Follow your heart!

Follow your heart!

You have heard so many times people saying, "Follow you heart". But as Christians we can boldly do this as soon as we have God in our heart.:)

Read on.....

Hebrews 8:10
“… I will put My laws in their minds and write them on their hearts…”
MANY of us have been taught that we cannot trust our hearts. We quote verses like “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked…” (Jeremiah 17:9), not knowing that Jeremiah was referring to the man who had not received Jesus as his Lord and Savior.
I have had people come to me and say, “Pastor Prince, I don’t know what I should do with my life.”
“What is on your heart?” I asked one of them.
“I would love to work among children.”
“Then work among children!”
“But I am waiting on the Lord to tell me to do that.”
“Well, He has given you the desire, so go and work among children!”
“But the desire comes from my heart. How do I know if it is from God?”
My friend, once you are saved, you have a brand new heart (Ezekiel 36:26), and you can trust the promptings of your heart because God dwells in you and He leads you from within. And don’t worry because His promptings will never contradict His Word. It will lead you to good success.
Often, you find that when you follow your inner promptings, it is actually God who has put those desires in your mind and written them on your heart. I remember years ago when I approached one of our church leaders and told him, “I really think that you are called to be a full-time pastor.” It turned out to be a confirmation of what he already knew on the inside. You see, God was already leading him from within. Today, he is one of our full-time pastors
If you enjoy something and desire to do it, then go for it! Go with the flow. God Himself says that He will guide us from within. Let’s not doubt Him. And don’t worry about the outcome. Your part is just to follow the flow. God’s part is to work in you both the willingness and the performance of it! (Philippians 2:13)
Beloved, because God has given you a new heart, He will write His desires on it. And as you fulfill these desires, you will bring forth fruit, and not wither and die. Whatever you do will prosper!
Thought For The Day
You can trust the promptings of your heart because God dwells in you, and He leads you from within.

This is sort of contrary to what I've been taught. With the word and calling upon God for discernment of course. I'd like to hear others' thoughts.

This thought would certainly help me get things going in my life. I feel so idle and useless, maybe because I'm not trusting God enough to start living and pursuing the desires that are good.

You know I've even lacked motivation to do things because I've thought that God should be the reason I do things. So recently, when this woman caught my attention and love slapped me stupid... my desires have become to be a real man obedient to God and now my passion is to learn about marriage and being a husband and father. Since it took a woman to motivate me I didn't feel right about the desires. But you know what it was Christ in her that captivated me, and the desires are still good if I'll seek His will in it all first and foremost. Even though I feel like I'm going to die if I can't be with her.

Mark_18,

This does seem true in an aspect that we all wanna do and accomplish certain things in our life, but there are times when are our hearts tell us to do something and all of a sudden we're not sure whether we should or not. I feel this is when we must take matters to God and put it before him. If our feeling towards that thing changes then it was possibly not in God's will..

On the other hand if we still feel quite strong about it, we should go ahead with it. After all it might be God that is leading us.

For me in my life, ive been crazy on music. So much so that i used to listen to my dads tapes over and over again until i know song after song. This grew into a passion and from a passion it went into my heart. Today i play the guitar and i feel God has given me a talent for it too. So i like to help others learn by teaching them (if they listen to me lol) and also work with different bands and perform live. Its been my dream and i feel its all coming true. Im holding onto God though for direction in every way...

Well thats how i feel about it anyway.:)

I believe,

I believe that to say "Follow your heart" is like saying "look with your eyes" or "walk on your feet".
That is to say. . ."We all follow the heart" The question is which heart do we follow.
We all have the first heart. We follow our own desires, We seek our own will.
Others, those who have accepted Jesus as their LORD have the second heart. The regenerated, softened heart, The heart of Jesus.

For those the question becomes when told to "follow the heart" . . .

Which one???

Some times there is no doubt ,but other time it takes a conscience decission.

I know that I spend a lot of time trying to be sure of God's will in some things. As you point out, Cliff, we have more than one nature to contend with. My brain, being part of my physical body, is always eager to rationalize anything that the flesh wants to do. Because I am well aware of the really stupid things I can come up with, I never automatically trust my feelings or ideas.

But seeking and finding God's will is not always easy or automatic. If I am hungry, for example, it won't take long for me to be convinced that it must be God's will for me to eat, even if I have already decided to fast.

The Bible helps. Sometimes I can find a very clear pattern or principle in Scripture that helps to point the way, or even a plainly stated command that applies. At other times, I may sense the need for some direct help from God in making a decision.

Prayer and time spent meditating in the written Word always helps me to clear my head and to flush out my heart. Plus I know that God does direct the very thoughts, as well as the actual footsteps of all people at various times. Yet there are times when we seem to be tested, as King Saul was (when he kept failing to take direction from Samuel the prophet), to bring to light the content of our hearts.

I also remember Paul and Barnabas (Acts 15:36-41) when they were both following their hearts. They had been working together for some time, spreading the gospel and encouraging the believers, and had already shared some wonderful experiences. There's no question that these were God's men, that both walked in the Spirit. Yet they had a sharp disagreement over what to do with a younger disciple named Mark. Talking it out did not bring them together. Unable to agree, they split up and went in different directions.

Each man felt that he was doing the right thing. He was following his heart's strong convictions, and obeying the very passion given to him by God's own Spirit.

Was one right and the other wrong? Was God unhappy with the results? Did God's work suffer? My own belief is that God's will was done. I cannot know, here and now, what words were exchanged, or to what extent tempers may have flared. The very real result, though, is that the work of God went to twice as many places because the two men split up.

Following one's heart, even for the most sincere follower of Jesus Christ, can be a scary thing. Honest men and women will probably entertain some self doubt more than once after deciding on a course of action. No doubt, the enemy will come and attack the believer with fear and worry, whether the choice was the best one or not. But I believe that God is not only able, not merely willing, but infinitely faithful to undergird our steps with kindness and help, and rich blessings — even if we made something less than a perfect choice.

We live and walk by faith. We stand by grace. That faith is only good when it is firmly anchored in God through His Son, Jesus Christ. That grace flows into our lives each day because God is faithful, Scripture says, to see us through.

Jeremiah knew this great truth and said as much:

This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.
It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed,
because his compassions fail not.
They are new every morning:
great is thy faithfulness.
The LORD is my portion, saith my soul;
therefore will I hope in him.
The LORD is good unto them that wait for him,
to the soul that seeketh him. (Lamentations 3:21-25)

So I do my very best to discern and prove God's will. I try my best to flush out all the clutter of my own selfish feelings and ideas. And then I step forward in confidence. Not a confidence that I am intrinsically right or wise or inwardly good and sincere, but a living confidence that my God will help me, that my Shepherd will not leave me to my own devices, and that the mighty Savior who first found me when I was in complete darkness (and still had no real desire to please God), will continue to guide my soul homeward, giving light all along the way.

I can hardly concentrate when Joseph Prince is priching on tv... I always wait for the ame-hen! And start to goggle... :D
I can't help it (And neither can the rest of the chicks in our household.. Neither my cousin nor my aunt or Meme... :))

But we all still like what he priches and this one is just another good way of teaching us Gods will and plans for us...
