Jesus Christ was strongly against racial hatred and sectarianism

A brother of ours wrote this on a facebook group:

~~~
Peace and blessings everyone,
Matthew 7:21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven”.
Jesus Christ adds many are called, but few are chosen. In fact three chapters are dedicated just to the question of hypocrisy. There is the parable of the wicked servant, who loses patience for the return of his Master, then starts to eat and drink with drunkards (symbolizing false doctrines, false teachers, teachings of demons) and starts to beat his fellow servants (symbolizing waging wars and persecution against fellow Christians and Jews) The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him (the day for the return of the Messiah is unknown) and at an hour he is not aware of. He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth (thrown into Hell?).
If the New Testament is based on making peace even with your enemies, blessing those who curse you and pray for those who mistreat you, then how does that leave room for hate-mongers and bigots? Luke 6:28 Romans 12:14
It goes even further by explicitly saying that if one wanted to get into the Kingdom of Heaven and inherit eternal life, you have to overcome your racial hatred and prejudice. Hashem Elohim has no place in the Kingdom of heaven for those who wish to be adopted as His sons, for those who hate-mongers, bigots or promote violence and division.
Luke 10 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus Christ. "Teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?" What is written in the Law?" he replied. "How do you read it?" He answered: "'Love the Lord your G-d with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind' and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'
Jesus Christ goes on to provide a parable in which a good Samaritan comes along and helps the victim. Jesus Christ then asks the expert in the law as to who was the neighbor. The expert in the law says that the good Samaritan was the neighbor.
Many Christians only have a shallow understanding of this parable in that it appears to be just a good deed of one person to another, but miss the subtlety of the use of the Samaritan in the parable. In fact I have never heard this parable preached or explained in a Christian church!!! Why, because it is so hard to accept and even harder to obey - which says as much as the state of affairs and morality of those who are supposed to be guiding us! If people had to apply this parable in the world today, all wars will stop.
Basically this parable is a statement against racial hatred and sectarianism. In the 1st century, the Jews hated the Samaritans, and the Samaritans hated the Jews! A Jew could not go thru the towns inhabited by the Samarians, and the Samarians could not go thru towns inhabited by Jews without concerns for their safety. The Jews also considered the Samaritans to be mixed-blood, calling them “half-breeds” so there was clear racial prejudice.
They even refused to talk to each other or have any dealings with each other as is demonstrated in John 4:9 The Samaritan woman said to him, "You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?" (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans).
The religion of the Samaritans is very similar to Judaism. They recognize the Pentateuch (5 Books of Moses) as the written Word of God, yet they reject the other books of the Old Testament. They practice circumcision, and observe the Sabbath and festivals. The most notable difference between the beliefs of the Jews and the Samaritans is concerning the place of the worship of God for the Jews. The Jews believe that in Jerusalem God is to be worshipped, the dwelling place of God on earth is Mount Zion. But for the Samaritans it is the sacred Mount Gerazim, praised with many names (John 4:20).
For Jesus Christ to say 'Love your neighbor as yourself’ and then use the example of the good Samaritan is a radical message and an outright damnation of racial bigotry and sectarianism! It is interesting to note, that the Samaritan, also rejects the prejudices of his own community by helping the Jewish victim.
Note also, that Jesus Christ, although preaching against sectarianism, the sectarianism DOES NOT include accommodating those communities who worship foreign gods or idolatry. Jesus Christ DID NOT use a Canaanite or pagan Roman soldier as an example, who also inhabited the area.
The apostle Paul rebuked the Corinthians for having a sectarian spirit: “Each one of you is saying, ‘I am of Paul,’ and ‘I of Apollos,’ and ‘I of Cephas,’ and ‘I of Christ.’ Has Christ been divided? Paul was not crucified for you, was he? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?” (1 Cor. 1:12-13). Later in the epistle he added, “For when one says, ‘I am of Paul,’ and another, ‘I am of Apollos,’ are you not mere men? What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, even as the Lord gave opportunity to each one” (3:4-5).
Deliberately causing schisms in the body of Christ is a demonic sin—so much so that divisive people are not to be tolerated in the church.
In this parable of the Good Samaritan, the Jews could be seen in place of the Samaritan in that Jews only accepted the Tanakh, but reject the New Testament and the Christians can be seen in place of the Jews. The backdrop of the bitter Catholic vs Protestant conflict of the early centuries should also be taken into context in this parable as a violation of the Will of G-d. Those European nations that instigated wars against other nations in the cause of the wild greedy beasts of nationalism and colonialism are also doomed on Judgement Day. In fact I would caution everybody to be wary of the “-isms”.
Does Jesus Christ’s parable imply that one can go and persecute those of different ethnic groups who are all the servants of G-d? Does Jesus Christ parable imply that because one sect worships G-d differently, with different traditions or interpretations on how one worships G-d, you can go around persecuting that sect as “heretics”? Certainly not - in fact he says that if you want to enter the Kingdom of Heaven and inherit eternal life, you had better start treating the your brothers and sisters who are servants of G-d of various ethnic groups and other nations with love, compassion and respect!
In a brilliant twist in this parable, the parable also teaches that the victim of racial or sectarian persecution, like the good Samaritan, who can forgive, overcome all the bitterness of persecution, and still offer mercy, compassion and kindness to someone from the community who persecuted him is fit for the Kingdom of Heaven, and will be rewarded with eternal life!
(p.s. there is no copyright on this - I am placing it in public domain - give it to whoever you like, copy it paste, forward it to your friends etc.)
Well then he should come to my church as this is preached . Amen Rams ..... very good message indeed .
I'm not sure if it's because I'm still half-asleep or what, but I really didn't understand the post? I'm not trying to be mean here, I just didn't "get it". :D
pray on it sis, there are parables in the Bible that you Must understand.
these will only come to you through understanding His word.
ok so from my understanding of the message here, the samaritans and the jews were like catholics and protestants
both have the same faith yet each worship in a different way. some have more writings (scriptures) some have less.
Jesus used a samaritan as a "neighbor" to show that it doesn't matter how they worship but that the samaritan is their brother/sister either way (to the Jews).
Hence why Jesus said at the end of the parable while talking to the samaritan woman, the Father wants worship in spirit and in truth, doesn't matter if it's in Jerusalem or on a mountain or in your house or in a building.
we must be of one mind, of Christ, without sects or without saying "I am catholic, I am protestant, I am lutheran, I am maronite, etc.." to watch out of the "-ism", different teachings and etc, but to focus on Christ.
what the Father wants is worship in spirit and truth. as long as we all agree on Jesus Christ then we should love our bothers and sisters and help them, the rest that they do wrong is up to God to rebuke them if they do not listen to us. They still remain our brothers and sisters no matter what our ancestors quarrelled about.
hope that help little sis.
[FONT=&quot]Seems the person is mixing a few things into this that both take away from the Message of Jesus and try to foster ecumenicalism with false teaching.
The person wrote:
Why did he include this paragraph? The Message of Jesus is to Love ones enemies Not simply to love people of other similar religions.
Also He seems to be saying that removing oneself from false teaching is the same as taking up arms and going to war against people who are promoting false teachings.
We are told to have nothing to do with false teachings and that means not having fellowship with those who twist the Gospel message. This does not mean we then turn around and seek to kill or even hate those who are deceived and are deceiving. Jesus told us to love our enemies. But love does not extend to acknowledging their twisting of scripture as being good, doing that is a betrayal of Jesus.
Division within the body over trivial matters is never justified but at the same time unity with those who promote seriously wrong dogmas calls for division.
Wisdom is when one has understanding as to what is trivial and what is serious.
This parable teaches us that Jesus Christ crossed all the racial bariers to show love to everyone . And that should be our lesson as well.
We as Christians need to wake up, now more than ever. Things are going to get worse for us and the True Church better tightly stick together, get more active, get more familliar with eachother. The body needs eachother. 2 Corinthians 6:17
2 Corinthians 11:14 Satan disguises himself as an angel of light, and so that he may deceive as many as possible he tries to hide his twisted doctrine and gospels in the same crowd with the real one-and tries to keep everbody holding hands as long as possible, under the illusion of unity. As Christ said, what does darkness have to do with light? 2 Corinthians 6:15 The longer the lie is allowed to stay under the same roof as the truth, the more damage is done and the longer we tolerate false teaching, which as in Revelations 2-3, count how many times Christ mentions doctrine and teaching, Jesus makes it clear He is against tolerating false teaching that leads His people astray. Woe to the one through whom stumbling blocks come. Matthew 18:7 How many churches in the world claim to bow surrendered to Christ in this life, while they bow down to idols and yet praise the name of our Lord in the same house? Ezekiel 8 When we have core differences that cross the line contained in the Ten Commandments, we cannot simply sit back and silently ignore it. There is gross idolitry in our largest churchs. And in our churches is a different gospel of health and wellness. We have the emerging doctrine of demons drawing in the masses and deceiving them, as was written that there would be. Christ came in this world for salvation and he is coming again for judgement. We do not have a more tolerant Jesus on the way. If we love anything more than Him, we are not worthy of Him. Matthew 10 Like Adstar said small differencs should be worked out or made provision for, core doctrinal biblical truths must always be set as truth, while anything contrary to the word of God as false. When the Word of God strips away everything false in this world that's not the word of God, then all you have left is the Word of God. I think we're on the way to hearing the Word of God less and less, and lies more and more.
God bless all in Christ
It is one of the most famous parables that I have heard in various churches I have been to. It is often spoken about and yes...its against racial hate etc...You say most christians...you must mean most Christians that you have meet...I know probably as many that have way more than a basic understanding of this..oh and I mean in real life not just online.
Wars btw are not based on racial hate.
Adstar,
I don't call another sect in Christianity my enemy.
Not at all.
The message of our brother is trying to say that we should not call them our enemies, in fact Jesus said "whoever is not against us, is for us." (Mark 9) the rest God will judge and will have revenge, "Vengeance is mine" says the LORD.
Who do I call my enemy? satan only, I really have no enemies currently, not even unbelievers. and I don't wish to have any.
the message our brother posted has nothing wrong so far as I have understood.
It actually makes sense. It actually opened my eyes about Christian sects.
If you read the Torah you'll notice how much God is against pagans and idol worshipers. Jews either hated them or became like them.
Jesus used a Samaritan to show that even if they worship in another way, they are not pagans, they are our neighbors.
Notice how Jesus uses a priest first, then a Levite, and finally a Samaritan.
Thanks Dusty.
we are the light and the salt of the earth, we are to warn them about their idolatry. I have warned a few and I wish to continue.
let us all keep doing it Least.
Amen Rams . That could be another topic for a new thread.
Light .... We should be like a light in a house that breaks through the darkness .
The world is in spiritual darkness and we are the light to the world ---- Let's let our light shine for Jesus .
We must live in a way that people want to see our Godly works and want to know about our Father who lives in Heaven.
Salt--- Salt flavours our food and if the salt has lost is saltiness then the food will not taste good .
Likewise if we as Christians have lost our zeal for Jesus then we too have lost our " Saltiness "
We need to renew our minds daily so we don't loose our saltiness
Salt .....
In Jesus day , salt was a valuable commodity used as payment for trading .
We as Christians can add flavour as well as allow other things to come into our lives . But if we allow that then we are watered down ,diluting our effectiveness. Just as salt when watered down.
We as Christians season peoples lives that are bland .
Salt adds flavour as well as prevents decay and it also purifys and cleanses.
Colossians 4:6 .....Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
Adstar,
I don't call another sect in Christianity my enemy.
Not at all.
I call any religion, sect or organization that either teaches against the Gospel message or twists the message an enemy of the Gospel.
The message of our brother is trying to say that we should not call them our enemies,
Can you not make a distinction between a person and the beliefs they hold? Why is it so hard for people to see a strong stance against false teachings as not being a strong stance against the one who holds it?
I will say it again: Those who teach false doctrines that are against the true Message of the Gospel are in effect working as enemies of the Gospel irrespective of them knowing it or not.
in fact Jesus said "whoever is not against us, is for us."
And many of these teachings are against the Gospel.
(Mark 9) the rest God will judge and will have revenge, "Vengeance is mine" says the LORD.
Agreed.
Who do I call my enemy? satan only, I really have no enemies currently, not even unbelievers. and I don't wish to have any.
Agreed. But again, the line between people and teachings are blurred so as to imply that anyone who stands against a teaching is automatically a hate monger who is standing against people and therefore anyone who stands up to lies and deception is not a true Christian. That propaganda is false.
Jesus used a Samaritan to show that even if they worship in another way, they are not pagans, they are our neighbors.
Notice how Jesus uses a priest first, then a Levite, and finally a Samaritan.
Jesus used the Samaritan because they where hated by the Jews. The Jews where more offended by the Samaritans then they where offended by the Romans.
My Neighbour is all mankind. Christian or not. But Pagans are still pagans they are my pagan neighbours. Just as false Christians are my Neighbours. I love them and hope for their Redemption but i will stand for the truth and against deception.
