More Than 10 Commandments?

More Than 10 Commandments?

I wonder, are the 10 Commandments . . . well, why are they called the 10 Commandments? Did someone just start calling them that, or what? Someone said there were more than the ten. If so, has anyone listed all of them? Like the one, "Submit yourselves to God." If that's a command, then is it as important as the ten commandments? And, of course all the original commandments that Moses brought down from the mountain are still good for today, but what happened to all the rest, if there are more? Are they just scattered about the New Testiment?

Has anyone ever listed all the Commandments before? Can we start on this thread?

actually they are called the ten commandments by Moses in Deuteronomy.

It's simple sis, if you love God you will submit to Him.
if you fear Him you will submit to Him.

it's all part of Jesus's first commandment, it covers many many situations and commandments.

Wow, Rams! This is in the Torah? Do you think the same ones are in the Holy Bible? I'll look at the site. But, I don't think we have to follow all these to get into Heaven. Because it would be impossible to keep them all. Isn't that why Christ came? So we would have the Law in our hearts?

So Sweetie Do you want to follow hundreds of laws that no man could do to my knowledge? Or do you want to follow these TWO?

Matthew 22:37-40 (King James Version)

37Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38This is the first and great commandment.
39And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

As verse 40 says. All the other laws and the prophets hinge on these two. Follow these two, and all the others are taken care of:):)

lol sis

the Torah is only the first 5 books of the Old Testament of Moses which include all the laws which the LORD gave to Moses.
Torah is in any Bible that includes the OT =)

it's not something extra!
although some Jews have extra teachings, they're called the oral rabbinic traditional laws; which are an abomination before God and Paul talks of them a few times that Jews should not follow that, because even Paul used to follow them when he was a pharisee.
it's like the extra oral traditions which christians have that are also an abomination before God.
oral traditions are usually against the word that is written in Scripture.

and Cho is 100 % right Bonnie, these two commandments are enough for this last generation (since Jesus until the end)

Thanks you all .... Very good study . I love the web site Rams and you have so much insight into the Jewish laws and ways and I am now searching into them . But you living in Lebanon have so much more .

I am finding this all so fascinating .

We are also studying the Penateuch every Wed night and I am learning so much more that whenI read the OT and before seemed to focus only on the NT but now understand how it is linked to the New . Praise God .

Yes all the old laws are good to know and understand why they were in those days but we do not live by laws now as Deni pointed out. We live by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and He alone is our hope of salvation .

Actually Rams .... when we were in Massada .... we met an archeoligist who has found the Torah in a cave and it is under lock and key and he took us there .... Amazing what they are uncovering in Israel.

But, I don't think we have to follow all these to get into Heaven. Because it would be impossible to keep them all.

You're spot on :) we don't have to keep all,we only have to ABIDE IN HIM :)

Ephesians 2:7-9 (English Standard Version)

7so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Praise God He sent His Son Jesus to save us by His finished work on the cross as the Holy Law of God shows us how we utterly fail as we 'miss the mark' and 'fall so utterly short' of loving God with all of our heart, soul, and mind, as well as loving our neighbor as ourself. Thank God that while we are not perfect, the sacrafice of His perfect Son was and is, for there is no one righteous, no not one, and we have all fallen short.

in my opinion the Law is great. it goes into detail of to the 2 commandments of Jesus.
but we are not to justify our righteousness and salvation by the 613 laws. that is through Christ only.
people do away with the law ignorantly but don't realize that they're actually great and offer much advice and wisdom and ways to help the poor and live peacefully with our neighbors and also health-wise.
I'm not talking about the sacrifice laws because Jesus is the sacrifice now.

The law is perfect, and The Two Greatest Commandments sums up the law and the prophets, but there is no salvation apart from Christ, Galatians 3, Romans 3 :10-31

Oh! OK, I knew that verse. But, I will still look at Ram's site. And, Rams, who is in your group pic Avitar? Which one are you?

And, that was good too, little sis, about just abiding in Him. Thanx, Bonnie

yeah the pharisees made the Laws unbearable. Jesus showed that it doesn't have to be hard.

I am the one on the right Bonnie. well there's a girl on the far right, and then me.

Cool, Rams! Have you told yet who the rest of the crowd is, I mean like if they are from a church group, or from the university? Don't mean to bug you about it, just have an enquiring mind.

don't worry I love talking about these things.
actually the girl on the right is the one who preached to me and brought me to Christ a year and a half ago. (although the pic is from August)
We were at church a few months ago and the other people are brothers and sisters in the Lord and one of them came from Lebanon and is traveling to preach (usa, canada) and has a wonderful voice (us lebanese we like to make a party kind of with food and singing (lots of food :D))
but this one was mainly fellowship and we all sang also.

Rams is absolutely right. There is endless wisdom in the Law. You can spend eons learning and never reach the total knowledge there. Its the blessing that we don't have to live by them though hey?:)

One who lives to please God by the law cannot partake of His grace.
