God’s will cannot be stopped!

God’s will cannot be stopped!

I know that this is a long proof and explanation but please bear with me on this one. :D

The main verse we will be looking at is Matthew 16:18

Matthew 16:18) And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Let's look at this verse as a child with simplicity, "And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church"

The Church is built upon the foundation of Christ Jesus

Colossians 1

13) Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

14) In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

We are as true believers already been translated into the kingdom of Christ, made fellow citizens with the saints and are part of the household of God

Ephesians 2

19) Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;

20) And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

Now also notice, this, are we in the process of being redeemed or have WE ALREADY BEEN REDEMED by the blood of our Lord and
Savior? The answer, we already have been redeemed (and now of course we wait for the resurrection)

Ephesians 2:1) And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins

So looking at this verse and many more of the such that we could, we see that we are currently already redeemed, else we would still be dead in our sins.

In Galatians 3:13 is states, "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us"

Now that we have established that we have been redeemed, that we who are in Christ are broken free from the condition of being dead in our sins and the law because of what He did for us on the cross, let us examine what we are alive to

John 14:6) Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Without a relationship with the Lord Jesus, can anyone every know the way to follow, meaning to actually follow it? No. Can any man without Christ know the truth of which to live, to follow after? No. Can any man without Christ know, that is to say have eternal life, what it is to truly possess it? No

So we conclude that only in Christ can a man know the way, the correct way in a world filled with the broad way; only in Christ can a man know the real truth, the richness, the beginning of the comprehension of deep truth; only in Christ can a man possess eternal life

So far we have concluded what is stated in the immediate above paragraph, and that we as true believers are redeemed, are not dead in our sins because of that redemption, that we in our current status, made fellow citizens with the saints and are part of the household of God, and that apart from Christ a man is lost not knowing the truth, not knowing the way, and does not have eternal life.

Now for the fourth part of John 4:16, "no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."

Apart from the Lord Jesus Christ, no man ever has a relationship with the Father.

Thus after all this we can conclude that all those in Christ, know the way because they truly know Christ, they know the truth even in a world filled with corruption, lies and falsehood, they have been redeemed and saved from the condition of being dead in sin, they have a relationship with the Father through Christ Jesus, and They have the life, eternal life in Christ Jesus. All of these things are true for all true believers

Seeing as we have established these things, let us move on the second part of Matthew 16:18, "the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."
Who is Christ talking about when He says "the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." Who else but the Church, the bride of Christ.
We are given countless warnings with the word if in them but I want you to see something that came upon me a couple days ago.

Hebrews 12

5And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:

Why?

6) For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

7) If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

8) But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

In verse 7 of Hebrews 12, enduring does not mean in the sense of those in groupA get chastised and withstood it; and then groupb gets chastised and does not withstand it. No it is purely talking about whether a person is receiving divine correction, or divine chastisement at all or not. Meaning that if a person, and I don't care how long they have claimed to have a relationship with Christ, with God; If they can just say I don't want to be a Christian anymore, if they can just up and leave the faith, and go back to the conformity of this God hating world under any circumstance, and not receive any correcting, and discipline from the Father to get them back on the correct path, the straight and narrow, then I say and tell you truly that they NEVER had their Father in heaven, nor a relationship with Him!

Hebrews 12:8) But if ye be without chastisement, whereof
all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

Mark my words, God will break His children, humbling them to bring them back to the truth, that they are dead and lifeless, weak, and helpless apart from God. What God said in Jeremiah 32:39-41 was speaking to Jerusalem saying

39) And I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may fear me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after them:

40) And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me.

41) Yea, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with my whole heart and with my whole soul.

BUT I say unto you truly, God is zealous for His chosen people, not just in Israel, not just in Judah, but for all those in the Church as well. When God said "Yea, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with my whole heart and with my whole soul."

Do you think that God would not make sure with His might, by all His power, that His elect will enter into the promise land of eternal life?

Do you really think that Christ is going to let any of His church, and I mean any of them perish in the gates of hell; that Christ who CANNOT LIE, stated with His own lips, "I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.", shall even let one member of the Church, a genuine, transformed born again, saved by his blood, drawn to Him and elected by the Father, regenerated by the Holy Spirit believer is going perish in the gates of hell, that the gates of hell shall prevail against them? I think not. People speak with many ifs, but I speak with many certainties, things of inevitability, things that are solid in scriptural teaching. Are we above heeding the warnings of God, No, but if we have been truly elected of God, He WILL persevere His elect, He WILL lead us to the promise land, we WILL see victory and be with God forever. IF we are TRULY his, God WILL uphold us, cause us to persevere. God upholds and strengthens His elect with a mighty hand, with power unbreakable.

Who can pluck, if God doesn’t will it to be plucked? Who can uproot when God wills that it be uprooted not? Who can escape from the presence of God, from the control of God who is absolutely sovereign in all majesty and power? When can the will of man override the absolute, going to happen, can’t return back void word that proceedeth from the mouth of the living God? I will say it again, “Mark my words, God will break His children, humbling them to bring them back to the truth, that they are dead and lifeless, weak, and helpless apart from God.” Will something that God wills to happen, any individual whom God elects to be saved not be saved under any circumstance? Nay, I tell you truly, the purpose that God has purposed WILL be executed.

Psalm 33:11) The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.

Proverbs 19:21) There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.

Isaiah 14:24) The LORD of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand

And how do we know that we are truly His, look at the book of 1 John and look what is said in 1 John 5:13) "These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God." Test ourselves in the light of scripture Hebrews 4:12) “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Oh my goodness was that good. If God wants something done, He will make sure it gets done with or without our help. How can anyone think about how you can stop the will of God. The one who created both Heaven and Earth, the one who is coming back to get us and take us home, the one who since before the foundation of the world formed us, selected us to be his children. Oh, how my spirit quickens for the day that he says, "Come up hither."

Thank you so much for that lesson.

I respectfully disagree. I acknowledge one’s right to their interpretation & opinion. However, the following is the product of my Bible study. I believe the Lord will never give up on us but we can give up on Him. We have many warnings that it is possible to fall away after one has come to the true knowledge of God. These warning are there for a reason, so we do not reject that free wonderful gift the Lord has given to us after we have already received it. I know the original discussion is in regards to the New Testament but here are also a few warning that were even given to the people during the Old Testament times that if they went against God after entering His covenant that they were able to break that covenant themselves. God would not break this covenant, the people would. (Exodus 19:5; Psalm 132:11-12; Jeremiah 33:19-21)

Example 1) In 2 Peter 2:20-22 we see that it is possible to escape the world through Christ and then return to the world.

2 Peter 2:20-22 (NKJV)
20 For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. 21 For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. 22 But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: “A dog returns to his own vomit,” and, “a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.”

Example 2) In 1 Timothy 4:1 we see that the Spirit expressly says some will depart from the faith. I take this to mean that these “some” must be part of the faith to be able to leave it.

1 Timothy 4:1 (NKJV)
1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons

Example 3) In James 5:19-20 we find that someone can fall from the truth and be brought back. Again, I do not see how someone can leave something they were never part of.

James 5:19-20 (NKJV)
19 Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, 20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.

Example 4) In Hebrews 3:12-15 we see that it is possible for one to depart from God. If one is not with God then they cannot depart from Him. We also see we must remain steadfast to the end. The instruction to remain steadfast until then end shows it is possible NOT to remain steadfast until the end.

Hebrews 3:12-15 (NKJV)
12 Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; 13 but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end, 15 while it is said: “ Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”

Example 5) In Matthew 24:10-13 we find we must endure until the end so that we can remain saved.

Matthew 24:10-13 (NKJV)
10 And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. 11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved.

Example 6) In 2 Peter 3:17 we see again it is possible to depart from God. One must be apart of something to depart form it.

2 Peter 3:17 (NKJV)
12 Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God

Example 7) In Acts 20:29-30 we see disciples (Christians) being drawn away. One must be part of something to be removed from it.

Acts 20:29-30 (NKJV)
29 For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. 30 Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves.

It is not God who can fall short, but it is man who can fall short.
Exactly, but God can always pick us right back up.

1 John 2:1 . . . "My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not.
And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous."

Hallelujah! He is so good!

:)

No doubt the Lord can pick us back up always having an outstretched hand; all we need is to take the opportunity of accepting that hand.

2 Peter 3:9 (NKJV)
9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

Amen to that!

I respectfully disagree. I acknowledge one’s right to their interpretation & opinion. However, the following is the product of my Bible study.

I am thankful that this is a well moderated forum and has so many mature members so I am not afraid if I say that, I too, respectully disagree to Cooper25's post.

There is one particular clause mentioned in the Bible. I rather not talk about it but I'll just give to verse for everyone to see:

For it is impossible to bring back to repentance those who were once enlightened—

those who have experienced the good things of heaven and shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the power of the age to come—

and who then turn away from God. It is impossible to bring such people back to repentance; by rejecting the Son of God, they themselves are nailing him to the cross once again and holding him up to public shame.

Heb 6:4-6

We would like to commend every one on the respectful way that you are conducting yourselves . Thank you .

These rules have not in any way been broken and are just put here as a reminder to all :

Common courtesy
Rule 2.1 Common courtesy and civil dialogue is expected from all participants. Common courtesy is a generally understood concept and too broad to fully define here. In short, if you have doubt on whether you should say something, DON'T!

Rule 2.2 If someone disagrees with you do not immediately jump to the conclusion that they are not truly saved just because they disagree, there are differences of opinion in translating Biblical doctrine.

God Bless .

who gives you free will.?and who can take your free will.?God is no fool.we will not always suffer.

God created the universe , the earth , and every living being . We can trust Him to handle the concerns in our life. God allows us to make our own decisions and then allows us to live with the consequences of our decisions ---- but God never abandons us and promises deliverance to those who trust in Him

God can take a hopeless situation ..... eg.... Abrahanm and Sarah being childless , and do amazing things if we simply trust and obey .

Terrible and unjust things may happen in your life .... another example ... Joseph , but God will bring about a greater good if we have faith in Him and His sovereign plan .

God's Will Can not be Changed.

Wow!! What a great forum!!

To Help out Let me give some useful things without a long bible study.

1: God's Will is subject to TWO things.
A) What is Written in the Word and can not be changed.
B) Individual lives that can be changed.

John_Jervis is correct.

In fact, Jesus asked if He would find faith on earth. That faith is subject to taking Heed what we hear and obeying the plan of God in our lives. God has a plan for everyone and there are no replacement parts to get the plan done.
Take Jesus for example, He ask for God to take the cup from him and walk away from the cross. No other man could ever take that position so the request for that prayer was denied. Jesus knew God's will anyway, and if there was another way he was all ears. The scriptures say Jesus was Obedient unto death. That means he had a choice and had he walked away or called a whole bunch of angels to save him then you and I would be in big trouble and this World lost.

God needs us to bring the Gospel to the nations. We have a body and legal right to operate on this earth. Satan came another way and is a thief. He has no legal body. Everything God does is though man speaking the Word. He confirms that Word with signs following. We have a choice to obey or not obey. Disobedience not only hurts us, but those the Word could have effected.

1Ti 2:3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
1Ti 2:4 who would have all men to be saved, and come to the knowledge of the truth. (ASV)

It is the Will of God that all be saved. Is everyone going to be saved? NO, even though it's his divine will.

Being Healed, prosperity, sharing the Word is not up to God. We have a roll to play and God will do his part if we step up in the power and Glory of the Lord with all authority and boldness doing our part.

Be blessed everyone.

John_Jervis is correct.
:eek::eek::eek:

The scriptures say Jesus was Obedient unto death. That means he had a choice
Very true. That's why God the Father was very pleased w/ Christ for being obedient.

We have a choice to obey or not obey.
Even in the old testament times, that is very clear:

I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life
Deut 30:19

God gave us 2 options. But He wants us to choose life.

Be blessed everyone.
God bless you.

Going to (hopefully) carefully and respectfully express my own opinion here.

I have often heard the argument that if a person leaves Christ for the world, and turns his back on Him, then he was never truly saved. Yet, the same who say this, usually always state that the only requirement for salvation is to say the sinner's prayer and mean it. These two statements (while simplified) are impossibly contradictory.

I have no doubt that there are some who pray for forgiveness and ask to receive Christ as their personal savior, are doing it for alternative reasons and are therefore not really saved. But, we cannot judge a man's intent. It's a cop-out statement IMO. I've known many people who sincerely came to the cross, and prayed for forgiveness, and then later were drawn away for various reasons. Nobody has a right to say they never meant it, because I promise you, they did. But, men's hearts change. We grow hard and cold under pressure. When they leave...will they return?

The Bible says that we are to repent. It also states that we are to continue to the end. It's very important to understand what repentance means. I think, we've simplified it too much because of our traditions. Salvation is much more than a single prayer of conviction. It is a life of servitude to a better master than the world offers us. Because, in the end, we are not judged in every moment by moment. God knows when we will die, and at THAT time, our lives will be judged. Complete. A prodigal son can return home. Has nobody ever lost faith? Has a child never run from home and returned?
