Do We Sow What We Reap ?

Do We Sow What We Reap ?

Psalm 7 :14-16
14 He who is pregnant with evil
and conceives trouble gives birth to disillusionment.

15 He who digs a hole and scoops it out
falls into the pit he has made.
16 The trouble he causes recoils on himself;
his violence comes down on his own head.

I know we have all heard that expression " What goes around comes around" ----- But there is some truth in that statement according to the Word of God . It really does come back to you .

In this psalm a manipulator and schemer will not get away with his or her evil and wickedness or manipulations . Another reason not to be this way is it hurts others .

Maybe it won't affect the people involved at the moment but down the line other family members will reap the harvest of evil, deceit, lying , cheating, or abuse.

We are called to do what is right and to treat people with respect and love and when we do we will reap a harvest of blessing and favour.

Amen Dusty, we all do reap what we sow whether evil or good. It may not come back when we expect it to but it does in God's perfect timing. No work whether good or bad goes un-noticed by God.

Thanks, this is a good reminder to sow good works

We reap what we sow and sometimes reap what others have sown as well.

People who are not under the new covenant with God are still under His wrath, but those who are in Christ are under His grace.

David starts off the Psalm in repentance, asking God to judge him if he has done evil to his freinds.

These are the promises in the Psalm.

Psa 7:10
My defense is from God, who saves the upright in heart.
Psa 7:11 God judges the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.

If we lead a life of disobedience we will end up suffering as a result of our disobedience, and those around us will probably also be effected, but once we are in Christ we are under the grace of God and sin no longer has a hold on us. The way out is in Christ!

The world today believes in the underlying teaching of Karma which also teaches "you reap what you sow". This is a belief in self sanctification towards salvation (in their understanding salvation is peace and happiness of self). Ghandi was a big teacher of this principle.

Unfortunately as sinful people we are always going to hurt somebody or do something wrong which means under the principle of 'reaping what we sow' and under Karma, we will never get out of the never ending circle of getting back what we have done wrong.

But in Christ, if we repent, we are forgiven and our sins are remembered no more. They are separated from us as far as the east is from the west. Circle broken in one step.

The act or belief of self sanctification is nullified in Christ and we are sanctified through Gods grace which means we receive His love, judgement, forgiveness and if need be, discipline.

If we sin, we will reap what we have sown, but if we repent to Jesus, our sins are forgiven and we are set free!

While I understand what you are getting at Kevin the following scripture was given through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit; through the vessel of Paul to the Galatian church:

Gal 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
Gal 6:8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

We reap what we sow and sometimes reap what others have sown as well.

Yes we know we are under grace but we also have to be covered by the Blood every day . We cannot just go around saying ... Oh now I am saved so I am under grace . We also need to do our part by praying reading the word and meditating on Godly things.

This is what I am talking about where in families down the line we reap what others have sown in the form of generational curses , which can be broken by the power of the Blood of Jesus . I have attested to that in my own family and in other families . The sad part is where people want to hold on to these things and say well that happened .... so be it .

Reaping and sowing can mean a number of things such as when we give to the Lord or we give to our neibours because the Lord tells us that whatever we give will be returned to us 100 fold , pressed down and running over.

Galatians 6:7
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.

2 Corinthians 9:6
[ Sowing Generously ] Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.

There are so many facets to the reaping and sowing aspect and reaping and sowing has a lot of descriptions . When we sow we are commanded to sow into people's lives as well as our home church so that not because we are looking to accolades but God will supply our every need and see that we are good and faithful servants.
Galatians 6:9
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Yes, throughout my life I have seen time and time again that we reap what we sow - and I'm speaking about Christians here.

I have seen those who have done great disservice to other Christians and sometimes it has taken many years, but they have suffered for what they have done.

To villify another Christian, perhaps in order to improve one's own status will be judged by the Lord. I remember when Counselling someone who told me that their life had been "dust and ashes" since they wronged another Believer. It required repentance and confession and a long time in recovering before this Christian enjoyed happy fellowship with the Lord again.

The old saying "If you can find nothing good to say then say nothing at all" is a good maxim for us all to hold.

God bless us all as we learn together.

Amen Jeanan... I can certainly relate to that . Those who say it does not come back to haunt them are only fooling themselves.

Hi Dusty, I never said we can just go arround saying we are under grace and carry on in our sinful nature.(that is part of the false theology of 'once saved always saved').

What I did say is that we need to repent of our sins. This is exactly why Paul said to the Galations, God cannot be decieved. We cannot go arround pretending to be christians and lead lives of sin without repentance. God knows what is in our hearts. We need to lead lives that bring glory and honour to God, then we are not decieving God or ourselves.

Jesus set us free from the bondage of sin. We cannot as Christians go arround thinking that we are under a curse when Jesus released us from the curse when He died on the cross. If we have treuly repented and asked Jesus for forgiveness then we are free from any 'curse'.

To believe a true christian is still under a curse is to make void the act of the cross, but we can as mere humans go back into a sinful nature and bring Gods wrath back on ourselves.

Heb 10:26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins,
Heb 10:27 but a certain fearful looking for judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
Heb 10:28 He who despised Moses' Law died without mercy on the word of two or three witnesses.
Heb 10:29 Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy of punishment, the one who has trampled the Son of God, and who has counted the blood of the covenant with which he was sanctified an unholy thing, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?

When we look at the analogies used in the word for reaping and sowing, the authors often used it in different contexts.

The context in which you used it was in the context of paying for our sins. Suffering the results of our sin here on earth.

There are other contexts, such as offerings, reaping the harvest (gaining souls for Jesus) etc.

God bless

My apologies to you Kevin as it is so hard sometimes with written word to actually convey our true meanings and I certainly did not mean that because we are undergrace we can do anything we want cause I know better than that .

As far as the curses , I also did not say that Christians go around with curses , I merely stated that things that happen in families are because of sin from past members and a lot of times people need to be freed of these " Curses " for a lack of a better word. And they need a lot of prayer and perple laying hands on them to have them released from these past episodes.

For example in my own family a daughter of my brother was very rebellious , got pregnamt at a very early age and is now contending with the same issue in her daughter who did the same thing but this girl has rejected the child so the grandmother is raising her . The list goes on ... My father was a divorced man and now I am divorced. I have released that so called family generational curse to the Lord and am free but there are a lot of families who pass issues down through their generations and never ask God to free them .

Another example is abuse , sexually , physically and emotionally . I was a victim of that but I have also prayed and forgiven and know that God has forgiven and I pray that my son will be released from that and not carry it into his marriage .
Sorry if I was misunderstood and I am respectful of your comments . Thankyou. and God Bless.

But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions - it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not of yourselves it is the gift of God....." Eph.2:4-8

Now if I am seated with Christ in the heavenly realms, by God, then just who is going to go up there into that eternal realms and bring me down? I was saved by grace and I am kept by grace - not works.

The tense of the verb 'saved' in v5 and 8, suggest a completed action with emphasis on its present effect.

God bless us as we learn together.
