Genesis and Sodom

Genesis and Sodom

Genesis 19:26) But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt

looked back - What caused her to look back? Weakness and curiosity, she was not focused on her destination, but instead wanted to look back behind her. In our lives we cannot allow weakness to take hold of us. Even a bit of curiosity is hurtful, when it is applied to the wrong things can have disastrous results. Lot’s wife looked back for only a second and it cost her her life. In life if we want to reach the finish and overcome, we can not look back nor turn toward evil on ether side of us. Proverbs 4:27)turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil)), yet how many people don’t heed this warning, looking back to the ways of worldliness, sin, and lust which will only hinder us, if not stop us altogether. We need to break free from the “bondage of sin” that infest this world. It is part of the same world that is going to be destroyed, like Sodom and Gomorrah. What hope does one have if they still are entangled, trapped, and snared by sin? Yes, God is forgiving and merciful but that is not a license to sin. People have forgotten that God is a consuming fire, whose wrath comes upon the children of disobedience. Having our mind focused, being distracting on the past, wanting to look back and turn back will be a stumbling block, and sin is it. When someone looks back anywhere and chooses to sin or go back to sin, what is that saying? Lot’s wife couldn’t help but look back, but Lot on the other hand did not look back, but just kept running straight, fleeing from Sodom.

Sodom was a place of corruption, so why by any means look back to destruction. This is what people are doing each and every time they turn to sin, submitting to it. Looking back and are petrified, stiff, and dead in sin, unable to move like Lot’s wife. Even a little glance or turning back to the sinful nature is harmful. The cost are real and the stakes are high, except the wage is your soul and sin is the death of it. “The soul that sinneth, it shall die”, “what doth it profit a man if he gain the whole world, and yet he receive him not whom God hath ordained, and he lose his own soul, and he himself be a castaway?” Submitting to sin is like casting away your soul for a cheap thrill, temporal substance which will not last long, but only a short time and past away. My people, my fellow Christians, we must run for eternal substance, that which is pure, striding against sin and all appearance of iniquity. “thou hatest all workers of iniquity”, this is what God’s word says, again, “God is angry with the wicked every day”, again, “but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth”. God’s love is shown to only those who obey, and turn from the ways of sinfulness.

People saying God’s love is unconditional, they are lying and fooling their selves, and if they pass it on, are fooling others as well. 2 Timothy 3:13) But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.)) Many shall be deceived and those deceived shall deceive others. “And shall begin to smite his fellow servants”, this is what many are doing teaching doctrinal errors, like leniency on the avoidance of sin in one’s life or teach that one can be saved by saying I believe, but don’t realize that this only qualifies that person to potentially be a child of God, but by no means ensures nor guarantees their election into grace. This is the truth, stay away from sin because “when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin when it is finished bringeth forth death”, no in-between, no mid way, but we have to by the grace of God leave it behind us and not look back at it lest we become dead in it, dead in sin rather then dead to sin because life is short.

I beg to differ.

By your statement do you mean that there are things we must do before God will love us?

hmm I understand where you're going copper.

God says if we love Him then we will obey His commandments, and they're not grievous.
I believe we're talking about different unconditional love maybe ? God views it as different than us, it's not superficial the way He loves us. We are superficial humans.

if we don't follow His commandments HMS I don't believe He will love us. and those who hate Him, He hates also. the phrase 'Jesus loves you' is being thrown at anyone and is not even true. Jesus loves those who seek Him in truth and are willing to accept Him at one point, He knows. Jesus is LORD. He loves those who love Him and hates those who hate Him.

I think copper is saying that unconditional love is a deception just like how people say God loves everyone, but they forget to mention "loves everyone who come to Him"

So there are people Jesus did not die for on the cross?

Jesus still loves those who hate Him and we are commanded to do the same.

Matthew 4:43-4 (NLT)
“You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy. But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you!

to me it says Jesus died for those who will come to Him, which is only known to Him. that means we should preach to everyone because we don't know whom will be saved.
whosoever believeth in Him.... shall be saved.

Romans
5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were
yet sinners, Christ died for us.

God is love.

1. His Love is Unlimited.

2. His Love is Unfailing.

3. His Love is Unsearchable.

4. His love is Consistent.

5. His love is Sovereign.

6. His love is Unconditional.

7. His Love is Unchanging.

Luke
17:32 Remember Lot’s wife.

Yes, we are to preach the Gospel to ALL because only God knows who will ultimately choose to believe and be saved.

1 John 4:9-11 (NLT)

God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.
Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other.

People saying God’s love is unconditional, they are lying and fooling their selves, and if they pass it on, are fooling others as well.

You might want to watch it a little! Some "little one" in Christ might believe this off the wall WRONG statement and "wouldn't it be better for someone to be thrown into the lake with a heavy stone around their necks that to face God if they caused even one of these little ones to stumble"? I'm sorry if I seem harsh, but I will not tolerate ANYONE to say that about our God! "For God so loved the world that He sent His ONLY begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life" I think that's UNCONDITIONAL love, wouldn't you say?!

Um, let's see... He loved us while we were still sinners!! The Word says that if WE love Him we obey His commandments not that He loves us only if we do! C'mon people, this is beginners Christianity 101! If He didn't love us why would He die for us? Doesn't even make any sense! "Forgive them Father for they do not know what they are doing!" I'd say that is true LOVE for those who did NOT deserve it! Wouldn't you?

must being a sinner include hating God?
can't a man be a sinner without hating God?

the man who cursed the LORD got stoned to death.
the man who sinned against God got forgiven when repented.
that is my point
this has to do with situation analysis sister :)

but you're right about what you said.

Those who love Him joy in following the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit leads us and guides in all truth.

So all those who love Him do indeed obey Him.
But all who obey Him however do not love Him.
One is a living relationship , the other dead religion.

A lot of it is attitude but the flesh is basically anti-christ . That includes religious flesh which seeks to elevate itself and soothe it's conscience.

Romans 3
Galatians 3

God never changes,

"You only have I chosen among all the families of the earth; Therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities." Amos 3:2

"and you have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons, "MY SON, DO NOT REGARD LIGHTLY THE DISCIPLINE OF THE LORD, NOR FAINT WHEN YOU ARE REPROVED BY HIM; FOR THOSE WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE DISCIPLINES, AND HE SCOURGES EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVES." Hebrrews 12:6

Deuteronomy 7:6 "For you are a holy people to the LORD your God; the LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for His own possession out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.

9Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began," IITimothy 1:9

"For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; "not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them."

God loves His elect, who have always been His. He sees us as redeemed in Christ. If you don't think His work was finished, or He's only a partial redeemer, defective, inadequite, or you'd rather trust your own belief or works, you are taking your eyes off of Jesus, the Author and Perfector of our faith. At the end, the Sons of God will be revealed. Through the law comes the knowledge of sin, no flesh will be justified in His sight. We are to keep the law, the fact that God's Spirit enables to do so is evidence of a saving faith by regeneration by the Holy Spirit by God's grace. Yet we cannot say we keep the law perfectly, but Christ has, He is the just and justifier. "Freewill has never sent a soul to heaven, but it's sent many a soul to hell." C.H.Spurgeon

All of our righteousness is like filthy rags in His sight. Have we been given a new heart? If we have we will want to seek His will. We will want to love God and keep His commands. Love casts out fear.

"must being a sinner include hating God?
can't a man be a sinner without hating God?"

scricpture shows natural man cannot love God until He gives him a new heart and regenerates him. David sinned and gave the Gentiles an ocassion to blaspheme the Lord and Nathan as God's ambassador told him he had despised the Word of the Lord by doin evil in His sight.

"And although you were formerly alienated and hostile in mind, engaged in evil deeds, yet He has now reconciled you in His fleshly body through death, in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach--if indeed you continue in the faith firmly established and steadfast, and not moved away from the hope of the gospel that you have heard, which was proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, was made a minister." IColossians 1:21-23

"You adulterers! Don't you know that friendship with the world means hostility with God? So whoever wants to be a friend of this world is an enemy of God." James 4:4

'Why have you despised the word of the LORD by doing evil in His sight? You have struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword, have taken his wife to be your wife, and have killed him with the sword of the sons of Ammon.
'Now therefore, the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised Me and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.'
"However, because by this deed you have given occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born to you shall surely die." II Samuel 12:9-10, 14

2 Samuel 12:5 Bible Commentary

1Pe 1:2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and

The first three words put all that in perspective- we are elect according to foreknowledge. God chooses us because He see's that our hearts will turn to Him in love. His sacrifice was for all but not all would have Him.

Not at all scricptural, to 'foreknow' as used there like Adam 'knew' his wife. Love, not saw we would be less evil sinners who would one day decide to give Jesus the permission to choose us before the foundation of the world and save us not according to our will or pleasure, but our Sovereign God, who made everything for His pleasure, according to His will, all for His glory.

rather;

"When the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord; and as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed." Acts 13:48

Jacob He loved, (foreknew), Essau he hated (never knew), before they were born.

11for though the twins were not yet born and had not done anything good or bad, so that (Z)God's purpose according to His choice would stand, not because of works but because of Him who calls,

12it was said to her, "(AA)THE OLDER WILL SERVE THE YOUNGER." 13Just as it is written, "(AB)JACOB I LOVED, BUT ESAU I HATED."

Why would He choose and not us, I don't know the mind of God.
Isaiah 48 tells us He declared things before they happened so one could not say they did it or their idol had done anything, God will not give His glory to another.

You completely missed it there friend:

From the Vines Complete Expository Dictionary of the Bible:
Please note that I have highlighted in red the coorect defintion and application of Foreknowledge in 1 PEter 1:2:

Foreknow, Foreknowledge
A. Verb.
proginosko (G4267), "to know before" (pro, "before," ginosko, "to know"), is used (a) of divine knowledge, concerning (1) Christ, 1Pe_1:20, RV, "foreknown" (KJV, "foreordained"); (2) Israel as God's earthly people, Rom_11:2; (3) believers, Rom_8:29; "the foreknowledge" of God is the basis of His foreordaining counsels; (b) of human knowledge, (1) of persons, Act_26:5; (2) of facts, 2Pe_3:17.
B. Noun.
prognosis (G4268), "a foreknowledge" (akin to A.), is used only of divine "foreknowledge," Act_2:23; 1Pe_1:2.
"Foreknowledge" is one aspect of omniscience; it is implied in God's warnings, promises and predictions. See Act_15:18. God's "foreknowledge" involves His electing grace, but this does not preclude human will. He "foreknows" the exercise of faith which brings salvation. The apostle Paul stresses especially the actual purposes of God rather than the ground of the purposes, see, e.g., Gal_1:16; Eph_1:5, Eph_1:11. The divine counsels will ever be unthwartable. Cf. FORESHEW.

Only to say what I feel, I feel that Jesus and the LORD must love us all becaue a sinner is moved upon to be saved, right? So if a sinner can feel the love of GOD then wouldn't that be saying that HE loves us all. And Jesus died for all of our sins, so that we CAN be saved.. Just what I feel.
