Why Should I Go to Church?

Praise God.

So, if you've already forgiven these people it does not necessarily mean you're still offended (no offense Brother Mike)

No offense taken Sister. It is the way I am looking at it.

I'll give you an example the Lord gave me.

my family came over to your house all the time, and we had dinner and our kids always played together. We fished, shopped, picnicked, and did lots of things with your family.

Well, one day my family came over and something was said that upset both families. We went away mad.

A week went by and you called, and told us you were sorry, we said we were sorry also. However, we did not come back over like we use to.

A few more weeks went by and you wondered why we kept making excuses about not coming over. You called us and we assured you we were not mad.

Years go by, and we still never came back over. We told you over and over we FORGAVE your family, but our actions speak different. Worse, we mention the incident again to anyone that will listen and tell people just how horrible you treated us.

Did we forgive? We said we did.

How much more a family if they be your bothers and sisters in Christ at the church.................................

Jesus Is Lord.

Just a thought on “not trusting Christians”

If a Christian does something to cause you to not trust them… they did not do it because the are a Christian… they did it because they are human, and humans make mistakes.

A Christian is “what” I am.
It’s not “who” I am.

Our father in heaven provided manna for Isrial all the while they were in the desert. The church is not for him.The chuch is not him and neither is the bible. Both the bible and the church are God's gift to us. Both are a way in which He conveys his nature ,love and plan for us. The church ,some form of gathering and communion in His name is our spiriual manna. nurishment for our soals

We can drive singularly through our faith stumbling falling, getting lost or we can seek out,use and profit from one of many gifts He has given to his children. That being communion with brothers and sisters.

Church is a gathering (where two or more are gathered in his name) Nobody has to go to it. No one is commanded to it. But just like a coat coat on a winters day we need it ,it profits us even if we find it disapointing, or bothersome.
When that happens (and it does often) try another congregation ,another group andother venue to commune with other believers.

Denadii Cho,

Don't give up, if the organized /institutional church or mega church is not what you need then look to smaller congregations, small groups or perhaps home churches, or possibly start your own home church with family and or freinds. It don't have to have assets schedules, a hyerarchy. Just a gathering of believers in his name. That is what church is. The rest is icing on the cake.

A brother to all a member of none. That's what I am.

I am not now nor have I been for over 9 years now a "Member" of any given congregation or denomination. But what I do is attend church with who ever asks me, and when ask I host/ or lead a home church. They come and go time and people change, but there is always some form of fellowship with other believers. I am (un-denominational).
This the manner in which the LORD has chosen for me. Each should find their own and strive to make of it what our lord desires for us, be that a mega church, a small church or a simple gathering of believers in the woods.
You don't have to wear a coat on a cold winters day ,neither do you have to go to church . But wisdom dictates that in both cases it is much wiser to do so.
In short my brother ,you don't have to but every one needs to in someway be connected to other believers. It is what is best for us.

I think some church simply is necessary. Paul writes that faith comes by hearing, and that is so important. And it's true, anytime I go to church I come back with more faith. Do you know lutheran churches? If they are standing in the word they preach Christ every sunday, reminding us to the cross where our sins are forgiven and where we have utter peace with God. If you get used to it, it's a great comfort.

Granted, not all churches work well. But we have the freedom to choose for ourselves a church which we feel comfortable at. Make use of that freedom, Denadii. You don't need to join every church, but some patient seeking I think would be in order for you.

Ok my real two cents ... He he .

Firstly , I have a feeling that Deni is not changing his mind cause he has not been there for X number of years so what ever I say will just go over his head anyways but for discussion sake here goes cause this is a discussion right ?

You will never , never find a perfect church and if you do let me know cause I would like to join .

Also people will be people and we are not looking at people as all fail cause we are all sinners and all hypocrites whether we like it or not . I am just the same as every one so don't think I am self righteous cause there is no such person and especially in the church .

We should not forsake the assembling of ourselves whether it be in a small group or the church .

Psalm 149:1
Praise the LORD. Sing to the LORD a new song, his praise in the assembly of the saints

Hebrews 10:25
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching

By gathering together we can support each other and you know all the verses about the body and each one being a part and if on member is sick ... pray for him ... one is mouring ... support etc.

Yes, there is discord in the body of Christ or the church but who puts the discord there ? Only one who does not want the church to prosper.

Going to church for some is just an outward appearance to show they are well for lack of a word " Goodie Goodie" and others go in the real spirit to worship our Lord and Saviour in Spirit and in Truth .

Some go to get what they say more of Jesus . While others go to worship our Lord and Saviour and give to Him what He deserves all our honour , all our praise and all our glory . Praise His name .

So why do you go to church is my question ? That is why I go to serve Him and to praise and honour Him ... Jesus Christ who died for me and gave His ultimate sacrifice for me .

I just go cause I can't wait to go. I go every time the doors are open. I go because God is there and has given me the opportunity to worship Him there. I know I can do that at home, but there's just something there that draws me. It is the aura of holiness. I don't usually look at the people cause I sit as far up front as I can. I go to soak in His presence.

Well, I had a great day in service today. We sang Amazing Grace and I just realized how much grace he has given to his children. And it is amazing, and undeserved yet, he gives it abundantly. I began to cry, it was like a dam burst and the dam was within me. Because no matter how I have screwed up, his amazing grace covers me. Theres something about being a part of the body of Christ, that I don't ever want to be apart from it. I go to give, and to receive his Amazing Grace. Can you receive it at home, Yes, most deffinetely, or in your vehicle, your yard. But, the body of Believers coming together to worship Jesus together, theres something awesome about it! Don't let the enemy steal what rightfully belongs to you, as a child of the King! Worship, the word and fellowship, these are gifts to us as believers. And I'm not gonna let no rock cry out because I haven't praised him! Praise him and worship him no matter where you are, for he is worthy. How amazing is his grace that he gives to each one of us who believe.

LoL Dusty. It went right over my head! But I got up on the roof and caught it along with the air mail. Actually I've been thinking about it but can't find a real reason to go. By real reason I mean one that makes me like the idea.

I love people but I've been raised to be very cautious of them. Then I've grown quite reclusive over the years from living/working alone for so many years.

God might want you to go.
You don’t have to like the idea, but if God wants you to go to Church, it might not be for you, it might be for the person He knows you are going to run into and are going to be able to help.

What’s in it for you?
Maybe nothing other than being obedient to God.
You should ask God if He wants you to go to Church. :)

In the end… it doesn’t matter much what we think.
It matters what God thinks.

Really good example BM, however I would surmise that you didn't really forgive me; you just said you did. The reason is if you're talking about me and what I did to others, well, you didn't forgive. And yes, it would seem you are still offended, but I think that's because you didn't really forgive. I guess I was saying that sometimes even if we forgave someone it might take us a while to trust them again if they really hurt us.

Laura:)

Amen .... Bold and I am not going to let a rock cry out in my place either .
Starting this new month we have a new theme ( As we do every month ) The theme for this month is " Running over " If you ever remember that little S. S. song ... " My cup is full and running over " When the Lord saved me . I'm as happy as can be .. my cup is full and running over .

Luke 6: 37-38..... 37"Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.
38Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."

As we follow God's plan of becoming givers instead of takers and giving all that we have and not just monitary gifts but ourselves in service , helping in our neibourhood, etc. generally having an attitude of giving , we will find that God honours that by giving back to us more than what we give ..... like He says pressed down and running over .

Anyways there is much more but will not bore you but to say that this morning when we were singing " Rain Down" the Spirit of God was so strong , as He rained down His blessings upon us . I was crying uncontrollably as He was filling me up .

There is something about being with a body of believers and the Holy Spirit being present that I just want to be there.

wow Deni!
I soooo much wish you could attend our lil church! We love having visitors! you would be hugged to peices though:)
I have been to many churches and u are very right in what u are saying. So many times u do not feel welcome and I feel that the love of the LORD should be in his house, and if that love is there, it is overflowing and everyone wants to share it.
Deni, you know what u have. All u need is the LORd in your heart, I do not feel it is mandatory in any means unless GOD lets you know he wants you and yours to attend.
God is merciful and loving and will guide and direct your paths, so just put all ur faith in him and go from there!
Blessings to you Deni

The Place to Find Guidance

The reason we should all go to church is so that we can find guidance, truth, and better understanding so that we can fullfill our potential for what is set out for us to do.

church is for people who read the bible, who try to do what Christ says.to know God is God,to thank him for his way and protection.we are the church, the building is just for meeting.our churches have changed from old times, they used to pull together and look after the sheep.

Michael wraps it all up in a nut shell ..... Yay team ....:D:D

"Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching. " Heb. 10:25. The Greek word translated "give up" speaks of desertion and abandonment.

If the Word of God tells us we are to meet together - then we are to do just that. When you go to a new Church, or even an old one, try to go with a word of encouragement to say to anyone who greets you.

Remember the early Church "devoted themsleves to the apostles teaching and to the fellowship to the breaking of bread and to prayer." Acts. 2:46

We all have our faults and failings and we take them to Church with us, let us go with encouragement in our hearts and a forgiving spirit and "in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others." Phil. 2:3-4

A dear friend of mine used to say "if you find the perfect Church leave it alone because it is perfect already, if you join you will spoil it".

God bless you all as we learn together.

You said The reason we should all go to church is so that we can find guidance, truth, and better understanding so that we can fullfill our potential for what is set out for us to do.

Ok I'll not kick this down. Where does the Holy Spirit come in? He lives inside each believer to be counsellor teacher etc. That being the case. Why go to church.

I agree with others here. One can go to home churches, fellowship groups form his own group etc. By the way; by my question I meant what I call the organized chruches. The official ones

We are getting some really well thought out answers here and a few "pastor answers" (reasons a church board might give)

True , true and true , The Holy Spirit is our teacher .

But by going to our place of worship we are pleasing God by assembling ourselves together for edification. How can we do that if we stay at home ? How can I join together with my brothers and sisters and be a blessings to them and they be a blessing to me if I stay at home ? How can I get a prophetic message from God from another church member if I stay at home? How can I worship God with the strength of other believers if I stay at home ? How can I get blessed by the Word of God that is being preached if I stay at home ? How can I be blessed by the worship music if I stay at home ? How can I pray with and for other believers who have problems in their lives and have come to the alter for prayer , if I stay at home ? How can I have communion ( bread and the wine ) if I stay at home ?

If we drew a line and put one half pros and one half cons .... which would be the bigger side.?

Psalm 122:1 says it best for me, I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord. I believe that I need to go to Church. It doesn't matter that people there don't act like I think they should all the time. I'm not going for any of them, I'm going to worship and praise my Heavenly Father who gave everything for me. He deserves my worship and everyone else's. If we go to Church for other reasons besides to worship God then we're going for the wrong reasons anyway.
