The new covenant

The Old Covenant was the Ten Commandment Covenant. Deut 4:13; Ex 34:28. The New Covenant is the Old Covenant engraved in our hearts and minds. Jer 31:31-34; Heb 8:10; 10:16 - An Internal Covenant. (We are called Abraham's seed in Ga 3:7,29)

"Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read by all men. Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshly tablets of the heart." 2 Cor 3:2,3.

#1 "Thou shalt have not other gods before Me."

#2 "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God AM a jealous God, visiting the iniquity (lawlessness) of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate Me: and showing mercy unto thousands of them that love Me and keep My commandments."

"Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry." 1 Cor 10:14; Ga 5:20; Col 3:5; 1 Thess 1:9; 1 John 5:21; Rev 9:20.

#3 "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh His name in vain." (It also means, to take His name lightly.)

"And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give Him glory." Rev 16:9; 1 Pe 4:14; Ro 2:24; Acts 4:12; Phil 2:9,10; Rev 13:6.

#4 "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour and do all thy work: but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy man servant, nor thy maid servant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it."

Jesus referred to Himself as "The Lord of the Sabbath." Mt 12:8; Mk 2:28; Lu 6:5. Jesus prophesied, that, the Sabbath would be kept during The Great Tribulation, and we are not there, yet. Mt 24:20. The children of Israel, Jesus, His disciples and the New Testament Christians kept the Sabbath holy. Mt 12:1,2,5,8,10,11,12; 24:20;28:1; Mk 1:21;2:23,24,27,28...Acts 1:12;13:14,27,42,44;15:21;16:13;17:2;18:4.

Isaiah prophesied, that, God's people will keep the Sabbath in His kingdom. Isa 66:22,23.

#5 "Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee."

"For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy." 2 Tim 3:2; Mt 10:21; Rom 1:30; Eph 6:1; Col 3:20...

#6 "Thou shalt not kill."

Jesus said, "...Thou shalt do no murder..." Mt 19:18; Mk 10:19; Lu 18:20; Rom 13:9; Ja 2:11...

#7 "Thou shalt not commit adultery."

Jesus said, "...Thou shalt not commit adultery..." Mt 19:18; Mk 10:19; Lu 18:20; Rom 13:9; Ja 2:11...

#8 "Thou shalt not steal."

Jesus said, "Thou knowest the commandments...Do not steal..." Mt 19:18; Mk 10:19; Lu 18:20...

#9 "Thou shalt not bear false witness."

Jesus said, "...Thou shalt not bear false witness..." Mt 19:18; Mk 10:19; Lu 18:20...

#10 "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his man servant, nor his maid servant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbor's."

"...Thou shalt not covet..." Ro 13:9; 7:7; 1Cor 5:10,11; 6:10; Eph 5:5; 1 Tim 3:3; 2 Tim 3:2; 2 Pe 2:14...

"As far as the east is from the west, so far hath He removed our transgressions ("of the law" 1 John 3:4) from us...to such as keep His Covenant and to those that remember His commandments to do them." PS 103.

"Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city." Rev 22:14.

Covenants have conditions.

Even in heaven, the Lord makes quite a statement about His Covenant:

"And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in His temple The Ark of His Testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail." Rev 11:19.

The was, only, One Covenant in The Ark - The Ten Commandment Covenant.

Let's talk about the New Covenant that was established by Jesus Christ dying on the cross for our redemption .

OUr New covenant is eternal when we reach out and accept Jesus Christ as our Saviour . OUr eternal salvation reaches beyond earthly relms when we have direct " face to Face " spiritual communion with Jesus Christ.

Christ gives us divine forgiveness and a peace that passess all understanding.

The people in the OT did not have what we have now . We are a blessed people through Jesus Christ .

The people in the OT did not have what we have now . We are a blessed people through Jesus Christ .
Amen.
Matthew 5:17 Jesus said "I have not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it.
Jesus was making it clear, that the law was not without meaning or purpouse, He had not come to "compete" with the Laws of God, He had come to fulfill them perfectly, something fallen man is not able to do.

The Pharisees believed that man could attain the heavenly kingdom by keeping the law. (By works.)
Christ made it clear, that his sacrificial atonement was sufficient, and that it was by faith alone that man could have salvation.

He addressed the Pharisees, and teachers of the law 6 times after that saying; "You have heard it said....... But I tell you....." Rejecting their belief that they can attain their own righteousness by keeping the law.

This is not to say that the law is no longer valid. It is still a sin to violate Gods law. Murder is a sin, stealing is a sin, lying is a sin, and they create seperation between God and the sinner today as then.

But the only solution to this human condition is faith in Christ to bridge that gap, not in attempting to keep the law perfectly.
The law is still effective in that it maintains control and good order.
1 Timothy 1:9
Romans 2:14-15.

and the law serves to accuse us and to show us our sin. (A miror)
Romans 3:20
Romans 7:7

But it is only through Christ that we can have salvation, not through the law.
1 John 4:9, 11.

That pretty much sums it up.

A new covenant based on love if I’m not mistaken.

Can’t get much better than that. :)

Praise God .... If we only trust and obey and believe . And like you said , Dean love is the greatest. We , like I said are a blessed people .... Amen !!!!!

I hope, that, you are not saying, that we can bow down and worship other gods, take His name in vain, profane His holy day, dishonor our parents, murder, commit adultery, steal, bear false witness, covet and walk in His Holy Spirit - that would be blasphemy.

Jesus said, "If ye love Me, keep My commandments." John 14:15.

Jesus said, "He that hath My commandments and keepeth them, he it is that loveth Me: and he that loveth Me shall be loved of My Father, and I will love him, and will manifest Myself to him." John 14:21.

"And this is love that we walk after His commandments. 2 John 6.

When Moses disobeyed the Lord and struck the rock, God charged him with unbelief. Num 20:12. When the children of Israel disobeyed the Lord, they were not able to enter The Promised Land, because of unbelief. Heb 3:19. Unbelief comes out of an evil heart. Heb 3:12.

Disobedience = Unbelief
Obedience = Faith

Rom 16:26 refers to "the obedience of faith."

"By faith Abraham...obeyed." Heb 11:8.

God spoke to Abraham: "And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed.

BECAUSE that Abraham obeyed My Voice (His Word), and kept My charge, My commandments and My laws." Gen 26:4,5.

"Even so faith if it hath not works is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works and I will show thee my faith by my works.

Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

Was not Abraham our father (Ga 3:7,29) JUSTIFIED BY WORKS when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? (In response to the command of God)

SEEST THOU HOW FAITH WROUGHT WITH HIS WORKS AND BY WORKS WAS FAITH MADE PERFECT?

And the Scripture was fulfilled which saith ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD (true faith and obedience), and it was imputed to him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

YE SEE THEN HOW THAT BY WORKS A MAN IS JUSTIFIED, AND NOT BY FAITH ONLY...For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also." James 2.

True faith always is in obedience to the Word of God.

"But be ye DOERS of the Word, and not hearers only, DECEIVING your own selves." Ja 1:22

I hope, that, you are not saying, that we can bow down and worship other gods, take His name in vain, profane His holy day, dishonor our parents, murder, commit adultery, steal, bear false witness, covet and walk in His Holy Spirit - that would be blasphemy.

You might have to be more specific on this one.
I don’t see anyone saying that… or anything close to that.
Did I miss something?

"Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: FOR SIN IS THE TRANSGRESSION OF THE LAW.

And ye know that He was manifested to TAKE AWAY OUR SINS; and in Him is no sin.

Whosoever abideth in Him (walks in His Spirit) sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen Him, NEITHER KNOWN HIM.

Jesus said, "Not every one that SAITH, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven, but he that DOETH the will of My Father, which is in heaven.

MANY will say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Thy name? and in Thy name have cast out devils? and in Thy name done many wonderful works?

And then will I profess unto them, I NEVER KNEW YOU: depart from Me, ye that work iniquity." (lawlessness) Mt 7:21-23.

"And hereby we do know that we know Him, IF WE KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS.

He that saith, I KNOW HIM, and keepeth not His commandments is a LIAR and the Truth is not in him: But whoso keepeth His Word in him verily is the love of God perfected: (Again, the Commandments are compared with His Word) hereby we do know that we are in Him." 1 John 2:3-5.

Little children let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as He is righteous.

He that committeth sin is of the Devil; for the Devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose was the Son of God manifested, that He might destroy the works of the Devil.

Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for His seed remaineth in him and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

When we walk in His Spirit, we do not sin.

In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the Devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother." 1 John 3.

The Apostle John makes it pretty plain, if we want to have eternal life, we must obey His commandments:

""Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they may have RIGHT to the tree of life, AND MAY ENTER IN through the gates into the city." Rev 22:14.

I hope, that, you are not saying, that we can bow down and worship other gods, take His name in vain, profane His holy day, dishonor our parents, murder, commit adultery, steal, bear false witness, covet and walk in His Holy Spirit - that would be blasphemy.
I'm not sure who you were addressing Herald, but If I gave anyone that impression, let me offer my most sincere apologies as that was not my intent in any way.

In fact, quite the opposite, if we ever begin to believe that we can in any way attain our own salvation, by our own works, and our own self-rightiousness and our own adherance to the law, then we would in fact have placed ourselves above God, and above the atonement of Christ.

That would be idolatry.

Christ finished the job 100%. (It is finished) (Salvation by faith alone.)
To say that He only got the job partially done, and we have the responsibility to complete His work of atonement, (Faith plus works) THAT would be idolatry and that was NOT what I was saying. :)

Again, please accept my apologies if I came across that way.

Again, in Psalm 119, the word, "Word," is used interchangeably with, "law," commandments," "judgments," "precepts," "statutes," "testimonies."

His Word = His law.

"A NEW HEART also will I give you, and A NEW SPIRIT will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

AND I WILL PUT MY SPIRIT within you, and CAUSE YOU to walk in My statutes, and ye shall keep My judgments and do them." Ezek 36:26,27.

When we are born again and have His Spirit within us, we are empowered by His Spirit to obey His Word/His law. That is what "walking in His Spirit" is all about. The Holy Spirit will never lead us into sin, or, "the transgression of the law." 1 John 3:4.

It isn't about self righteousness, it is about obeying the Word of God.

Are you saying that faith will manifest itself as good works?

Yes, I agree completely! :)

But good works are the RESULT of faith, not the cause, and faith is the only means of salvation.

Faith is a gift from God, not the result of mans actions.

No one said, that works cause faith.

"So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God." Rom 10:17.

Our works testify to our faith and obedience to the Word of God.

No one said, that works cause faith.
Good. I'm glad I didn't misunderstand that.
Romans 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

Again, it is by faith alone that we are saved, and not by works of the law. (So that no man shall boast.)

But I am not attempting to imply that good works and a strict adherance to the law are somehow unimportant.

It would be very difficult, if not impossible for someone to remain focused on Christ, and to lead others to Christ if we lived in a lawless society.

Imagine trying to develop good spiritual discipline and walking in the ways of the Lord if a mans wife was commiting adultery, his children were stealing from him, his neighbors were lying to him, etc. etc.

God does not want those sins to distract us from His saving Grace, and for that reason, the law is still in place. As Jesus said, He did not come to abolish the law. He came to fulfill it on our behalf.

"I AM CRUCIFIED WITH CHRIST: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by the FAITH of the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me." Ga 2:20

"What shall we say then? SHALL WE CONTINUE IN SIN THAT GRACE MAY ABOUND? God forbid. HOW SHALL WE THAT ARE DEAD TO SIN LIVE ANY LONGER THEREIN?" Rom 6:1.

Yep!! :)

Who made the promise? Man or God?
Who paid the price? Man or Christ?

There is nothing left to do.
(It IS FINISHED)

I can KNOW that I am saved, not by my own works, or by the laws of man, but because Christ said so. And I know that Christ IS God, and that God is ever faithful to His Word.

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves:

Great News Isn't it!!! :)

Many Christians think, that, they can sin, sin, sin and, still, enter into His kingdom. But, that is not what Jesus said, He said, that, the lawless will not enter into His kingdom. Mt 7:21-23.

He calls the Catholic/Protestant religious system, "The Mother of harlots." Rev 17. She has traded much of the Word of God for her traditions.

"And I heard another voice from heaven saying, COME OUT OF HER, MY PEOPLE that ye be not partakers of her sins ("the transgression of the law" 1 John 3:4) and that ye receive not of HER PLAGUES. (Interesting)

For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities." (lawlessness) Rev 18:4,5

Jesus said, "My sheep hear My voice and I KNOW THEM and they follow Me." John 10:27

How do we "Come out?" By doing as the Bereans: "These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the Word with all readiness of mind, searching the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so." Acts 17:11.

When what is taught in my church does not line up with Scripture, I speak up. Some like it, others don't, because they are caught up in tradition.

The denomination system is going down to defeat. Just as Judas arose from within the disciples, so The Antichrist will arise from within the apostate church.

I posted, "Daniel, Revelation & World History Reveal The Antichrist," and "Revelation 13:11 - Protestant America." They are archived on many sites. If you want to read them visit www.thelordiscoming.co.nr. ("Herald's Corner")

Herald,
I am really enjoying this conversation.
Please understand that it is late here and I must get to bed.

I would like to continue tomorrow, especially with your reference to Revelation 17 and what John was speaking of in terms of the apostate religious system, Babylon, (Rome), the gold, stones and pearls as they relate to faith, and especially the 7 kings, (The 5 fallen, and the one to come at Christ's return.)

Please check back in here again, as I promise to continue in our discussion, it is just that I really need to take care of a clogged drain, and then get to bed for the evening.

God bless you, and I thank you again for the discussion.

In service to our risen Lord.

Chris

Herald, I took the time to go to and to read your web site.
You are obviously very passionate in your service to Christ, and in your concern for the souls of God's children.

May God bless you richly.

You and I do not see eye to eye on a few points.
I offer to you my perspective in the following, rather lenghty post, but I pray that by understanding one another, you and I will both grow closer to our living and risen Lord, and that perhaps, in His grace, others may also grow closer to Him by hearing both of our perspectives.

Many Christians think, that, they can sin, sin, sin and, still, enter into His kingdom. But, that is not what Jesus said, He said, that, the lawless will not enter into His kingdom. Mt 7:21-23.

Absolutely correct. There is a destructive and pervasive attitude that Christ died for my sins, and therefore I can do whatever I find pleasing.
Paul addresses this very issue in Corinth.
1st Corinthians 6:9 Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.
The mantra, or well known slogan of the time was “Everything is permissible for me.”
We still hear it today.
Today, people say, “I can do whatever I want, as long as it doesn’t affect YOU!”
“I can take dope, I can get an abortion, I can prostitute myself, have homosexual relationships, etc.”
And in many places, Prostitution, drugs, abortion, homosexuality, are in fact legal by the laws of the land.
But they are not legal by the law of God, and God trumps man’s law.
Paul was clear in 2 Timothy 2. No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs—he wants to please his commanding officer.
We are to live lives pleasing to God. If we place the laws of man above the laws of God, we have created a false idol and have violated the 1st Commandment.

He calls the Catholic/Protestant religious system, "The Mother of harlots." Rev 17. She has traded much of the Word of God for her traditions.

Actually Revelation 17 is speaking of the woman that John had witnessed in the desert, sitting on the scarlet beast that was covered with blasphemous names. It had 7 heads and 10 horns.
This was the world government at the time.
The “10” Kings who had not yet received the kingdom. And the “7” heads, were the rulers of the Roman Empire. (Babylon)
Babylon, (Rome) was the primary source of false religions.
(See Genesis 10, “Babel” confusion, wrongness, attempting to reach God by works, (Building a tower) and remember that the history of Babylon was the source for the writings of Daniel.

Yes, Semiramis, who had a son named Tammuz who was the false prophet, the fulfillment of the seed which had been given to the first woman, Eve.

Babylonian religious practices referred to the mother and child as god. They had formed the “Order of Virgins” who were religious prostitutes.
They believed that Tammuz, had been killed by a wild animal, and then restored to life, thus fulfilling the promise of the resurrection. They worshiped Baal, sacrificed children to him, burning them alive. The priests of Pergamos, (One of the 7 churche’s of Asia, “7” heads) wore crowns in the shape of fish, in honor of the “Fish God” and their crowns bore the words; “Keeper of the bridge.” That was believed to be the bridge between fallen man and God.
This is what John was denouncing in Revelation 17-18.
(Not the Catholics and the Lutherans, they weren’t around yet.) J

Jesus said, "My sheep hear My voice and I KNOW THEM and they follow Me." John 10:27
Yes, those who are responsive to His teachings, and who follow His commands. This is done by faith alone, and not by going through the motions. It is one of the basis of the doctrine of the elect.

How do we "Come out?" By doing as the Bereans: "These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the Word with all readiness of mind, searching the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so." Acts 17:11.

The Berean Jews were more “noble” more critical of Paul than even the Thessalonians. The Bereans scrutinized every word Paul said. Many of them understood the Word of God, and Jesus Christ as the fulfillment of the prophesy. They accepted Christ as the completion of the Torrah and even established the fledgling church in the area while Paul continued to spread the Word to the south. (In Athens, with Silas and Timothy, then to Corinth, etc.)

Some of the Bereans were jealous of Paul, and failed to understand his message. They believed that salvation was only available to those who had proper knowledge having studied the Torrah, this was of course Gnosticism.
Many were called, but few were chosen.

When what is taught in my church does not line up with Scripture, I speak up. Some like it, others don't, because they are caught up in tradition.

Tradition is important, but it cannot take the place of God. Tradition serves to maintain good order, and remind our future of the teachings of the past. It helps to make the church and worship environment a comfortable and reassuring experience. All things are good, when they serve to praise and glorify God.

The denomination system is going down to defeat. Just as Judas arose from within the disciples, so The Antichrist will arise from within the apostate church.

No it isn’t. I teach catechism. Very often by the end of my classes I discover that one soul will grow better in a Baptist church. Some will find a warm and beneficial environment in a Methodist church, when that happens, I take them and introduce them to the Pastor of that church, and I remain available to serve them, and to serve Christ, but I turn them over to the competent hands of these other servants that Christ has called to work through. Others will grow just fine here in our church.

My responsibility as a called servant of Christ, is to teach His Holy Word. Christ is responsible for what takes place after that, I do my work, and I let Him do His.

I posted, "Daniel, Revelation & World History Reveal The Antichrist," and "Revelation 13:11 - Protestant America." They are archived on many sites. If you want to read them visit www.thelordiscoming.co.nr. ("Herald's Corner")

I did read it.
Go in peace my friend, and brother in Christ. :)
