.

For it is impossible to bring back to repentance those who were once enlightened—

those who have experienced the good things of heaven and shared in the Holy Spirit,

who have tasted the goodness of the word of God

and the power of the age to come— and who then turn away from God. It is impossible to bring such people back to repentance; by rejecting the Son of God, they themselves are nailing him to the cross once again and holding him up to public shame
Heb 6:4-6

These people were called but, unfortunately were not chosen :(

These people were called but, unfortunately were not chosen

Yes, and I think those verses you have selected.. (Very good if I might add.)
Also illustrate that they had salvation, and yet lost it.

those who were once enlightened
those who have experienced the good things of heaven
who have tasted
and who then turn away from God

Clearly, once saved always saved is not supported by these verses.

To Whom Does The Lord Give Salvation?

To them that believe in their heart . . .

Romans 10:9-10 . . .

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart
that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."

The answer to the question, in the context of the post is: The meek - "He will beautify the meek with salvation"

Who are the meek? There is where we move into deep waters. I have friends on all sides of the issue. Some of my friends believe all who will be saved are ordained to salvation; some of my frineds believe that free will is involved and that only those who have a true faith in Christ will be saved; some of my friends believe that once a person is saved they are sealed for eternity and nothing can affect that; others of my friends believe salvation is like a coat that a person takes off and puts on at will;
As for me... I stand with my friends (lol).

Seriously... to me the question is not whether a person could loose their savation, the question is this: are you truly born again? If you are truly born again you may stumble along the way but you will not be willing to surrender your faith... your new-born heart keeps drawing you back to him.
