What does it mean " Perfect Peace " ?

Isaiah 26:3
3 You will keep in perfect peace
him whose mind is steadfast,
because he trusts in you.

Do we really know what Perfect Peace means ?

This is a question that the Holy Spirit dropped in my heart this A. M.
I know that when I put my whole trust in Him , knowing that all things work together for my good , that I have peace in my heart . But is it perfect peace .? That is what I am looking for ..... Perfection .

How do we obtain perfect peace . Well my brothers and sisters , that is what I am looking for so all thoughts are welcome .

Matthew 14
28And Peter answered him, "Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water." 29He said, "Come." So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. 30But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, "Lord, save me." 31Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?" 32And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. 33And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, "Truly you are the Son of God."

“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross” (Hebrews 12:2)

"Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ." Ephesians 6:23

"[6:19-24] The gospel was a mystery till made known by Divine revelation; and it is the work of Christ's ministers to declare it. The best and most eminent ministers need the prayers of believers. Those particularly should be prayed for, who are exposed to great hardships and perils in their work. Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith. By peace, understand all manner of peace; peace with God, peace of conscience, peace among themselves. And the grace of the Spirit, producing faith and love, and every grace. These he desires for those in whom they were already begun. And all grace and blessings come to the saints from God, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Grace, that is, the favour of God; and all good, spiritual and temporal, which is from it, is and shall be with all those who thus love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity, and with them only." Matthew Henry

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Phillipians 4:6-7

"[4:2-9] Let believers be of one mind, and ready to help each other. As the apostle had found the benefit of their assistance, he knew how comfortable it would be to his fellow-labourers to have the help of others. Let us seek to give assurance that our names are written in the book of life. Joy in God is of great consequence in the Christian life; and Christians need to be again and again called to it. It more than outweighs all causes for sorrow. Let their enemies perceive how moderate they were as to outward things, and how composedly they suffered loss and hardships. The day of judgment will soon arrive, with full redemption to believers, and destruction to ungodly men. There is a care of diligence which is our duty, and agrees with a wise forecast and due concern; but there is a care of fear and distrust, which is sin and folly, and only perplexes and distracts the mind. As a remedy against perplexing care, constant prayer is recommended. Not only stated times for prayer, but in every thing by prayer. We must join thanksgivings with prayers and supplications; not only seek supplies of good, but own the mercies we have received. God needs not to be told our wants or desires; he knows them better than we do; but he will have us show that we value the mercy, and feel our dependence on him. The peace of God, the comfortable sense of being reconciled to God, and having a part in his favour, and the hope of the heavenly blessedness, are a greater good than can be fully expressed. This peace will keep our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus; it will keep us from sinning under troubles, and from sinking under them; keep us calm and with inward satisfaction. Believers are to get and to keep a good name; a name for good things with God and good men. We should walk in all the ways of virtue, and abide therein; then, whether our praise is of men or not, it will be of God. The apostle is for an example. His doctrine and life agreed together. The way to have the God of peace with us, is to keep close to our duty. All our privileges and salvation arise in the free mercy of God; yet the enjoyment of them depends on our sincere and holy conduct. These are works of God, pertaining to God, and to him only are they to be ascribed, and to no other, neither men, words, nor deeds." Matthew Henry

Matthew 6:25 "For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?

Ephesians 6:18 With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints,

1 Timothy 2:1 First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men,

1 Timothy 5:5 Now she who is a widow indeed and who has been left alone, has fixed her hope on God and continues in entreaties and prayers night and day.

Pray withou ceasing, meditate on the Lord

Isaiah 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.

2 Corinthians 10:5 We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ,

Philippians 1:1 Paul and Timothy, bond-servants of Christ Jesus, To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, including the overseers and deacons:

Philippians 4:9 The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

Philippians 4:19 And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:21 Greet every saint in Christ Jesus. The brethren who are with me greet you.

Colossians 3:15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful.

"[3:12-17] We must not only do no hurt to any, but do what good we can to all. Those who are the elect of God, holy and beloved, ought to be lowly and compassionate towards all. While in this world, where there is so much corruption in our hearts, quarrels will sometimes arise. But it is our duty to forgive one another, imitating the forgiveness through which we are saved. Let the peace of God rule in your hearts; it is of his working in all who are his. Thanksgiving to God, helps to make us agreeable to all men. The gospel is the word of Christ. Many have the word, but it dwells in them poorly; it has no power over them. The soul prospers, when we are full of the Scriptures and of the grace of Christ. But when we sing psalms, we must be affected with what we sing. Whatever we are employed about, let us do every thing in the name of the Lord Jesus, and in believing dependence on him. Those who do all in Christ's name, will never want matter of thanksgiving to God, even the Father." Matthew Henry

1 Peter 1:5 who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

"So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure: Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer:" II Thessalonians 1:4-5

"and we sent Timothy, our brother and God's fellow worker in the gospel of Christ, to strengthen and encourage you as to your faith, so that no one would be disturbed by these afflictions; for you yourselves know that we have been destined for this." I Thessalonians 3:2-3

"Pray without ceasing." I Thessalonians 5:17

"[5:16-22] We are to rejoice in creature-comforts, as if we rejoiced not, and must not expect to live many years, and rejoice in them all; but if we do rejoice in God, we may do that evermore. A truly religious life is a life of constant joy. And we should rejoice more, if we prayed more. Prayer will help forward all lawful business, and every good work. If we pray without ceasing, we shall not want matter for thanksgiving in every thing. We shall see cause to give thanks for sparing and preventing, for common and uncommon, past and present, temporal and spiritual mercies. Not only for prosperous and pleasing, but also for afflicting providences, for chastisements and corrections; for God designs all for our good, though we at present see not how they tend to it. Quench not the Spirit. Christians are said to be baptized with the Holy Ghost and with fire. He worketh as fire, by enlightening, enlivening, and purifying the souls of men. As fire is put out by taking away fuel, and as it is quenched by pouring water, or putting a great deal of earth upon it; so we must be careful not to quench the Holy Spirit, by indulging carnal lusts and affections, minding only earthly things. Believers often hinder their growth in grace, by not giving themselves up to the spiritual affections raised in their hearts by the Holy Spirit. By prophesyings, here understand the preaching of the word, the interpreting and applying the Scriptures. We must not despise preaching, though it is plain, and we are told no more than what we knew before. We must search the Scriptures. And proving all things must be to hold fast that which is good. We should abstain from sin, and whatever looks like sin, leads to it, and borders upon it. He who is not shy of the appearances of sin, who shuns not the occasions of it, and who avoids not the temptations and approaches to it, will not long keep from doing sin." Matthew Henry

There is ONE who IS PERFECT and WHO IS THE PRINCE OF PEACE.

Micah 5:5 This One will be our peace. When the Assyrian invades our land, When he tramples on our citadels, Then we will raise against him Seven shepherds and eight leaders of men.

Ephesians 2:14 For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall,

Colossians 1:20 and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven.

Luke 2:14 "Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased."

I think we can know what it is. I don’t think we, with our finite minds, can fully understand it though. I’m sure you’ve experienced perfect peace at times, but it probably didn’t last very long. Have you ever held a baby in your arms and you were able to block out the entire world surrounding you? If you have, and you were thinking about how God created that baby…

Or if you were in praise and worship… the church was full of people… but you felt like it was just you and God…

Yes, I think you have experienced perfect peace before Dusty, but sadly, we just can’t get away from all the worldly things that surround us and that peace gets interrupted.

No interruptions in heaven though. :D

Yah ..... I have, Who but just wondered if there is a different between peace and perfect peace .... but very good examples .... Thanks

The word perfect means

1) complete, whole, entire, sound
a) complete, whole, entire
b) whole, sound, healthful
c) complete, entire (of time)
d) sound, wholesome, unimpaired, innocent, having integrity
e) what is complete or entirely in accord with truth and fact

Apply this to most verses and look what you get.

I would say that His perfect peace is something that He gives us and is only found in His presence because He is the Prince of Peace; Sar Shalom.
John 14:27
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
John 16:33
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
Romans 3:16-18
Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known: There is no fear of God before their eyes.

Exodus 33:21-23
21And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock: 22And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by:

We can "hide" in Him and that peace that He gives us does not need to be interrupted; we experience His peace in His presence as we grow in grace and knowledge of the One who is our Prince of Peace. JESUS.

:groupray:

Amen , Worshipper .... Thanks . The Prince of Peace . As I rest in Him He gives me the strength to carry on .

The scripture I am thinking about is this:

John 14:27
Peace I leave with you; My [own] peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.]

This was Jesus talking! I believe no one can have real peace if they keep their eyes on their circumstances or the trouble around them! Perfect peace means the peace that comes from Jesus which has nothing to do with out side influences or circumstances but rather it is based on the knowledge that, to put it simply, He's got our backs!

Laura:)

Amen , Laura . You all have given me some really good scriptures . And it is so true that Peace only comes through Jesus Christ and Him alone .

I often wonder about People in the world . How do they cope with out the Lord . I guess that is why we see so many on drugs and alcohol and trying all other kinds of religions.

I think that striving for perfect peace in the LORD may be what he is asking, I really am not sure, but as long as we are in the flesh I believe striving to be perfect and have that perfect peace may be hard, because we still have so much other things in our lives that distracxt us from that type of peace. But, with the LORD nothing is impossible so it may be possible.

Very thought provoking Dusty!

Hi Dusty, Yes, I have often asked myself that same question "Just how do people in the world cope without the Lord". I look at my unsaved friends and see all their "coping" strategies - often relying on their own strong characters, or taking strength from (often Christian) friends. Even then they are bowed down with worry and fear, but remain closed to the Gospel.

Those lovely words of Isiah 26:3 have already been quoted: "You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord for ever, for the Lord, the Lord, is the Rock eternal". So simple, yet so profound. Perfect peace is found where perfect Trust operates. Praise the Lord.

May He bless us as we learn together.

What perfect peace means to me.

Perfect peace is being with the son as the son is with the father. When we are one with our father, It brings about a perfct peace.
It is by virue of who he is that we are often blessed with moments, periods of perfect peace. Times and situations that would other wise defeat, devoure, distroy us we take in perfect peace of heart and mind.

It truely is of the heart and soal and can be totaly oblivious to the situation. It is knowing that what ever the experience, what ever the situation that He is in comeplete control, and doing what is eternaly best for us.

Thse periods of perfect peace are a gift a grace of the one who loves us and longs to have us with him forever. they are thesites into our eternity in his presence.

The experience is so great so comforting, so lifting that no matter how short or long we long to be there .
But at last for us now they are only glimpes, shaddows of the glory of his presence for all eternity. As much as we from the heart want this perfect peace to never end it must as we are still in the world ,still in the flesh, still enduring this world for his purpose.

It is knowing that one is exactly were He wants us to be.

Take from our life all tht He seeks us to. learn, enjoy, strive, and be comforted in all that he brings our way and we will know all the perfect peace that he wills for us in this world.

As much as we would love to live always in His perfect peace we cannot . Not at this time not in this world. but thank God we can know what eternity brings the true perfect peace the perfect peace that never fades, never falls short, never ends.

Sincerely His
and yours
Clff
